I agree with empire Colm Meaney and Imelda staunton do provide some great acting but the film turned out too miserable at times and the comedy wasn't exactly hilarious.

i can not agree with the two star rating.
although i felt it was missing something in the beginning, and it may have been a little slow to start off with, it was still a fantastic film. very funny and yet tragic in a was that some films fail to do.
i did feel that it overused pop songs, but this didn't spoil the rest of the film.
i would recomend seeing it.

So disappointed!! There was so much in this film that didn;t add up:

  • Gemma Arteton's character wouldn't touch Mackenzie Crook with a barge pole - the idea of them together is laughable - an incredibly beautiful girl and a scrawny rat-faced geek - don't think so!!!!
  • The eventual death of the 'vagrant' amounts to murder as he stopped and then deliberately ran the guy over - he then talks about it in a book dedicated to the guy he killed - as if he wouldn't be found out!!! Somebody on a passing train or on CCTV would have noticed him deliberately running somebody over!
  • The guy from the Nationwide advert just played the same character in this film as he does in the commercials and it really grated on me!
  • If you hadn't seen your daughter in 8 years would you really go into her bedroom when she's in bed as Tommy does and whip back the covers like that?  It just wouldn't happen!

Grrr - its not very often I completely dislike a film but this just annoyed me!  Only good bits was the touching moments between Tommy and his wife.

An average black comedy, this Brit movie engages most in its more reflective moments, focusing on characters’ feelings of guilt, anger, sadness and regret. There are some good gags (the highlight being a botched burglary), while all four leads lend heft and credibility to their roles.
