I'm considering handing in my notice or try to get time off work for stress related illness. I can't tolerate being treated like a piece of shit and having to turn a blind eye to my manager appalling behaviour. I'm the one who got the most work every day and my manager choose the most easiest. Worst still he needs help to do it and give me lectures where I'm at. I just fucking hate him and it's not healthy holding myself back from this abuse. Months ago he thought it was acceptable to bully me but I made an official complaint about his behaviour and that came to an end. However how can I progress when I have a manager only looking out for himself and damaging other developement?

I also like to add he increased my workload and asked me if I wanted to do overtime to get through it all? Fucking cunt..........

I'd get yourself to the GPs sharpish mate, as you're right - this kinda stuff can't be good for your health - especially as it seems to be getting to you as well.

One thing I would say is at my last job there was a woman who had similar feelings towards her boss (his name was Michael - if you dared call him Mike he would just stare at you until you walked away, He also talked down to everyone even when it was him asking for help with his work, and his best bit of work - as he;s Mormon he doesn't celebrate Christmas...... he also banned any of his team from celebrating it either, so around this time of year every bank of desks in the office would be festively decorated and the teams will be talking of Christmas nights out/Secret Santa/etc except his team who sit there miserable because they're being forced to ignore it all), she ended up going to her Doctors and they instantly signed her off with Stress due to her bosses treatment of her, and when she came back she requested to do her return to work with a different manager and explained everything - within a week, she'd been moved to a different team and seemed like a completely different person because of it.

What happened to the cunt of a boss though?

Last I heard he's still there and making someone else's life hell, that seems to have been the way at my old place - Last year my dicky knee kicked in and I had the kind of limp you only see on bad actors trying to play a pirate, a different manager e-mailed me directly "So I see the fake hobbling has come back again", note this was about 2 weeks after it had started, a couple of days after I'd brought a letter in from a specialist to state that I'd possibly need surgery but they were trying physiotherapy first and to top it off she wasn't even my manager.

Last Friday she left the company via a redundancy pay-out - pretty certain it would have been well into 5 figures as well, when I raised it with my manager at the time he took her off for a chat, and when she came back out I got a short e-mail pretending she didn't remember sending the e-mail and was sorry if it offended me at all. My boss wouldn't let me take it any further.

My boyfriend originally wanted us to have Christmas Day round at our house this year, but after our invitation to his mum and step dad was turned down, I suggested we go to my sister's, where my parents (who hoof it over from England each year), will also be, giving them the chance to spend the day with their children and new grandson. In the evening my sister's children and my eldest will join us for a kids party and I've extended an invite to my ex husband (who will be dropping our son off anyway) to stay for a while, have a few drinks, say hello to everyone etc, especially as he has no family in this country and would otherwise be going home to an empty house. Apparently I'm the worst person in the world for doing this and have had the silent treatment from my boyfriend ever since I ran it past him last night, despite the fact that it wasn't even my idea and I've already considered his feelings by changing it to an evening thing, when my family originally wanted to invite my ex for lunch.

I fucking hate the silent treatment, it really is the sort of behavior I deplore and I'm so disappointed that my boyfriend can't look past his stupid paranoia and insecurities enough to see it for what it is - a genuinely nice gesture of friendship that ensures that my son doesn't see his father being deliberately excluded or alone on Christmas.

Ouch. You have my sympathies, Reb. I count myself very fortunate in that I'm on good enough terms with my ex-wife that if we were in a similar position, she would extend the same courtesy to me. Luckily, I'll be at the girlfriend's for Christmas dinner this year and then coming back to mine so my children will be with me Christmas night, but if I was still single I know she wouldn't have a problem with me going to her mam's for Christmas dinner because obviously that means I'll be able to spend time with the children. In fact, it's usually the case that when I've dropped my son off at her mam's on a Sunday I stay for dinner then as well. Most of the time my ex isn't there, but she knows that it means I get to have some quality time with my son when I would otherwise be alone.

I'm also doubly lucky that my girlfriend has always known about this situation and has been completely fine with it. She knows that it's not about sharing a room with my ex (I wouldn't particularly describe it as 'spending time with') or with her family, but about a father spending time with his children when that time has to be halved now. Mind you, for all I know my ex's new partner may hate the idea of me being around, but so what? Not the person whose opinion particularly counts for much, to be honest.

My honest (and appreciating the situation you're in, I'll admit I'm biased quite strongly here) opinion, would be to tell your boyfriend to man up about this. Yes, I get that this is a situation where you could be insecure and paranoid about it, but...come on. It's about a son seeing his dad on Christmas Day. Nothing else. Yeah, man up about it.

Hope it gets sorted soon in a way that's good for everybody.

Yeah, I think he needs to take it on the chin. I do understand that he's insecure about this, but I think it's the kids who should get priority on days like Christmas. Although I can only speak from my own experience, Christmas isn't as special when you're an adult as it is when you're a kid, and you only get one chance at childhood (and not for very long).

I think he also needs to remember that he's the one who will be going home with you afterwards.

Is your boyfriend 15? I'm sure he's a nice bloke but never have the words 'fucking grow up' been quite so apt.

And then some. To suggest to any young girl watching Hunger Games that the beautiful young woman who stars in it is 'fat' is frankly dangerous.

Check out the Jennifer Laurence thread in Actors and Auteurs for more ill-informed judgemental rubbish. Not only does she eat what she likes and still look beautiful, she also once shit herself, the bitch.

If Miss Lawrence is 'fat', then consider me a chubby-chaser...

It reminds me of a TV show I saw a while back (can't remember what it was called) that indicated how fucked up young men are nowadays in relation to the female body, after exposure to terrible magazines and internet porn...

They were shown pictures of breasts, some of which were perfectly normal and some of which were those ridiculous enhanced porno-tits...

They all, without fail, deemed the normal breasts are being 'disgusting' and 'awful' and 'wrong'...

I was genuinely shocked.

Client: "Are you working over Christmas"
Me: "No, sorry, we finish on Friday and return on the 2nd"
Client: "Well, I really need to see someone over the Christmas period, it's the only time me and my husband have got"
Me: "OK, I can make this Monday, and I'm free New Year's Eve, but I'm busy for the rest of the time"
Client: "Oh well, how disappointing, we'll come and see you on New Year's Eve then"

They are retired.
I've had 6 days off this year. And they couldn't find time the other 350 odd days to come SEE ME!

I'm glad you picked up on that, the emphasis on how disappointing was what irritated me most.
Anyway, she has since arranged to see me on Monday, which is better than New Years Eve, but means that I don't quite finish work this Friday.

Disappointing is a great word for that. I do use it but only when the person at the other end has already messed up!

Bulbs gone on the Christmas tree lights soyou need to buy a new set? Tucked into the After Eights earlier than you should so you want more for Christmas Day? Planning on buying that reindeer scarf that would make an ideal additional gift? Then don't go to bloody Asda because their seasonal aisle is now all towels, DIY and electronics.

I don't want to go into too much depth but I had the most stupidest argument with my manager, which was followed by me being isolated and getting a lot of verbal abuse. Oh the joys of having dignity and standing up for myself.

Seriously I'm considering handing in my notice and risk months of being unemployeed. I had been completely let down and no one should have to tolerate this type of abuse like I have. If my manager want to spend his time hiding his flaws instead of improving himself? Well that fine but he should do everyone on our department a favour and that by getting the fuck out of our way.

I would like to add I take no pride being a dick, I did no point scoring and took the abuse like a man.

G, I implore you not to quit your job. I've been unemployed for several months. had so many job interviews with no joy...

I also met so many fellow dole-ites, some of them far more experienced or educated than me, and they've been out of work for years, can't even get a minimum-wage job in a fucking call-centre...

I do have a new job, starting Jan 2nd... quite a big pay-drop but I feel so lucky to be back in work...

Also bear in mind that if you quit your job you won't get any benefits for at least six months...

We're in the middle of a massive fucking recession. Jobs are hard to find. No matter how bad your work situation is, just hold your breath, count to five and let it wash over you.

Nothing is as bad as unemployment.

Is this something that your whole team feels? Or at the very least, are they on your side?

Rather than run the risk of becoming unemployed, what if you and the rest of your colleagues took a stand against him? Like a formal complaint that's more than just you and you alone?

Given what you've described sounds pretty unprofessional, I'd like to think that the relevant hierarchy would listen to and act upon a united front.

Or at the very least, you could possibly be asked to be transferred / reassigned / moved teams etc (if possible).

The good news is the situation is wide spread and my manager's behaviour is well known. However we could lose both of our jobs and this situation is making me look very unprofessional. A lot of people actually wish they move him on because he's struggling to run our department and we have to tolerate his behaviour because of it.
