It's called agreeing with someone. Lighten up dude.

Another overhyped movie was Spiderman. After the first one, I haven't bothered to watch any more because I thought the first one was just boring and sort of a copy of Superman. I didn't buy Tobey Maguire as a Superhero, yes he's supposed to be in nerd, which is fine but he's too short and little; considering Jake Gyllenhaal, and Leonardo DiCaprio turned down the part (I would have bought either as a Superhero) All this stuff is just different people's opinion's about anyway, agree, disagree, whatever, blow a gasket if you want to, I don't care.

deadly thread didn't read all of it so excuse me if my overhyped films have already been mentioned

1. the stars wars films i think are quite bad, harrison ford is class in them and i get that they were groundbreaking for the time but after that its a savage idea done badly. as for the prequels . . . ahem

2. how in god's name did empire give superman returns 5 stars, like its not a terrible film but nowhere near a classic. why didn't singer just do his own superman movie look what he did with x-men

SPOILER

3. 12 monkeys, i do not get it! he goes back in time to prevent the spreading of a fatal disease and ends up causing it now maybe i misunderstood it or missed something but i just see it as being so pointless and i can't understand when people say it's excellent

I can at least agree with the idea of TDK being crap (I don't agree, I just think it's average), but  bashing Ledger in it in the other thread is just stupid...
I'd nominate 2001 for the most overhyped film ever...

If anything though Ledger is the most fun to watch in The Dark Knight by far, I will say there were parts that were a little too hammy, and a little too James Bondy for my taste. Anyone who bashes Heath Ledger now i(especially for the Joker) is just well, heartless to say the least.

Funny, I thought the Craig films were too batman-y
And TDK is average apart from Caine, Freeman and of course Ledger. Even Oldman wasn't that special.

Why, because he died under tragic circumstances?  That's a bit daft.

I actually found Ledger's Joker to be quite distracting, to be honest.

What about the hundreds of other great actors that have died over the years?

It was a very big box office success...

I thought it opened with a very mixed response by the critics and was a complete bomb in the Box Ofiice.

Mixed critical response but according to Wiki an astonishing 3rd at the box office that year.

Often 'bombs' are named in the context of what the production is claimed to have cost though. And those are very dodgy calcs

People are entitled to their opinions on it. And some of us might struggle to slot it into a top 25 for the year

Slumdog Millionaire! Everywhere you hear that it's some magical film, but it's just not! I think it's OK.

I say that bashing Ledger is heartless because he just won an Oscar for his performance and he has not been dead very long. If you wanna think that's DAFT then go right ahead. Of course Ledger is distracting in TDK, but it's a GOOD distraction, he keeps the movie from being serious and gives it a shot in the arm. I think Christian Bale did a great job, and I love the fact that he GROWLS at Batman, he's supposed to be angry and have an attitude. The only distracting thing was Maggie Gyllenhaal, not in a good way, still better than Katie Holmes but no less annoying.

I agree Slumdog was way overhyped, I thought it was good but not great and not better than the other best picture contender The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, or Frost Nixon. There's no way that Slumdog had better sound editing than Iron Man, or editing than Benjamin Button. I think it won way too many awards.

In recent memory it would have to be Cloverfield for me. People I knew were trumping it as some messianic film experience. I left the Cinema thinking it was alright, but hardly brilliant.

The correct answers are:

The Blair Witch Project

&

Donnie Darko.

Oh yes, I remember the hype on that one, it was as big as the one of the Star Wars prequels or The Da Vinci Code.

Sarcasm I take it. Hype doesn't come from only blockbusters. Jesse James seemed to get 5 stars across the board from everyone. Feck knows why.
