I don't get the love for How I Met Your Mother. It has never once amde me laugh out loud, something TBBT does regularly.

HIMYM definitely isn't as funny as it was in its early years. The writers have spent a lot of time and character development which has come at the cost of a few laughs. Last year they were renewed for 2 seasons instead of the one which is unusual and common theory is that they'll be finishing it up after that and so they now have a strict schedule within which they have to get the characters to their destinations as revealed by future Ted.

In my opinion, TBBT doesn't have the same level of development character or plotwise (certainly there are things such as Sheldon and Amy relationship), I don't see an end game. To put it simply I watch TBBT to laugh, and I watch HIMYM because I care about the characters.

That said I can see why people wouldn't like HIMYM

My missus watches it, and I just feel it's very smug and self satisfied with itself.

And the central premise has been dragged out for far too long. It's more like bloody Lost than a sitcom.

knowing 'how i met....' is filmed and then show to an audience instead of done live puts distance to me as a viewer.
plus its a rip off of 'coupling'.

I thought TBBT was recorded too, they defo use a laughter track. Anyway, Community is recorded but that doesn't the love people (me amongst them) love it. I don't really see how it being recorded makes a difference, so many shows are

BB looks and sound like it is done live. it makes a difference in the way the actors perform to a audience or just to each other on a sound stage..

Best comedy show about now I'd say.

Though I haven't watched Community yet...

Awesome, despite moving into Friend's territory (like every other US sitcom) it's still my favourite comedy. More nerdiness needed though, less of the relationship stuff

Apparently Stephen Hawking has filmed a cameo for the show. He has a scene with Sheldon - look forward to that one.

They always said that he was the dream cameo but the writers thought he was too ill to take part.

Amy, tiara, I laughed my head off.

She's fast becoming my favourite character. And I hated her at the start.

Hmm, I don't know. I still don't think Sheldon should have a girlfriend. It's not in his nature as seen in seasons 1 - 4. I've said it before but less relationship stuff please (this isn't Friends) and more geek stuff

It was a decent return.

Amy and her tiara was for me probably up there with Raj and "shut your ass" as one of the things this show as made me properly belly laugh at, good episode.

Don't forget Howard's magic trick, with Raj tellig him what Sheldon's card is.

Easily my favourite TBBT moment.

I thought the second episode (101) was much better than the 100th episode. The phone gags were really funny, as was Sheldon / Amy's flag show.

Yeah, it's live. As with many popular sitcoms, they edit the laughter in post, sometimes to trim a laugh or applause or even to add some for scene transitions (Friends did this a lot but was shot live). HIMYM sounds like a laugh track but TBBT sounds live to me. Case in point, this scene-

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mlhHTdDqoBc

That's not a laugh track. Look them 'riding the lauhs' and when Penny starts a line but pauses as the audience is still laughing (after the 'DNA of Leonard Nimoy' line). And just listen to them when he hugs her, that's a live audience

I'm not sure if it's been shown in the UK or not yet but the episode guest starring Stephen Hawkin is absolutely fantastic!

Ahh, The Big Bang Theory. The show where a bunch of ugly geeks somehow manage to bed beautiful women that in reality wouldn't look at them twice. Funny though.
