The Last Of The Mohicans for me as well, overall I'm not that impressed with the rest of his work.

Last of the Mohicans is not just the best Michael Mann film, its the best film of the Twentieth century. *runs and hides*

Heat for me, though Collateral comes in at a close second.  Manhunter and Miami Vice were awful, the former being pretty distant from the source material.

The Last of the Mohicans. Beautiful, rousing, brutal, rich, compelling piece of work. Flawless direction, scoring, writing, acting and cinematography. One of my all-time favorites. Collateral is very good as well, with an impressive performance from Cruise, Heat is also a favorite of mine.

I like Heat, Last of the Mohicans is good, but can anyone tell my why the hell Collateral is a good film? No, seriously, I just can't watch that film and think "great". It's just an ordinary thriller to me. And don't get me started on Miami Vice. It was like a TV episode. For a really crappy TV show.

Now, I don't want to be the 'bitchy' one here, but I just never got why Michael Mann is considered great. I can see why some think he is good, which I agree he is, but there really is nothing to grab on to for me.

The Insider. Epical, thrilling and fantastic cinematograpy + soundtrack and Superieur acting from Russel Crowe and Al Pacino. Thriller + social drama + political drama= three in one. Three masterpieces for the price of one.

This must be the most complexed film of Michael Mann ever.

A really shame he didn't win any of his Oscar Nominations.

You should all be ashamed of yourselfs!   No Manhunter??  It's one of the scariest and intruiging horror/serial Killer Flicks ever.  Some fine Films, but Manhunter is his greatest and Brian Cox is the true Hannibel

One of my favourite directors off all time. I love the trademark he has of filming at night and the way he makes it all look so cool. Miami Vice was a load of shit though, a real let down.

Some great films in that list but my favourite is Collateral. I can watch it again and again and never get bored.

MANHUNTER but because it's not there it has to be the classic crime/thriller;
                           HEAT.
Also loved THE KEEP a underated Micheal Mann horror/chiller.

Last of the Mohicans without a doubt. One of the best films of the 90's.

I Like The Insider & Collateral as well. Miami Vice was a load of wank though.

Manhunter probably got added in?
I voted for Heat although it and Last of the Mohicans are kind of interchangeable as to which is best.
Really want to see Manhunter now that its getting some good mentions...

I;m a big fan of most of his films to be honest. Besides the obvious ones like Last Of The Mohicans and Manhunter I really liked Miami Vice even though its not the most popular of films. However besides these three Heat gets my vote his best film by far!

Couldn't agree more - Manhunter is my favourite Michael Mann film and Brian Cox is far superior to Anthony Hopkins in the role of Lecter; far more chilling.

1.Heat

3.Collateral
4.Miami Vice
I've only seen these for and Miami Vice was pretty crap. Heat is one of the best movies of the 1990's if not the 1900's.
