I was unsure of getting it after gamers were saying avp2010 was better. I enjoyed AVP but I had to admit the game is only suitable for the fans of the series. Anyone else looking for their next shooter would be very disappointed after playing it. However I decided to stick to my pre order untill I heard about how bad the final boss fight was. I heard the AI was pretty bad but I didn't expect something on that scale. Watching the final boss fight on youtube was enough for me to cancel my pre order.

Yep.I watched it and it was unsurprisingly disappointing.

I just watched playthroughs of each level and skipping parts in the videos.

I haven't seen much of the multiplayer so i can't comment on that. All I can say is Gear Box took this game into the wrong direction. I already own avp2010 and I can't justify myself buying ACM. I'm not saying avp2010 is a good game but what I can say it look superior than ACM. I just can't get my head around the fact the players are killing at least 50 xenos per level and have ammo dump in front of them every corner they turn. It just highlight this game is lazy made. Shoddy AI, no director AI, bad graphics, terrible level design. Gear Box set themselves out to make a straightforward shooter when they should of focus on a FPS surviver game.

Fans of the awful AvP movies perhaps.

It will take something special to be worse than AvP 2010. But then, they did produce Duke Nuke Forever.

And the Hicks comeback story,Sorry but I just aint buying into it.
Seems to be made by petty developers who still cant get over the fact he died in Alien3.And this game wont change that fact no matter how hard the developers try to strangle this game into cannon.

I watched the IGN Live Stream of ACM with one of the developers and when it came to the gameplay around Hadley's Hope it wasn't exactly explained how a structure on the planet's surface could remain even barely intact after a nuke was supposed to have blown the whole place up. There should be a giant fucking crater there!

As much as I'd been excited about this game for a while, intelligent writing seems already to be amiss here.

The problem with A:CM is GearBox made it into a traditional shooter. Maybe they want to market it to the Call Of Duty regulars or they didn't want to make a mature shooter. Just give the player 20 guns to equip at once, nearly unlimited ammo and health. Also to throw at least 50 dumb AIs at the player per level.

The best approach to an Alien game is to rip off Half Life and make it into a sandbox like Skyrim. You play a Wayland Yanti scientist in a research facility. Outside are small villages, military outpost, landing pad etc. Anyway WY has it hands on a Queen and you are part of the team to breed some aliens.
One or two aliens had escaped and WY sealed off the facility. All civilians in the site are being shot on sight to prevent them being used as hosts. Your task is to escape however as time progress it's clear the contagion doesn't work and the aliens start taking control. There are limited weapons about and it's more about surviving than 100% combat.

The problem is that the sequel's reputation and brand power is too much marketing pull to not use.

Hah a little amiss yeah. I just saw that clip where the guy says the "explosion went upward" so didn't affect the buildings. Pretty sure nuclear shock waves blast outwards in a sphere. And even then where is the radiation and fallout? Even if the buildings are standing I doubt anyone would want to go near them.

No, but Dead Space 3 reviews didn't start appearing until a day or two before release. If we don't see anything by tomorrow, then it could be cause for concern!

Hearing word that this is bad...Duke Nukem bad.

Apparently the Aliens are easy to kill, and not even the central baddies, and the thing has more in common with a COD shooter than an attempt at a horror shooter.

Also there is a twist so utterly dumb that I can't believe it made it past the planning stage.

Having watched a few gameplay video's, it kinda looks like I expected, pretty duff. I reckon it'll be a decent few days as a rental, but not really worth a full price purchase. Shame.

Some of the video's I saw looked really bad and glitchy, doors not opening, really over sensitive, tons of ammo missing when it looked like perfect hits. I havent really paid much attention to the story side of things, so am not sure if there is a decent explanation for the return of the SUlaco to LV-426, or why Hadley's Hope is still standing, so hopefully the explanations aren't too shite. Best moment in the video's I saw was probably seeing Hudson.

IF this game is a disappointment then it really comes as no surprise.
I think the concept was always going to feel familiar because of what has came before ie the AVP games.
Plus the story arc at this moment in time feels extremely loose and somewhat forced in the fact that the developers desperately wanted to link this game to the second movie. And the Hicks issue (and I've moaned about it above) still doesn't sit right with me.

Not surprised this is getting poor reviews TBH.The LONG development and obvious canon violations ( Hadleys Hope still standing after a nuke goes off ?0 , along with gameplay which just makes it look like a COD clone, didnt bode well.

Didn't realise this was out tomorrow, so it was a bit of a surprise getting it in the mail this morning. Suffice it to say, I have been waiting for this game for over a decade now and I've now had a chance to play through the first three levels and... it feels dated... very dated.

It looks like Aliens and it sounds like Aliens. I would say the writing and dialogue behind each of the characters is the game's saving grace so far.

As far as mechanics go, the game feels half baked. I mean how did the guys behind Borderlands make combat feel so hollow and lacklustre? The xenos don't come across as the deadly force they did in the movies, their movement is awkward. The original 1999 AVP managed is more satisfying and better executed. And then the game chucks human enemies at you, in the form of Weyland Yutani mercs... Let's just say the game doesn't compete on the same level of man vs man combat as COD or any modern FPS for that matter. You spit pulse rifle rounds into them and they, they don't really flinch, they're basically bullet sponges.

Apparently it gets better, but right now from what I've seen of the campaign it feels a bit of a turkey. Perhaps the MP is better...

D'oh. Can the alien franchise give us anything good anymore?

Hadleys Hope still standing after a nuke goes off ?

I was going to say something like this, all the reviews I've been reading this morning talk about a second team being sent in to see what happened to the first one, but..........there shouldn't really be anything down there, a fucking mahoosive nuclear explosion should have pretty much obliterated anything in sight.

By Tom Phillips Published Tuesday, 12 February 2013

The majority of Gearbox Software's Aliens: Colonial Marines was not actually built by Gearbox, a report suggests.

Comments from an ex-Gearbox developer dug up by Superannuation suggest that the majority of the game was outsourced to TimeGate Studios, developer of downloadable console shooter Section 8: Prejudice and various FEAR expansion packs.

"Hate to say it, but I wouldn't get your hopes up too high for Colonial Marines," the ex-dev wrote last year. "I used to work at Gearbox, and the development of that game has been a total train wreck, going on what, six years now?

"Gearbox isn't even making the game, except for the multiplayer. Primary development was outsourced to TimeGate Studios, which has a less than stellar past."

The author of the comments indicated that he was one of the founders of Texas start-up Armature Studio, who are known to be Mark Pacini, Todd Keller and Jack Mathews, although it's not clear exactly who was commenting.

Sega refused to comment on the matter when approached by Eurogamer.

News that TimeGate - and others - have contributed to the game is not new. But the explanation above appears to contradict comments from Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford, who previously told Gamasutra that 80 per cent of the work on the game had been done in-house.

Eurogamer's appraisal of the finished product suggests that at the very least Aliens: Colonial Marines wasn't the product of Gearbox's best team.

"Colonial Marines aims low and it still misses the target, and that's almost entirely because of the wretched game engine," Dan Whitehead wrote in Eurogamer's just-published 3/10 Aliens: Colonial Marines review. "The game feels like it's constantly on the verge of collapsing completely, and one of the only positive things that can be said about it is that it never quite does."

"What little hope Colonial Marines offers comes from multiplayer," Dan continued. "Neither mode is spectacular, but they are where the game comes closest to earning the Aliens logo on the box."

Watch the opening to Aliens: Colonial Marines below and you'll be presented with the following credit reel:

Sega presents
With 20th Century Fox
A Gearbox Software production of
A TimeGate Studios
Demiurge Studios
Nerve Software
and Gearbox Software game.

Shoot Many Robots developer Demiurge worked on a prototype of the game for nine months, before being moved to work on the Wii U version.

TimeGate's official site is still displaying a hiring poster for work on Aliens: Colonial Marines. The studio may be working on the game's four DLC add-ons. Publisher Sega yesterday announced a season pass for the content, priced 2400 Microsoft Points/19.99.

Gearbox, meanwhile, is still pumping out excellent Borderlands 2 DLC on a regular basis.

It is getting one hell of a beating now. Kind of feel sorry for the devs at Timegate studios - they seem to be the sacrificial lambs on this one.

What the fuck goes on at Gearbox - they produce gaming gold in Borderlands 1 & 2 and then Randy Pitchford goes on the PR rampage promoting garbage like Duke Nukem and this (I've not played it so could be wrong)

Going off the reviews I think its safe to say its not the big bag of awesome I was hoping for. Maybe when the price drops in a few months I'll pick it up to run through the co-op with likeminded fellows.
