No firsting! No! Bad firster!

I thank you for your comments, and welcome them all, but firsting makes me go a bit Dustin Hoffman in Rain Man when people touch him.

I look forward to Valkyrie, as the life of Stauffenberg is a great one: the man who tried to kill Hitler. I admire Bryan Singer and Tom Cruise (professionally, needless to say), the latter whom I read learnt how to dress, move items and write with only three fingers on his left hand, like the real man.

Those are such superficial and ultimately irrelevant complaints that have absolutely no bearing on the quality of the film whatsoever.

Tom's American accent?  So bloody what?  It's not like Germans speak in Steven Fry's RP, is it?  Nor do they even go around speaking English in their own accents.  They speak German!  This is an English-language movie about a bunch of German characters.  This ain't bloody The Lives of Others.

And German actors?  Again, this isn't The Lives of Others.

What else can I tell you?

Personally, I'm thoroughly looking forward to this.  The last Tom Cruise period movie was The Last Samurai, which I thought was a damn near flawlessly crafted film.  I also happen to be a fan of Superman Returns and The Usual Suspects (though less so of the much overrated X-Men films), so I fully expect Singer to deliver the goods.

Not likely, I'm afraid.  The Academy seem to have made an unofficial pass time of dumping on Tom Cruise from a great height.

If there are any performance Oscars for this film, it'll be for his co-stars.  Not for him.

..that Tom Cruise is incredible in Tropic Thunder! I'm looking forward to this film because it is one of the many amazing true stories of bravery to come out of WWII.

I find all his performances, however technically accomplished, to be crippled by cruise's own self regard. It is impossible to watch any of his films and see the character instead of the actor/celebrity. I also hate his stupid face.
OK, I'll make an exception for Eyes Wide Shut. I get the impression that Kubrick was using the film-making process to pull apart Cruise's ego to mirror his characters journey of disillusionment. With hilarious consequences.

Hear hear.  I also am personally looking forward to this as I have a great interest in WWII.
I also very much like all of Singer's film's. I have to disagree about the X-Men movies though as I am somewhat of a comic book geek and thought the first 2 were excellent. Tom Cruise, apart from being a religious nut and a little bit strange outside of Hollywood is an excellent actor.  Who can forget Frank T.J Mackey in Magnolia?

I think 'firsting' is in reference to the annoying twats (aka, talkbackers) that are the scourge of Aint It Cool News.com

Its a shame US film studios, actors and director did not have the balls to make the film with German dialogue. It will be impossible for me to take this film seriously ...with the UK/US english dialogue (the trailer looks like a panto/dark comedy).

In China, a number of HK and Japanese actors had to learn to speak Mandarin to appear in films such as: Hero, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, House of Flying Daggers etc. Tom Cruise & co should of learnt to speak German to play the role.

I have no idea why so many people want them to speak German. I am German, and if we had to watch American actors trying to speak German (HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE ACCENT!!!), it would be so incredibly stupid and embarassing that we would dub it anyway.
So you would watch a version with amateur german and englich subtexts
...it's ridicoulus
