 Dunston Checks In. It was still good, but the hype that sprung up when Ken Kwapis signed on overshadowed it's (ample) potential.

I hate that film and a friend bought me the lousy DVD for that piece of boring crap. I never knew looking bored makes you a good actor(yes, Bill Murray).

Quirky and independent = masterpiece


I purchased this one due to the praise being heaped upon it in this forum.  It didn't raise a smile and seemed to be too self conciously attempting to be quirky.  I have since loaned it to 9 people with the proviso that if they like it they cn keep it and yet it still sits upon my shelf.  I even tried to sell it on eby starting at 99p and still it sits upon my shelf.  It seems to be one of those films that has a lot of praise but very few people actually like it.

I haven't watched The Terminator in ages, so I couldn't say with any confidence. I watched Aliens about two months ago but didn't get all the way through it. Just not my type of film really, nothing to engage me. Lance Henriksen is very good in both of them. I'll say that.

I agree that ST did have better CGI than Titanic but Titanic's practical effects were far grander and I  can understand why it won.

Yes it did. The only chance it had of Oscar was in special effects. Well, the uconventional script, the intentionally cheesy dialouge and the plot never had a chance of winning any other Oscars. ST is too sophisticated for them. Anyway, I think the the the destruction of the Roger Young(I think that was called, Denise Richards' spaceship) is as breathtaking as the ship sinking in Titanic(which yes, I agree it was a great moment).

That scene was awesome - and a miniature effect from what I remember.

It's funny how Verhoeven sci-fi films have such great special effects because it's clearly not his field.

Dialogue? It's a James Cameron film. Regardless, the Xenomorph design was good. It's H. R. Giger, so it would be. Can't remember Weaver's performance, but she's usually good. Couldn't care less about the effects.

The problem with Event Horizon is the premise is so good, they could have a lot more with it.

Also, the use of a Prodigy song at the end ruins what little worked.
