OK, so good news is that after replacing the batteries again!! I had a proper session of SF4 this afternoon and finished it with M Bison...

Bad news... (personally I think) it looks very pretty and there is obviously loads of unlockable goodies in there (Rose is now available following my win with Bison) but I can't get over the feeling that I like MK vs DC Universe a hell of a lot more. The look, the storylines, the feel of the fights, and overall MK is just a lot more fun to play. I always was an MK fan over SF but in all honesty I remember preferring SF2 to this version. The fights are over way too soon, even on the harder modes and Bison's ending to be totally honest was shite and next thing the credits were rolling and I was sat there thinking, is that it!!

I'm gonna keep working my way through it and see if it develops/grows on me but after a pretty good session this afternoon with it, it's not grabbed in the same way the latest MK game has done.

It depends what mood you get Seth in I guess. When I beat him he wasn't nearly as attacking as he was before then, very annoying.

I have just won my first online match which is great

On the back of three wins on the bounce I get my arse handed to me by a guy from France

I'm surprised I am doing as well as I have considering I have yet to learn how to pull of a super special attack yet

Is anyone else finding a lot of their apponents online playing as Sagat, or is it just me? The ones that use the tiger upper cut all the time are bloody annoying!

That's because Sagat has always been an overpowered spammer for noobs.  Play as Guile or Chun-Li, sonic boom/energy first + hundred kicks, get in close, pound him, rinse and repeat.

E-Honda is also good - missile launch, get in close and crush him/throws.

See I always thought Ryu and Ken were the ones for noobs (even if Ken is my main choice) as they were the best all rounders, Akuma would fall under this I think too with his mid air fireballs. I'm always more wary of people who use characters like Cammy or Barlrog because nobody new would use them and more often than not I am handed my arse on a plate.

Whilst some characters are more accessible than others I wouldn't say there are any just for "noobs". Easy to access maybe but hard to master...

Fast foward to 2:34 and tell me Ken is for "noobs"...

Noobs playing as Sagat will just use Tiger shot over and over and over again.

Noobs playing as Ken will spend most of their time hurricane kicking thin air.

Im absolutly loving this game.....

My biggest suprise is that the 360 d-pad almost seems sensitive for a change, Ive had no issuse so far trying to pull of any moves (other than Guiles Super/Ultra....what the hells with that thing???!).

Only had a few online fights so far, I got my ass handed to me the first few times, but I seem to be holding my own now. i guess it took a while for the refreshed gameplay to sink in after a solid month or two on SSF2 HDR.

Also, Ken and Ryu are the n00b choices, but like the bass.....they are easy to pick up, but hard to master.

The more folk play as Sagat, the more you learn to block. He's not too much hassle. Whacking the crap out of the Double Lariat on Zangief tends to make him go away. Kinda foul, yes, but sadly a truth. If someone even picks Sagat, I end up headed down Cheap Character Alley, stopping briefly to visit The Spam Inn. (E. Honda).

SF4 is getting some DLC. The costume packs will be released on a weekly basis costing about 320 points each. The FREE DLC shall consist of;

quote:

A "Championship Mode expansion pack" that adds a number of features to the game like the ability to record, upload and download matches to share with the Street Fighter IV community. The downloadable pack also includes new Points Systems to "measure your skill" and enhanced matchmaking that helps set beginners and intermediates in tournaments together, while requiring people to earn Grade Points to enter the higher level competitions. That should keep newbies from stumbling into confidence-destroying match-ups against pros while creating an incentive system (who doesn't love collecting points) for them to get better. The expansion pack will be available "post-launch," according to Capcom.

Only got chance to play this last night, loving it so far. Still waiting on my stick to arrive, which should make the experience even better.

PS3 players: I definitely recommend installing the game to the hard drive, loading times improve dramatically.

Loving the overall look & feel of things although it's still lacking that little something, can't quite put my finger on just what it is just yet but all the same it's great to see it back.On another note anyone else agree that Seth's probably the cheapest boss they've ever encountered?

Most people do. She is only good for her multi-kick combo.
Guile I can't do crap with. I just unlocked Seth and he is very easy to master...similar to Ryu/Ken

What difficulty is everyone playing this on? I'm finding it a real challenge even getting to Seth on Medium.

I popped it back in again today and finished it with Sagat (but funnily enough only for that final fight with Seth), I used E Honda to defeat everyone else, then lost to Seth. Went back again as Blanka - got nowhere with him! And so thought, sod it I'll try Sagat and with a blend of attempted moves and button mashing somehow won. Once again though, those endings are shite IMO! I'm sure they build into a lovely movie when you have them all together in your gallery but getting there could be a bit of a chore...

Oh and just out of interest, what does everyone else make of Seth's spin-cycle move (y'know the one where he says 'become me' and turns into a washing machine before spitting you out of his stomach! )

Managed to get a couple of the more difficult trophies (achievements if you're on the 360) last night. First one was completing Arcade mode on Hardest difficulty, which really took some doing. But with Ryu, anything is possible! Second one was going through Arcade mode on Medium or higher without using a continue. This one I earned by chance whilst trying to unlock Akuma and Gouken. Unlocking Akuma can be done, but Gouken is a whole other ball game...

quote:

Unlocking Gouken

Unlock Akuma and beat the game with him. Then beat the game again with any character by winning the matches in the following ways...

Fight 1. Perfect
Fight 2. Ultra
Fight 3. Ultra
Fight 4. Ultra
Fight 5. Normal
Fight 6. Normal
Fight 7. Normal
Fight 8. Normal

I faced someone who had unlocked Gouken last night. Needless to say I got beat pretty easilly. At least it makes a change from the amount of people who use only Akuma or Sagat in battles now. It's too bloody frustrating to try and play people who will continuously let off fireballs in mid air or tiger upper cuts all the sodding time.

This isn't as bad as it seems, you can use 'easiest', and have it set to just 'one round'....

Once you get Akuma, make sure you complete the game with him first, then go back through it with ur fav character and do the above..... it took me a few goes as I think I got additional ULTRAs or Perfects the first couple of times as nobody of sure of the exact science behind it when I done it...

Been playing this a fair bit online today, and some of the move spammers you get online are hilarious.

Had quite a few people do the old jump hard kick, crouch sweep kick combo over and over again, then I was against someone playing against Bison who just kept doing psycho crushers over and over again. The guy I had a few minutes ago takes the cake though, he chose Zangief and kept doing his spinning lariat move over and over again.

That does give me some confidence to try online. Still I have not played this nearly enough. Still need to get some proper time with the game.

I was unlocking the characters in a rush on easy the other day. Though so far I have manged to clock it with Ryu and Ken on Medium Hard. I would have done it with Sagat too but Seth is just a pain in the arse!

Before last night I managed to defeat Seth quite easily with Ryu or Ken and didn't totally understand why everyone was saying Seth was so hard (I had more problems with the rivials).

Then last night I was playing with Chun-Li and it took me around 45 mins to defeat the bas****.  Now I understand.

The most frustrating "combo" in the history of Streetfighter. That's been everpresent since the dawn of Streetfighter 2 and it's quite annoying to find that it's still as effective now as it was then. It's nearly as bad as the Concorde Kick, 2 steps back, Concorde Kick ad infinitum combo in Mortal Kombat 2 (or the even more frustrating, and unblockable, get the opponent to the edge of the screen and hammer kick to knee your opponent to oblivion "tactic").

Will be getting this on my birthday (in less than a fortnight) off the missus, so if anyone fancies having the Smackdown layeth upon them then just let me know .

I'm sure there is a glitch in this game. I have been playing the game on medium/hard and finding myself able to compete with the challenges in arcade to unlock a few characters. However I've just tried it on easy and had my arse battered six ways from Sunday when facing certain characters. I haven't faced as many super combos and special moves from the likes of C Viper and Rufus even when playing on the harder levels and found myself getting KO'd within 10 seconds.

Has anyone else found this?

No I have not really had this problem. It is probaly more down to how you played than anything. Once I unlocked Akuma I was just rushing through on easy to unlock the characters...and Dan beat me in one round. The next round I just stood to one side and he just walked into my hadokens over...and over...and over. So it proves the A.I on easy is stupid yet he did just get lucky in one round and I played terribly.

Lost my online virginity today. It was not as bad as I thought it would be at all. Got on a 8 win streak and usually got the better of everyone out of all our matches. Apart from one person who I beat two times in a row...who then preceded to beat me three times in a row...and one of their victories was with Dan!...That was shameful.

My favourite wins happened near the end of my play. The other player jumped to Akuma right away.  I was winning with Ken but his Ultra took me by suprise as I don't think you can block it. The next match he picked Seth right away...I could see a pattern emerging. I choose Sagat and defeated him. Finnaly he picked Akuma yet again so I picked Ken and proceded to kick seven shades of shit out of him. He had obviously been relying on the overpowered boss unlockable characters (Akuma, Seth and Goken). Had to be schooled.
