Superman III (you all know the bit I mean!)  I got so worked up during that scene that I ended up whacking my head on the floor

The robot scene?! Haha I forgot all about that!

Candyman scared the shit out of me for years. I couldnt look in a mirror for like a week after i watched the film. And my brother, whenever i went downstairs at night, would start shouting Candyman, Candyman and i would scream myself shitless and run upstairs to bed.

I was the same!

I walked in on my sister and her mates watching it. I saw about 3 mins and that was more than enough for me!

Candyman is an overlooked, original horror movie with some really shocking moments. Scared the hell outta me. Virginia Mansen should be in more movies.

I also found the robot scene pretty scary in Superman III.
Poltergeist for a 9 year old me was pant-shittingly scary.

The film that scared me was Jaws.

I was convinced at the age of seven that Jaws would somehow grow legs, come ashore into my house, climb the stairs and bite my feet off while I slept. Never mind going back into the water....

It has to be Friday 13. Did not sleep for the whole night after watching it and i felt so tired the day after that I nearly collapsed in class. My worst nightmare by far.

When I was about 5/6 I saw Batman Returns and I was terrified of Catwoman when she goes nuts, messes up her apartment and there are all those cats around her licking her, I thought they were eating her. Oddly enough I saw Beetlejuice at the same age and was fine.

Anything with vampires. I saw this one where a man had been attacked by three female vampires and hides out in a barn or a church with a hayloft for some reason, put holy water on his neck wounds and when the sun came up he was healed. btw, if anyone knows what that film is please tell me. But I remember some comedy show, I think it was 2.4 Children and they had a character that everyone said was a vampire and I had to sit on the stairs glancing through every now and then I was so scared of them.

Can't remember what else I was scared of, gonna have to think. But I can't see anyone being scared of Labyrinth.

BREAKING GLASS - as in Hazel O'Connor...

and I shall explain!

I was only 10 in 1980 and very innocent.  A friend of mine had told me about a film he'd 'seen' (obviously he hadn't) called Alien where this thing eats its way out of a persons body.  The thought of that terrified me anyway but then one night there was some Awards show / BAFTA thing on telly.  Mum had let me stay up late and on came that scene from Alien.  My enduring memory was of John Hurt lying across the table with his chest pushing outwards and Veronica Cartwright screaming before my mum got to the TV and changed channels (pre remote controls of course).  On the other channel was Hazel O'Connor standing in a Blue lit neon suit, obviously in the film Breaking Glass.  By association I was terrified of Breaking Glass  and Hazel O'Connor for years.

The Howling.
I watched it last night for the first time in years and its still a pretty creepy film, spoilt only by dee wallace turning into a teddy bear at the end and those two shagging by the fire who turn into cartoon wolves.

There's the usual suspects,
Freddy Krugar terrified me, I was maybe 7 when I sneaked a watch, not good! He traumatised me for years, a lot of freakin' nightmares.
Mike Myers, Jason, those guys scared me when I was like 8-10.

Now that big bastard Candyman on the other hand, well he still freaks me out, only the first flick mind the others were shite, the soundtrack didn't/doesn't help, it's fooking terrifying.

Other than that no films released in the last 10 years or so affect me in any way(Fright wise), it's all either Gore porn or Japanese remakes, sure films will make me jump, but none of the modern 'horrors' have had a lasting effect on me.

I know this is really lame but snow white scared the shit out of me as a kid! the bit where the witch takes the potion and turns ugly and scary made me wet myself when i was 5.  the guy who turns the boys into donkeys in pinochio had the same effect so did the witch in sleeping beauty, come to think of it a lot of the classic disney films gave me sleepless nights! i still haven't been able to watch snow white
i also accidently saw a bit of the excorcist when i was 4 or 5, it was the spinning head bit, that seriously fucked me up for a while!
i have to admit i still cant watch a lot of the classic horrors. recently my friend made me watch the ring and couldn't sleep for the whole night! and i haven't been able to watch all of candyman yet and probably never will!

ET.
ET was the most horrible thing in the world. I'm still scared of him...ugh. Then, when I went on holidays, to Florida, aged 5, we used to pass this HUGE moving ET billboard...every day. I cried every day.

The Dark Crystal
Freaked me out as a kid, still is quite daunting.

Return to Oz scared the shit out of me!
I didn't sleep for weeks after I saw that film, especially that bit in Mombi's palace with the room full of heads in jars!

Those wheeler guys freaked me out too......still do come to think of it...

The only good thing about that film was Jack Pumpkinhead, he was so sweet.....and very Tim Burton-esqe

evil bastards.

I'll see you that and raise you, I dreamed Warrington would flood and Jaws would come right into our house and get me.

And yep, I STILL freak out in the ocean! Can't swim alone in the sea - I'm ok if others are with me, 'cos a) they keep my mind off the screaming horror of a potential shark-attack and b) I can swim pretty good, I think Jaws would get them first and be slowed down enough for me to escape.

But in reality you people are fools, blind easily-scared fools, for you don't know horror.

I saw Salem's Lot when I was four.

My Mum recorded it off TV and I pestered her for ages wanting to watch it, until eventually she cracked and said, "Fine, watch it, but don't come crying to me."

And I saw this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eC5HZzjjI9Y

And I know, the effects are bollocks by today's standards, but that film freaked me out enough I had nightmares about that scene for six years and I still live in terror of a face outside my window and I can't watch that scene alone in the house at night.

But then I became obsessed with The Lost Boys and got over my vampire-fear!

And anyone else see The Gate? with a dead man crawling in the fucking walls and an EYE in someone's HAND??? That scared the shit out of me. And the episode of Ghostbusters, the cartoon, where that purple sludge gets on them and Ray gets an eye in his stomach....

John Carpenter's Halloween scared the living daylights out of me the scenes where Myers is blacked out on the otherside of the road outside little Lindsey Wallace house as Tommy looks out his window but it always made me think was Michael looking into Lindsey's house or creeply looking at Tommy's house....or the scene when Jamie Lee Curtis as Laurie Strode backs up into a corner and the shape suddenly appears right behind her that could be the reason I'm sometimes affraid to be home alone incase the boogeyman is hiding in the shadows lol.

I saw a film called Fire in the Sky with my mates when I was younger.

For the most part it's simply about some small town Americans who say their friend was kidnapped by aliens but the town think they killed him.

At one point it has a sustained flashback of what actually happened when the guy gets kidnapped ... the scariest ten minutes I've ever seen.  I don't normally find aliens scary, but this film fucked me up for years to come.
