The Dark Knight is about 6478 times better, but Empire are right - this film set up enough stuff for the sequel to be a hell of a lot better.

The first star is the effects, the second star is Downey Jr's watchable but not particularly good performance. I just don't get the furore

Just not as good as people claim, Looked good, FX were good. Downey Jr was charismatic (We knew that already) and suits the genre well.

Story was boring. It was too long.

Just seen this and quite agree with you. It was pretty dull really but I have high hopes for the sequel.

I watched Iron Man and Hulk at the cinema - at the time I thought Iron Man was superior, but having watched them both on DVD, the Hulk came out top 2nd time round. Dunno why.

this film was fast, fun ,exciting, well written, well acted, great special effects and if the dark knight hadnt have come along would be the best superhero film of the year but is without a doubt one of the best superhero films ever made. Great Fun!

So, it doesn't really do anything new within superhero genre, but it delivers in slick and fun fashion. Plus Downey Jr is amazing and has into his character right from the start.

This is a brilliant film!! The actors are perfect, the action is fantastic and Jon Favreau proved that you really can make a superhero film, that stays well and close to the comics, become one of the best superhero films of all time. Just in one word.... AWESOME!!!!!!

I admit the film is good. But that's all iti is. All this talk about how it's the perfect Blockbuster movie is gorilla balls! Robert Downey Jr is the best part of this film. But other than him. Evey other aspect of the film is just average. It is not a great movie!

Is a stupid review as they give the movie praise all the time when discussing the sequel. Also a very rewatchable film...

Marvels second best film (after "X-Men 2") and a really entertaining comic book film.

The fourth star is for Robert Downey Jr. as "Tony Stark". What a brilliant performance and I cannot wait for the sequel.

How Empire could give this film 3 stars is beyond me. Great story, great action and great acting - what more can you ask for? Oh yesh - Robert Downey junior - but he's there too so watch this movie

Iron Man has pretty to look at with a good round of casting especially Robert Downey Jr that fits the lead role perfectly and Jeff Bridges was a unreconiseable villian with a bald head. But it's nothing special, I wasn't totally overblown with it and the action scenes are good but not really jaw-dropping. I felt the ending was done a little too quick, the relationship between Downey and Paltrow dosen't fully gel and the discovery of the villian was very preidctable. I'm sure I'm not the only one who wasn't overblown about this movie, it's enterainting but no way it's a perfect blockbuster movie.

The title just about says it all. Everything one would expect from a comic book film is to be found here. The writing is rather exceptional and very fitting to this type of film, almost to the point that you will forget you are watching a Marvel movie. Robert Downey Jr. is simply a revelation: who knew a character such as Tony Stark could be given so much depth and charisma?
The rest of the cast is, of course, satisfying, especially Jeff Bridges. Jon Favreau manages to balance the film's action scenes and actual substance, where its true integrity is to be found.
Very entertaining and satisfactory.

As preparation to viewing part 2 next week I re-watched part 1:

Iron Man
After this second viewing the movie still stands up. It`s still a good mix of humour, great action and excellent acting performances by Robert Downey Jr. (with this being his highpoint in his remarkable comeback over the last few years) and especially Jeff Bridges (who actually steals the show).
A lovely no-brainer. Hopefully part 2 will be as much fun as this part.
8,0/10
