ORIGINAL: Blunderbuss Well that had to be the straightest episode of Chuck so far...yes, it had some lighter moments ("Ivan Drago?...seriously?", Chuck hanging from the hotel sans-towel, Jeffster vs Casey) but overall the tone of the ep definitely veered towards the serious. Not that this was a bad thing. The second half of the ep, as Chuck discovered that his exam wasn't over and there was a final test to complete, was very well done. I especially liked the riff on Besson's 'La Femme Nikita', with Sarah in the 'Bob' role taking Chuck out to a fancy restaurant for dinner and then announcing that he had to kill someone. The fight in the gents was also well done. After last week's fight between Chuck and the Ring agents the close up combat sequences are definitely getting meaner. I do however, hope that normal, lighter Chuck is restored next week. I don't mind the odd episode like this one that plays around with expectations but a key part of the show's appeal is the mixture of slacker comedy and espionage stuff. I hope they don't forget that... Oh and does anyone else think that Sarah's red test will have some future significance in the show? Why else would they shoot such an elaborate flashback if it wasn't going to be a big deal later on...? Yes, this was the most 'serious' ep of the season like you said. It gets better soon, don't worry. The angst is almost over. Next 2 eps are great. Ep 13 is Epic.
