Pretty good PPV at the weekend. I didn't have anybody in particular to root for but it was interesting nonetheless. I was suprised that the GSP/Fitch and the Lesnar/Herring fights went the distance, considering the onesided nature of them both. If I was being hyper critical then I'd say that GSP should have put Fitch away, I'm not entirely sure why that is though. The prospect of a Penn/GSP rematch is very exciting indeed. And probably the right call at the minute, Florian didn't really put an exclamation point on his number one contender status at lightweight leaving Penn with a bit of wait for a decent fight. Whilst GSP has beaten Hughes, Serra, Kos, and Fitch recently, with the only legitmate contender being Alves who needs to be punished for not making weight in his last fight.

So if Penn/GSP didn't make sense before, it certainly does now. Hopefully it'll headline the end of year show.

And Lesnar did act like a twatty child, you can take the boy out of wrestling but...............

Two fights in the UFC, with just one win and Lesnar's already got a title shot!? Here's hoping Couture sorts him out.

No problem with me. The last PPV was a top one. One of the best. The only issue now is who can Silva fight next and actually provide some competition? He might just consider going up a weight class in search of a challenge.

Are you involved in any MMA training right now BigKovacs? Not professional, just practice and stuff?

I forgot all about this thread... I'm not involved now Art but I two years ago I was training Muay Thai to an inter-club level and was attending MMA classes a couple of times a week. I'm looking to get back into it again. Are you training at the mo?

Regarding UFC I'm so far behind it's a crime. I haven't had access to sky for a very long time so I'll have to resort to Youtube for my fixes so far... and what I hear here.

Barely any training really. Was just taking weekly thai boxing classes when at uni, which I'll take up again when I return. I should really train more often.

If your trying to catch up, I would recommend last months Affliction PPV

The Fedor fight was great but the Arvoloski fight was incredible.

UFC wise - GSP is still awesome and for an unusual David v Goliath fight, dig out the Lesnar vs Mir fight.

Cheers, I'll have a look at Youtube later to see if I can find any highlights. Who was Arlovski fighting and is he still good?

Art where are you based mste? There are a few good Muay Thai clubs around london if slightly out of town. They include some ground fighting to a petty high standard considering they specialise in standing fighting.

Live in Essex but i study in Bournemouth, so i just go to a club down there. It's nothing amazing but for a beginner like myself, it does the trick.

It was a quality knock-out and on par with his knock-out on Sean Sherk (if you haven't seen that, youtube it). After winning the ultimate fighter, knocking out one of the legends of the sport and still remaining undefeated, it's time people started realizing what a force Evans is.

So, this weekend, Bisping or Leben? It's got to be Bisping in my book, it's just a shame they don't bring the big big stars over here to the UK.

Affliction could be a real contender to UFC if the work was put in. Outstanding PPV, that probably had something to do with Fedor Emelianenko, that guy is a monster. I struggle to think of anyone that would actually beat him. I mean if this guy can't with his height advantage, then who can?

He's fighting Andrei Arlovski for the WAMMA HW Title in January at Day of Reckoning so that should make for a great fight, AA has really got his act together since leaving UFC and is now one of the best strikers in MMA. Looking forward to this one.

To be fair to the UFC they have brought over quite a few of their big names in the past, Rampage, Hendo, Cro Cop and Matt Hughes. All champions at one point in their career and headliners in their own right. Also the UK was meant to have the Liddell/Rashad fight in the summer but injury curtailed that. And they don't come bigger than Liddell.

Furthermore it was a real shame that the Machida/Silva fight got cancelled for 89. Two of the brightest up and comers in the marquis division would have been truly epic, Machida is a different breed of fighter and one of the hottest stars at the minute.

Oh and I pick Bisping too.

I never saw the PPV but apparently the brits had a good show, and Bisping won which is always good! Another fight, maybe two and I think he'll be ready for Silva. That would be a great fight. Credit to Leben aswell, the guy is a little haymaker machine, gave it his all.

Can't explain how much i want Couture to win. I'm not the biggest fan of Couture, but I'd hate to see Lesnar take the title after non-stop ground and pound. He's gonna have around a 60 pound weight advantage but it would appear Couture likes being the underdog, so who knows.

Also, look out for Demian Maia vs Nate Quarry tonight. Maia is 9-0 and definitely one to look out for. Even a possible candidate for Anderson Silva's next opponent.

Exactly what I was thinking. It would have to be a No.1 contender match but I really couldn't say which way it would go. Standing up, Bisping would probably take it but as soon as they hit the ground, Maia's remarkable ju-jitsu could end the fight fast. Bring it on!

And as for Lesnar's next opponent? Well whoever wins the fight between Mir & Nogueira in December will go on to face him, but maybe its time to finally bring in Fedor. I know he's hesitant about fighting in the UFC but surely this would be a fight he couldn't resist.

Oh, and great to see Matt Brown from the last Ultimate Fighter get another win. I'm a big fan of the guy and along with becoming increasingly more technical, he's maybe the hardest guy fighting in the UFC today.

Mir looked great although Nog did look like a shot fighter.

I dont want to take anything away from Mir's great performance. No doubt, he is a solid fighter.
But it is slightly difficult to ignore the fact that Nog looked in the worst shape iv'e ever seen him in and just didn't seem like the same man who beat the likes of CroCop, Barnett, Herring, Kharitonov etc.

'twas a sad sight to see indeed.

On a better note, two days remain until Fedor-Arlovski.
I'm going with Fedor via TKO.

oh well - the quality run couldnt go on for ever!

I enjoyed the main event but Shogun was poo! Nearly beaten by a 44 year old (who was gassed after 2 mins)

incidentally, I thought Franklin should have won.

The wife was out on Saturday and it was from the O2 Arena in Dublin so I put it on for the watch.  I don't think I'll be tempted back too soon, they were really poor fights imo.

I'd pretty much forgotten about this thread over the last few months. Anyone watching the new Season of The Ultimate Fighter? I was a bit worried that our guys wouldn't match up at all in comparison to the Yanks but from the elimination fights, there doesn't seem to be much difference in class. If anything, we performed better.

Also, the upcoming PPV. I'm a big fan of Silva (who isn't?) but a part of me wouldn't mind seeing him lose the title so maybe he can concentrate on fighting Light Heavyweight for a while. Can Lietes beat him? Maybe, if he gets him to the ground...but that's still a very big maybe.
