I've ordered it. Unlimited with talk so it's costing me no extra than it did having broadband seperate with O2. I feel a bit bad because O2 have been great and their customer service is fantastic but the lure of Anytime+ and the brainchild of some Sky marketing pleb was too much to resist. Apparently it will be transferred over next Friday....

I've recently become a proud Sky subscriber and am enjoying the luxery of Sky+. Quick question though - I watched Harry Brown which I recorded and the picture quality was pretty poor. I was wondering if this is because it was recorded rather that watched 'live', or maybe it's just the film. I'm sure when I've flicked onto the movie channels they haven't been as bad. Or is it a ploy to get me to upgrade to HD?

I seem to remember the Harry Brown DVD being poor quality as well. Dodgy sound etc.

So has anyone got the larger Sky HD box? I think it's 1TB. Apart from a brief moment just after Christmas when I had 100% free on my normal box I'm pretty much constantly running at around 10% free. On the edge as it were, and the box is starting to play up a little I was thinking of getting the larger one. Is it much better?

We've got the 1TB box and it hasn't dropped below around 65% yet. I've got loads of films and TV shows recorded on it, plus my mum has Deal or No Deal, Corrie and Eggheads recording EVERY FUCKING DAY and its not a problem.

What does everyone think of the new EPG?

I think it looks nice and refreshing, not used any new features yet and not sure if they'll be much use.

The only thing I don't like is the extra screen after selecting a genre (eg. Kids). It's only an extra button press to get to the listings but sometimes my fingers are on autopilot when finding cartoons for the little lass in the morning. I'm sure I'll adapt and survive.

The 1TB box is an enticing prospect, considering I had to cancel the recording of some programmes to make sure I could record all the rest for the three weeks I'm away. But 99 for existing customers seems a bit much! Also, I suppose you have to watch everything you've already got saved on your first box before you install the new one or you'll lose it all.

Ours turned up about a fortnight after Chief made the post above so I don't think it can have been a single software DL to update everyone at once.

Yeah, it got rolled out to the forward thinkers first. The slightly more 'backward' should have it now.

If you still haven't got it, well, I'm not sure what to say really apart from be careful with those crayons and don't get spaghetti hoops all over your nice clean corrective shoes.

Yes.  It has only been rolled out to certain box types initially and the rest will get it very soon.  The current rollout has finished so if you haven't got it yet then I guess you'll get it in the next wave.

Unfortunately yes, you'll lose everything if you swap boxes.  Something that is being looked at but not for a while

Can you DL the hard drive to another piece of non-Sky equipment?

If not, I put everything via a DVD recorder so I could still watch it in my own time the one time I had a problem that didn't wipe the progs!

Update to the Sky+ app on the iPad to day for the new Sky+ HD boxes only.  Turns your iPad in to a remote.  You'll also be able to see your recordings and view the planner from the iPad as well.

Not sure how much use it will be (I'm more interested in the ability to watch recorded programmes on the iPad but that's for another release hopefully) as I reckon I'll still use the standard remote but like the idea of seeing the planner seperately.

You won't if you don't have the new Sky+ HD box, it was only rolled out to the new Amstrad boxes recently   Other models are getting the new EPG at the end of the year.  If you've got one of the really old Thomson boxes they won't be getting it at all.

Oh right. I have no idea what it is, just that it's black and it's a HD box  I'm not in any rush, I just wondered about it because now the Sky Info page keeps talking about it.

It's not really done much other than squashed more channels on to a page as far as I can see tbh. And you need to clicks for something rather than one. Still prefer our old one - fortunately our other box isn't Sky plus so it should never change (never breaks down either, unlike the 5 HD boxes we've gone through since we changed - our old box is about 14 years old I think).

If you let me know the version number I can find out when you'll get it (if you want - it will probably start 4F...)

Mines a Samsung. Haven't got it yet. Can't see me using the iPad as a remote, seems a bit pointless. The prospect of using it to watch recorded programmes however.....

Also thinking of getting multiroom installed in the bedroom, might get the 1TB box for 50 whilst I'm at it because I'm finding the normal HD box is increasingly not big enough and having to record in SD instead of HD to save space.

Funnily enough, today on our intranet it says the following

quote:

The remaining Sky+HD boxes models (DRX780, Samsung and Pace) are soon going to receive the new Sky Guide by the end of November starting from today.

Fingers crossed you get it sooner rather than later

Actually, just checking the calendar, it looks like the Samsung might be done next week.

Edit: Oh, and they don't do a 1TB box anymore, it's 2TB now

Right Hobbs, seeing as your an insider, what's the skinny on current deals or is there anything in the pipeline?

I've just cancelled HD as I don't have Sports or Movies (and that's where HD is worth it IMO) and I'm currently on the Entertainment Plus package (I think it's called) and paying about 27 per month. Sky Broadband is unavailable in my area so that's out.

What's the best way for me to get more bang for my buck? ie. Sports/Movies/HD/Multi-Room for not a lot more money?

If you hang on for a bit, we get deals for friends and family every few months (they seem to be better for customers that don't have certain packages - ie new customers or those on basic packages that don't already have sports or movies) and I can forward the details to an email address next time I get a deal should you be interested!

All I do, when the details come through, is send an invite to an email address and then you go through the offer and see if it is worth it or not for you.  No obligation!
