ORIGINAL: Nimrods Son Loved this film. I find it sad that James Gandolfini is kinda underrated though. On this thread alone, Brad Pitt's stoner gets more recognision then him which is a shame 'cause I think Gandolfini was by turns rather charismatic and brilliantly psychotic. I think everybody can agree that Drexyl is a work of genius though, both from an acting and writing standpoint. As empire said, Oldman completely hi-jacks this movie, even though he's only in it for ten minutes or something! Anyway, I kinda agree with Snake Eyes. With this and FDTD, these films represent a happy medium of sorts for Tarantino. We get all his staples, such as lots of violence, pop culture references and badass monologues, but unlike the films he directs, there's a director who's abled to take a less biased, attached look at the material and decide what stuff is a bit self-indulgent and useless (like that fucking 15 minute scene in Pulp Fiction with Bruce Willis and his girlfriend. Good lord, that kicked the movie's momentum in the balls). I wholeheartedly agree with you regarding Gandolfini. Oldman, well it goes without saying that this is one of his best roles, all be it only for 10 minutes. And good call on the 'happy meduim' stuff. It's Tarantino through a Tony Scott filter and it's very unique in that sense.
