I like Giroud but there's nothing like putting pressure on him to come good quickly is there? Only Giroud and Chamakh as out and out strikers? Bloody shocking....What makes it worse is that Spurs did really good business. Lloris and Dempsey for less than £20M?

I was pretty impressed with Arsenal against Liverpool - you can see why they aren't conceding as well, they don't give away too many chances and when something opens up your defence jumps on it quick. As the commentators were saying Diaby looked brilliant and he should be a key player if he stays fit. Giroud looks a bit slow out of your new signings though, he might find it tough in the PL

Exactly what we needed after the depressing end to the window - looked a bit shaky early on but dominated the game after the goal. Arteta and Cazorla were the standouts for me, and the defence put in another brilliant performance. I've been critical of Diaby but he was fantastic today - his attacking passing is still too slow at times for my liking, but he was a beast in the tackle and helped dictate the tempo of the game. Will be interesting to see A) if he's able to keep it up in the next few games and B) what happens when/if Jack comes back. (see also - Mertesacker/Kos and Jenks/Sagna)

Big clamour last year to tighten up Defense. Winger brings Bould in and it seems to be doing the job.

Still got an RvP sized hole up front, but it looks like it'll all come together

Arsenal only team left with 100% clean sheets.

Diaby did look good in the highlights but I'm still counting down the days until he breaks down again.

I saw Steve Bould sitting there but didn't put 2+2 together. What's really impressive is that the typical Arsenal attacking style hasn't been sacrificed - it's like magic

I love you Steve Bould. We're looking a lot more solid and Vermaelen was great as usual. Arteta and Diaby doing a lot of good breaking down play as well. We're still not creating a whole lot of clear cut chances but we're improving definitely. Happy for Podolski and Santi, I still think Giroud will come good, he just hasn't had the delivery that Van Persie would have been used to.

Also, Diaby. Like a new signing.

Letting Arshavin go on a free. Not wholly unsurprising. But it is interesting how hard some clubs seem to have found it to move players on this summer. Funny how players don't just fall out of favour in their own clubs, but seem to become quite unwanted at all.

He'll be more influential as the years go on, just needs to be a little more patient at Barcelona.

aaand it begins again http://www.irishtimes.com/sports/soccer/2012/0906/1224323673746.html

why does he come out with statements like this right now, when morale is relatively high and we're playing well? (the club was preparing to offer him a new contract last week..)

I agree. Its like he was asleep all this time and now he's awake all of a sudden and going ''hey everybody, where the fuck is RvP and Song? Sold? Fuck me sideways! I'm going to the motherfucking press!''

Crap timing.

Pfft. He'll be lucky to get back in the team anyway the way Jenko is playing!

Since I'm already bored of this international break, I'm going to repeat a popularly recycled fun fact about a number of prominent Arsenal strikers -

Thierry Henry's first goal for Arsenal came against Southampton FC, after nine appearances,
Dennis Bergkamp's first goal for Arsenal came against Southampton FC, after eight appearances,
While scoring on his debut against Leicester City, Ian Wright's first league goal for Arsenal came against Southampton FC,
and Robin van Persie's first league goal for Arsenal came against Southampton FC.

Wonder how many times we will hear the same thing about Wilshere.

Thank goodness the International break is over with. Watching England being rescued by a Lampard penalty is depressing.
