guilty of what, exactly?

you put forward no argument so is it just the case of, yes its shite, so it's guilty of being so?

personally i thought it was good. it might have been a bit on the cheesy side but so were the other movies, and the comics for that matter.

ok, Brandon Routh wasn't really up to much i suppose. but he didn't have to do a lot of real acting, just posing mostly.

still, overall a enjoyable romp so in other words, not guilty.

Vastly inferior to the original

Missing the romance, storyline and wit of the other Superman movies

Too long, music was lacking, could do with some editing, needs to be cut more

Poorly cast

Way over budget becoming one of the most expensive films ever made and flopped at the box office

The Daily Planet looked a glum, dull zone filled with corporate idiots

Added to much camp and religion into it

Very little dialogue in the movie

adding a zombified Brando into the film was a waste of time

Lack of screen presence and charisma from the characters

Not Fun

Not Guilty.

Didnt deserve the 5 star review it got, but was not guilty for crimes against cinema.

Enjoyable and a strong performance from Kevin Spacey. Areas that let it down were a weak lois and super kid.

Great set piece with the plane and love the eye shot.

The fact it's been forgotten by almost everyone on the planet shows how poor this film was.

The best part of this film was the opening credits.

It went downhill from there.

I was just watching an animated Superman called Superman: Doomsday (2007) with my young cousin and I've got to say this was ten times more thrilling than Superman Returns, even though this was clearly a made for DVD affair and only 80 mins long.

Granted it's mostly action but it's still kick ass fun, and there's a cameo from Kevin Smith making a joke about a giant robot spider.

There have been other threads on this film in the past that I've vented my spleen on so I'll just say GUILTY for the reasons that I was bored and I didn't come to the cinema for a superhero chick flick with an unlikeable heroine, a dull premise, a stalker for a hero and - a superkid so nauseating I wanted to stick Kryptonite down his throat until he started passing glowing green pellets out the other end.

NOT GUILTY . Though it does lack a bit of pace , Lex Luthor should have been more manic and Lois could have been a bit more..... well Margot Kidder .

Not Guilty.  Not even close to being guilty.

I thought it was a tremendous film that effortlessly conveyed the power and majesty of the main character.  In my opinion it's brilliant and fully deserving of it's 5 star review.

Not Guilty at all.  No it wasn't as good as it could have been and yes Lois Lane was rubbish.  But it was still imensely entertaining, with great effects and a great performance from Kevin Spacey.

Is this a cartoon, Tech? Or a straight to DVD effort?
Why do you think this works and Superman Returns (which I disliked) doesn't?

Yeah, it's a cartoon movie but it was so damn fun.

I watched it with my little cousin and loved every animated frame.

I think it captured the mood of a Superman movie better than Singer's melodrama.

This is from a huge Superman fan...GUILTY!

Where to start?

  • Poor implementation of CGI
  • A film that forgot it was supposed to be a Summer Blockbuster.
  • if you want intelligent, then don't make a film with so many plotholes
  • Superman gets stabbed by a pencil-dick sized piece of Kryptonite and cries like a baby, but then lifts a HUGE mountain of the stuff two scenes later?!?
  • the kid
  • no exciting action scenes (No, I don't think lifting heavy things are action scenes)
  • poorly written Clark Kent
  • his chemistry with Lois Lane just didn't feel right. I thought her scenes with James Marsters were better.
  • should have dropped the homage to 70's Superman and started with a clean slate. Bring Superman up to date for a new audience, while maintaining the integrity of the character.

Maybe not guilty of crimes against cinema, but still dull, overlong and poorly-written. Can anyone tell me if there's still gonna be a sequel?

Not Guilty in the slightest. Not a 5 star film admittedly, but still good fun all the same.

Not Guilty, just not as good as the original two. Miles better than 3 and 4. Loved the plane scene and the opening credits with Brando's voice over gave me goosebumps
