Anyone heard when his next one will hit the shelves? April. It's not on Amazon yet.

On another note, I am re-reading Going Postal at the moment, and it really is a great piece of work. I can imagine it as a film, will all that Pythonesque humour.

Controversial! Rincewind is usually at the bottom of the list for most people. Including me. Don't get me wrong, I love the Rincewind books, they're just at the lower end on the scale of brilliance. In my opinion, Sourcery and Interesting Times are the best Rincewind books. I especially like Sourcery because it involves a very rare incident or two of near-heroism for Rincewind.

The next book is indeed Making Money. I want it now though, damn it!

Rincewind's last scene in Sourcery is one of my favourites from the whole series. He works best as the brave coward...

How many years has it been since a Rincewind book (not counting The Last Hero)??

The Last Continent (1998) was the last Rincewind book before The Last Hero (2001). Unless you include the Science of Discworld Novels (1999, 2002, 2005).

For anyone who doesn't get the Discworld News Letter:-

Welcome to issue 119. I am happy to announce we have managed to
secure an exclusive first look at the cover and pack design for the
Special Edition of the Hogfather DVD due for release on 9th April.
Please bear in mind that this is still a "work in progress" and is
subject to change.

I have to say that I think it looks great and is indicative of the
huge attention to detail that has been put into Hogfather project as
a whole. I now can't wait for April to get my hands on a copy.

spoke with Terry Pratchett this afternoon and he filled me in with
his latest news;

Terry Pratchett's Making Money

"The news here is that Making Money has gone off to the publisher;
currently the various works in progress are The Folklore of
Discworld, which I am working on with Jacqueline Simpson
(co-author of the Lore of the Land, among many other books on
folklore. Lu-Tse's Yearbook of Enlightenment (the next Discworld
diary) and Nation, a young adult book for next year, which is not
Discworld, and not what people are usually thinking about when
they use the term fantasy. I am about 10,000 words into it already
and actually wrote about 5,000 words of it when I was at the
Australian convention a few weeks ago. Well, if the jetlag means
you are wide awake at three o'clock in the morning, why waste the
time!"

It appears that Terry managed to fulfil his role as Guest of Honour
at the first ever German Discworld convention "Scheibenwelt-Fest"
last weekend (after apparently getting delayed in customs and
missing most of the first day). We are hoping to be able to bring
you a review of the event next month, providing our reviewer didn't
get too drunk and forget to write anything down.

In the meantime a video of one of Terry's speeches from the event

Why thank you. Although, Emma Chambers may be a little too old now but I'm sure Helen Mirren and Dawn French can be aged and act 'old'.

How the watch? I'm not so sure about them...

Carrot? Damien Lewis? Little bit too old perhaps for the early books.

Nobby? Mackenzie Crook?

Not sure about Vimes, Angua, or Sgt Colon.

He could certainly play the grizzled drunk who's lost the will to fight in the early books, would remain to be seen if he could then play the more inspiring, no-nonsence leader of the later ones. I'd give him the chance tho...

I know a lot of people see Vimes as a sort of Clint Eastwood/Dirty Harry.

He's got to be ageing, rugged and worn but also quite lean and handsome.

This is Paul Kidby's Vimes, spot on in my opinion,

I know TP thinks Vimes should look like Pete Postlethwaite...good choice. Possibly a tad more realistic than Clint too. Then again I'd always thought of Vimes as a Marlowe type but I think Humphrey Bogart is an even more unrealistic choice.
I'd hate to see Dawn bloomin' French as Nanny though. How about Miriam Margoyles?
I always thought that the late Ian Richardson was spot on for Vetinari, I always think of his Francis Urquart (sic)? when I think of the Ankh-Morpork patrician. Liam Neeson maybe?
Granny Weatherwax would be hard to cast. I think it would be too obvious a move to go with Maggie Smith or Sheila Hancock et al.

Miriam Margoyles, brilliant. Personally, I'd favour Dawn French though

For me, Maggie Smith seems to be too 'fragile' to play Granny. That's why I thought Helen Mirren could be better. Though, I'm sure she'd do a good job. Second thoughts, she'd be great!

Only joking. I don't think Vimes is supposed to be a 'Dad from the OC' in looks terms. He's a weather beaten old drunk when we meet him for the first time in Guards! Guards! singing in gutter. Something which Pete Postlethwaite could capture perfectly...... erm again, sorry to Pete if he's a regular contributor to the Empire forum.
