I met a 20 year old who pretended not to know who Oasis are. Pissed me right off.

Smug, unfunny, overhyped tosh. Can someone tell me why this is supposed to be good?

Quirky and independent = masterpiece

I purchased this one due to the praise being heaped upon it in this forum.  It didn't raise a smile and seemed to be too self conciously attempting to be quirky.  I have since loaned it to 9 people with the proviso that if they like it they cn keep it and yet it still sits upon my shelf.  I even tried to sell it on eby starting at 99p and still it sits upon my shelf.  It seems to be one of those films that has a lot of praise but very few people actually like it.

I like it.

I like Lost In Translation as well, but I can't figure out if I'm saying that to look cool and be pretentious, or whether I actually do like it.

....I think its because I liked it though.

I hold a lot of hatred for Lost In Translation. It bored and annoyed me in equal portions.

Me too - terrible film. Maybe I just have something against quirky, offbeat indies...

Anyone who doesn't like Lost In Translation is just saying that to look cool. Or is pretentious.

Or maybe they just didn't like it.

I didn't like it.

I'm not pretentious! I liked Daredevil!!
If you'll excuse, I'm going to watch a 25 hour Romanian black and white film with subtitles. I bid you a fond adieu...

What? I couldn't hear that over the two Serbian experimental films I'm watching simultaneously.

About the only film I'd label 'overhyped' in terms of praise launched at it which I cannot understand is Casablanca.  It's not a bad film, it's just that it is... average.  But each to their own.

I'm a little shocked to see people throwing hate at films because they won Oscars over other films, don't hate the films - hate the Academy that voted!  Titanic is a great film, so is Starship Troopers, but we all know that the Academy rewards great additions to their industry.  I don't hate The Golden Compass for beating Transformers to best effects for example.  I just don't count the Oscars as being worthy awards any more.  Now that is something film-related that is overhyped!

Keep it down in here, I'm trying to watch a documentary on Eisentein's grandmother in the original rural Slavic.

Oh my God, as do I! Its a terrible, terrible film. Nothing can change my mind about this. I'd rather gouge my eyes out than watch it again, it was awful.

I'm proud that this topic has so many replies considering I only started it this afternoon. A lot of it is just debating over whether James Cameron is shit or not though. :P

Thatl teach you for BUYING a film youve never seen before.Ever heard of renting?I rented Little miss sunshine and enjoyed it.Wasnt worth the hype but it was an enjoyable little film. The strip tease at the end with the little girl i didnt find funny at all though.I thought it was very creepy for the filmakers to have that underage girl do that.

It was going for 4 and to be honest renting it would have cost nearly as much.  That being said I now have a Lovefilm account so can avoid this sort of thing in the future.

Those Lord of The Rings movies from a few years back.

How did I know you'd pick these

Not sure what mine is, probably either The Godfather or The Shining. I don't detest the Godfather but it does get more praise overall, wheeras I loathe The Shining but it doesn't tend to figure quite so much when it comes to critics. It all balances out probably.

Or maybe Nosferatu or Metropolis. Gah, now I'm stuck!

I don't think I've seen mention of King Kong (2005) yet!  Awful awful overhyped rubbish.  I honestly believe that if it hadn't been a Peter Jackson movie it would have been absolutely slammed but oh no you can't say anything against Peter Jackson he made LOTR (Which in themselves are good but extremely overrated!)

I caught a little of King Kong (2005) on TV a while back and I'm stunned that it won the Oscars for best visual effects - over Revenge of The Sith??

Juno(sigh), my review for that film is HERE.

As for King Kong, that film was seriously over-hyped(Empire was guilty of some serious P. Jackson love there). The CGI was poorer than those in Jurassic Park from more than ten years earlier as the King Kong creatures looked like bad in-game cut scenes.

Defo Juno of the recent ones. It was fine but Fox's marketing department did a VERY effective job of selling it.

Funky Shit is the closing track over the credits, not really a part of the film, but still, it fits well.

I've seen Event Horizon a long time back, and you know I like it, BUT WHAT THE FUCK WAS FUNKY SHIT DOING AT THE END?

Also, Kill Bill is a total rip-off of Bride Wore Black. Tarantino just can't resist ripping off other people's work.
