Anyone watching this on Channel 4? Watched the first couple of eps, definately a grower. If you like you're comedy geeky with plenty of in jokes, this should be right up your street. The only recogniseble actor so-far is Johnny Galecki of Roseanne and National Lampoons Christmas Vacation fame, with more Roseanne actors due to appear this series.

I caught five minutes of it the other evening and found it amusing.... so much so that last night I downloaded all 8 episodes of the first season!

I caught the first episode but have managed to miss every one since, despite the near-constant trailers on E4 reminding me when to watch.  I'd say it was typical for the start of a sitcom, in that it clearly had potential, had a couple of decent gags, but hadn't quite found its feet yet.  I really must try to catch it again this week, if only for the novelty of seeing my former life documented on the tellybox

As for recognisable actors, the tall scrawny chap playing Johnny Galecki's flatmate was also in Garden State briefly (as the reinactment knight who spoke Klingon, naturally), and the blonde girl looks vaguely familar in a Disney Channel reject kinda way, but as for the others, nope, can't place 'em.

This is the best geek show ever. Far superior to the boring IT Crowd and Spaced.
Sheldon is one of the greatest comedy creations and the greatest geek ever.

Leonard: What are you doing?
Sheldon: Every Saturday since weíve lived in this apartment, I have awakened at 6:15, poured myself a bowl of cereal, added a quarter-cup of 2% milk, sat on this end of this couch, turned on BBC America, and watched Doctor Who.
Leonard: Pennyís still sleeping.
Sheldon: Every Saturday since weíve lived in this apartmentÖ
Leonard: You have a TV in your room, why donít you just have breakfast in bed?
Sheldon: Because I am neither an invalid nor a woman celebrating Motherís Day.

Sheldon: I'm sorry but I'm not going to watch the Clone Wars TV Series until I've seen the Clone Wars movie. I prefer to let George Lucas disappoint me in the order he intended.

Penny: I always say that when one door closes, another one opens.
Sheldon: No it doesn't. Not unless the two doors are connected by relays or there are motion sensors involved. Or if the first door closing creates a change of air pressure that acts upon the second door.
Penny: (gives Sheldon a long look) Never mind.

Sheldon: Rock - Paper - Scissors - Lizard - Spock

Penny: Iím a Sagittarius, which probably tells you way more than you need to know.
Sheldon: Yes, it tells us that you participate in the mass cultural delusion that the sunís apparent position relative to arbitrarily defined constellations at the time of your birth somehow affects your personality.
Penny: (puzzled) Participate in the what?

Leonard: We need to widen our circle.
Sheldon: I have a very wide circle. I have 212 friends on myspace.
Leonard: Yes, and youíve never met one of them.
Sheldon: Thatís the beauty of it.

Penny: Yes, I know men can't fly.
Sheldon: No, no let's assume that they can. Lois Lane is falling, accelerating at an initial rate of 32ft per second, per second. Superman swoops down to save her by reaching out two arms of steel. Ms. Lane, who is now traveling at approximately 120 miles per hour, hits them, and is immediately sliced into three. equal pieces.

Sheldon: Iíve spent the past three-and-a-half years staring at greaseboards full of equations; before that, I spent four years working on my thesis; before that, I was in college; and before that, I was in the fifth grade.

Sheldon: 1234 is not a secure password.

Sheldon: What type of Computer do you have? And please don't say a white one.

Sheldon: Okay, look, I think you have as much of a chance of having a sexual relationship with Penny as the Hubble telescope does of discovering that at the center of every black hole is a little man with a flashlight searching for a circuit breaker. Nevertheless, I do feel obligated to point out to you that she did not reject you. You did not ask her out.

Sheldon: What if she ends up with a toddler who doesn't know if he should use an integral or a differential to solve for the area under a curve?
Leonard: I'm sure she'll still love him.
Sheldon: I wouldn't.

Sheldon: We donít eat here, I donít know whatís goodÖ
Penny: Well, itís all good.
Sheldon: Statistically unlikely.

Dr. Gablehauser: Okay, well, speaking of spreads, we're having a small welcoming party this afternoon for Mr. Kim who's agreed to join us here at the university.
Sheldon: Of course he has. The Oracle told us little Neo was the one. You can see the matrix, can't you?

Leonard: You are not Isaac Newton.
Sheldon: No, no, that's true. Gravity would have been apparent to me without the apple.

Sheldon: I'll have a diet Coke.
Penny: Can you please order a cocktail? I need to practice mixing drinks.
Sheldon: Fine... I'll have a virgin Cuba Libre.
Penny: That's... rum and Coke without the rum.
Sheldon: Yes, and would you make it diet?

Leonard (looking at the heavy box and the stairs): Do you have any ideas?
Sheldon: Yes, but they all involve a Green Lantern and a Power Ring.

Sheldon: Today, I went from being Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, to... You know, that other guy.
Howard: Antonio Salieri?
Sheldon: Oh God, now even you are smarter than me.

Leonard: Most people don't sort their breakfast cereal numerically by fiber content.
Sheldon: Excuse me, but I think we've both found that helpful at times.

Sheldon: Scissors cuts paper, paper covers rock, rock crushes lizard, lizard poisons Spock, Spock smashes scissors, scissors decapitates lizard, lizard eats paper, paper disproves Spock, Spock vaporizes rock, and as it always has, rock crushes scissors.

Leonard: If you don't have any other plans, do you want to join us for Thai food and a Superman movie marathon?
Penny: A marathon? Wow, how many Superman movies are there?
Sheldon: You're kidding, right?

Sheldon: I don't know how, but she is cheating! Nobody can be that attractive and this skilled at a videogame.

Sheldon: Can't we just go to Big Boy? They only have one burger: the Big Boy.
Penny: The Barbecue Burger is like the Big Boy.
Sheldon: Excuse me, in a world that already includes a Big Boy, why would I settle for something that's like a Big Boy?

tooooooooooo many quotes

Any other fans?

Thankyooooou for putting all these quotes up, I miss Big Bang Theory (no tv at present). If you have E4 you might recognize the girl from 8 Simple Rules but I only know this cos it was driving me crazy where else I knew her from so I googled her. Playing "what else were they in?" is fun but I'm not very good at letting it go

i love The Big Bang Theory and i usually watch it on E4

Sheldon is extremely funny and his characters lack of knowledge about non-scientific things is hilarious

Does anyone what happened to series 2 on E4? Before christmas, they were showing them in double bills every Wednesday, I think it reached episode 8. Now they've gone back to the start with one a week.

It's a great show, Sheldon is hilarious. I think my favourite line though is from Penny, her comment about the time machine looking like something Elton John would use in the Everglades

In America they are on Episode 15 so I think E4 are waiting till there's enough episodes to start the double bill again, They should just show one a week so we don't catch up to quickly

E4 haven't shown any new episodes for a while now have they?  I assumed it was due to the writer's strike splitting seasons in half etc.

This really annoys me, E4 have done the same with Smallville too. I can't be asked to watch all 10 eps again, I just want a continuation from where it left off. BBC have done it with Heroes, Virgin have done it with Terminator, what's the issue with E4?

I watched this very casually when it first came out, but my other half started watching and fell in love with it so I bought him the Series One boxset, now we're both obsessed. Its nice to see a amsart and witty sitcom with all the other sitcom drivvle that gets pumped out.
Excited about the new series on E4 soon.

And love all the Sheldon quotes too!

Well that new episode on E4 was possibly the funniest one yet, and all the BSG related stuff was just amazing, especially as its aired just as we've seen the finale. I had to stop and pause in awe at the eye of Jupiter picture in the background of Sheldons flat.

Love this show.

This show used to be available on 4's website to watch online, but they haven't had them up there for ages now. Does anybody know if it will be available, or if the new episode is repeated?

Ive watched a few episodes after reading some of the comments on Empire and agree that there are some really, really funny lines in the show. Unfortunately they are spoken by characters that I just dont care for. The IT Crowd is so much better. Whilst their might not be as many jokes per minute as BBT the characters in IT Crowd are more funny due to the fact you have more empathy for them.

Hmmm, maybe working in IT means I'm particularly resistant to the IT Crowd. I've watched a few and I just find the characters frakking annoying and the show not that funny (apart from Noel Fielding).

I wouldn't go as far as 'empathise' when I discuss BBT characters, but I certainly find every single character funny and entertaining in their own right, and that's all I need in a sitcom to make me laugh and enjoy it.

I think TBBT is one of the few genuinely laugh out loud sitcoms America has produced in recent years, ever seince Seinfeld, Friend, Frasier have ended there's been a void of really good sitcoms, some are ok like King of Queens and Two and a Half Men, but with TBBT and How I met your Mother theres 2 really good comedy shows right there, one of my friends may as well be Sheldon, same inablility to understand sarcasm, has a phd, movie and video game geek, he hasnt gotten round to watching this yet though so its like a private joke among the rest of us
