This has to be Mel Gibson's best action movie. Danny glover and mel make a good team which makes this film a classic !

I agree, Lethal Weapon is a slick, sharp, slam-bang action movie, nicely directed by Donner, expertly written by Shane Black. The sequel is even better though, more agressive and taut. But the original is about as good as it gets just the same, the hilarious sequence with the jumper, the hard-knocks fight in the front yard of Murtaugh's house, the torture sequence and following shootout in the disco...It's got everything you could want from an action movie. Gibson and Glover are both on excellent form and the supporting cast is good as well. Especially Gary Busey.

"Well, I haven't killed you yet."

Indeed one of the greatest action movies ever made. Hell, I find it even better than Die Hard. The first is my favorite. It's so much darker than the other entries. It's more serious, which I like.

the scene where Mel is about to kill himself is still exciting, fucking great movie, love the fight at the end, the kind of balls out nasty violence they just dont put in movies anymore, i agree with Kazuya about the sequel though, plus they drowned patsy kensit which is always great

I agree, very powerful scene, Mel really makes one believe just how fucked up he is, the outstanding music from Kamen underscores is nicely.

I actually found Kensit's drowning in the sequel quite shocking, but it served a good purpose, it made Gibson's character go completely crazy (love the bit where he brings down the stilt-house), I think the extremely tough nature of the sequel is what makes it work so well. That, and some badguys you just love to hate.

its annoying that even the "uncut" dvd is missing the scene wher mel batters the guy to death with the car door, hate the editing in that scene theres a big crescendo of music for no reason

Great movies 1 and 2 although I think that 3 was exceptional, but 4 was disappointing bringing in the Triads was a bad idea, but if they decide to make another sequel perhaps they should pick up an original story something that hasnt been done before and will become a classic.

Waiting to get Leathal Weapon 1 & 2 on Blu-Ray.

It's a great movie, besides the tough nature of it and the slick action scenes, it's also very funny, the straight-jacket scene, the bit with the condom-plant after Murtaugh's daughter's been in the unfortunate commercial, the whole Leo Getz character, who could easily have been irritating, but actually works because Pesci is such a good actor, it's got it all.

"I'm surprised you haven't heard of me, I got a bad reputation, like sometimes I just go nuts like now ha ha!"

I've always found the series better the darker they are, so if they are going to make a number 5, they'll better do it dark. But that's just my opinion though.

Me too
The first is a classic, but the second is superior - funnier and with better Gibson/Glover interplay. Oh, and Pesci is a scream.
But what about Donner? Superman, then The Gooneis, followed by Lethal Weapon 1 and 2. Jesus!

LW2 just edges it for me - it's almost as dark (Riggs' personal demons and all) and even more hilarious (thank you Joe Pesci!).

For Snake-Eyes, there is only one LETHAL WEAPON and that is this one;

I can't stand the sequels! yes, even part two, which most people seem to hold in high regard for some reason or another - what the hell was up with that borderline porno-graphic sex scene?! and Joe Pesci? just plain annoying as Leo Getz. anyhoo, the original is one of the best action movies ever made! Producer Joel Silver was on a roll back in 1987 with this AND PREDATOR. Shane Black (who also portrayed 'Hawkins' in Predator) wrote a great script with great bad guys and cracking lines:

Murtaugh: "Uh, get me some plain paper and some crayons. Hurry it up...."

Riggs: "Oh this is good, I like this."

Murtaugh: "Can it Man."

Riggs: "We're gonna put out an APB on Big Bird..."

LW certainly spawned a new sub-genre in Action Cinema: the buddy-buddy cop movie; Tango & Cash, Red Heat, Showdown in Little Tokyo, Bad Boys, Rush Hour... it all started here. I remember back when it was set to be released on video, my brother & I were looking at the 'Upcoming Titles' catalogue at my parents' video shop and we didn't have a clue what it was about but because it was listed as 'Action', my bro suggested 'Maybe it's a Ninja Movie?'   It wasn't a Ninja Movie but a damn fine kick-ass classic.  the reason I don't like the follow-ups is because they were just too damn comedy-ish and by the time we reached the fourth instalment, Riggs wasn't so much 'Lethal' but a bloody family man with Rene Russo! (a.k.a. Snake-Eyes' Most Hated Actress) and how on Earth did anyone buy Glover and Gibson taking on Jet Li?!  The Directors' Cut gives a few more added scenes, the best being Riggs taking out the sniper shooting at a Kids' playground. And the alternate ending was better.

Suicidal, fucked up 'heroes' are almost the norm now but when Lethal Weapon fist came on the scene it was a bit different.  An action classic with brilliant dialogue and performances and a story to wrap all the madness around.  Rarely bettered.

The opening helicopter shot is great. Zooms right in on the girl just before she jumps. Must have been hard to get the timing right.

I love this movie, Riggs and Murtaugh, my favorite buddy movie, and one of my favorite movies anyways
I'M TOO OLD FOR THIS SHIT'
I am real cop, this is a real badge and this is a real fuckin' gun- RIGGS
Is there anyone you've met you haven't killed? MURTAUGH
I haven't killed you yet- RIGGS
You're not tryin' to draw psycho pension... you really are crazy MURTAUGH
I'm... hungry I'm goin' to get something to eat RIGGS
That's pretty thin MURTAUGH
With your wife's cookin' I can see why RIGGS
Why can't I smoke a joint and drink a beer? RIANNE
Because at this point alcohol is legal grass ain't MURTAUGH
There's so many great scenes in this movie, one I really like is where RIGGS gets the jumper off the roof
The part where Mel's running down sunset boulevard with a gun over his shoulder
Mel and Danny's escape from the bad guys
Gary Busy is Mr. Joshua
When RIGGS and MURTAUGH first meet
The underlying sexual tension between RIGGS and MURTAUGH'S daughter RIANNE (it's there folks)
The fact that Mel still sounds Australian a bit in this movie

There is a small scene in the Director's Cut which I love - Riggs picks up a Street Hooker and pays her to 'come home and watch the Three Stooges with me'. it just shows what a lonely, burnt out guy he was and how he's detached from female companionship after his wife's death.

I may have watched it when I was really young but all I remember are little bits here and there. I did try and watch it properly a few years back when it was on TV but something or another interrupted me.

I have seen Loaded Weapon many times though.

I like the director's cut as well, this is my favorite Gibson character by far. Martin Riggs is like a time bomb ready to go off and Gibson (for a while) makes the audience thinks he is actually crazy. I have seen this movie so many times I have it memorized. It's just one of those that I can watch over and over again.

No, it zooms to the window where we see her on the bed then cuts to an interior shot. She takes some drugs, stumbles about with an open top, then climbs up on the balcony, it's not done in one shot

This sums of my thoughts best. The only thing that irks me slightly is the mistake when the handcuffs break and Riggs and the jumper have to hold each others hands
