It's more fun than Death Proof, but both films suffer greatly by being screened individually. The whole Grindhouse debacle has been a great pity, film fans should lament that such an interesting experiment was so poorly received. Anyway, let's just hope and wait for Sin City 2 and Inglorious Bastards to erase the memory.

I was lucky enough to see Grindhouse as it was meant to be shown way back at Easter while on holiday in Hawaii. Planet Terror is brilliant. Graphic, funny and not to be taken seriously at all. After having watched the film plus more trailers we sat down to watch the pile of dogshit more commonly known as Deathproof. What a boring film. The new cut is even duller with an extra 30 mins of actionless drivel. You can get both films from the states already so i wouldnt bother seeing either of them at the cinema as its pointless without the whole grindhouse experience. Import or download Planet Terror and avoid Deathproof at all costs, For empire to give deathprood a higher rating is criminal.

just 3 stars from empire.. shame on you! this is without a doubt the most fun any fan of 80s exploitation films can possibly have. the synth score, the hammy acting, the scatched/dusty film print... truely inspired! while i loved death proof.. this is MUCH more what i expected to see from the "grindhouse" concept, and rodriguez delivers on every level. i urge you all.. go see this film asap, you owe it to yourselves, its just too much fun to miss.

It's balls-to-the-wall, break-neck fun soaked in gratuitous violence, schlocky comedy and retro-esque cinematography. Simply the best of "Grindhouse."

Here in Holland we didn't get the Grindhouse experience but both screened individually and (without having seen in the way it was meant to be seen) I fucking loved both. Haven't had so much fun in a long time at the cinemas.

The only question that I have is...why does he collect balls!!
Ok it's pretty nasty that fits the film perfectly but how about an explanation :)

So its November and the Grindhouse fiasco is still ever present,1st we didnt get the full GH experience,so that easily must have led to one of the most bootlegged and downloaded movies ever, with the media coverage and interest in GH working overtime, with rumours abounding everywhere, then Cannes comes along and the recut extended death proof premiering there, then its underwhelming at the box office and along comes the better half of the mismatched marriage of death proof and planet terror, shooting themselves in the foot again with this, most cinemas arent running it as death proof didnt do anything, and anyone with a credit card will have bought them both on R1 import to watch in the comfort of a home cinema,so why did they bother, i guess its almost out of duty, cant be seen to favour one director over the other and with halloween passing by and saw4 and 30 days of night strong contenders for the halloween £ its out and unleashed onto big screens only try finding one showing it .
still its go go not cry cry!
the 4 stars is for the film and a big - nil points for the weinsteins.

I really enjoyed it and was glad to get to see it as my local cinema isnt showing yet, if at all. Rose McGowan looks amazing as do most of the female cast. This film is funny, gorey and just a damn good nights easy viewing. I preferred this to Death Proof but would have loved to see it as it was meant to be. Defintely gonna be buying this. Best film in Texas!

Haven't had that much fun in a long time, hammy acting... check, hot girls... check, 80s icons... check , 1,2,3 exploding head shots... check! While Death proof started off well and failed to deliver in the 2nd half(despite Kurt Russell's sneers) Planet Terror rocked all the way to the credits!!!

the trailers look amazing and very exciting, rose mcgowen has made a new sci-fi icon to the genre and seems to have come a long way since her charmed days plus she is in a smaller role in tarantinos death proof.
however out of the two planet terror looks like it is the better one but i cant judge til' i have seen them both (shame that they cant be released at the same time coz death proof is out on DVD first).

*** SPOILERS ***

I thought this film was really entertaining and while it's not a work of genius by any means, in terms of having a good time it pissed on Death Proof. There are loads of disgusting, blood spattering, pus oozing moments for gore fans plus some good shoot outs to boot as well.

Character wise Rose McGowan stood out for me as the gorgeous gun-legged stripper, she is just quite plainly FIT! (even with one leg)

I don't agree with Empire that this movie suffers from being separated from it's Grind House brother - it's simply a superior film because it doesn't have Death Proof's  pretensions.

One thing I will say is that Tarantino needs to give up acting because he is shit. Everytime he appears on our screens he stands out like a sore thumb in my opinion (and this is going back to Resevoir Dogs).

It's immense, entertaining fun in an Evil Dead 2 kind of way and is right up there with Ravenous for being completely and totally demented. I don't think it quite mtches those two films yet, but a few more viewers may change that perception dramatically!

I'm currently wading through my not-yet seen DVDs with autistic determination (I'm, one of them fuckers who buys 5-10 at a time and leaves them for months before slapping them on).

After Battle Royale II - Evil Dead 1 is next. Seen the second one, but it was about 10 years ago and I was bladdered. I'll do them both on the trot...

Funny, Scary, Gory. This was way better than Death Proof. I don't understand why people think that Tarantino's was better. Rose McGowan is perfectly cast. Both an excellent parody and a loving homage to 70s sci-fi. The casting is genius--Josh Brolin must always play a villian from now on. Shelton is great and even the smaller supporting roles are phenomemally cast and played. Music rocks and special effects are terrific. Why won't the Oscars nominate something like this instead of pretentious crap?

There's gonna be a Sin City two? *shocked* When ,who, why, wat happens?????
I love Sin city, but sequels are dangerous terrtory.... e.g. Matrix, Alien. IS QT gonna be a guest director again?

Oh yeah Planet terror is the better film out of the Grindhouse but I think they should of released Grindhouse and not seperate as two different films because seperate they are not top notch films that I'd expect from the directors. It would of been groovy together, I mean they share some of the same actors so it would be like psychodelic(ish)

I'm still sure that Empire have mixed up the ratings for this and Death Proof. That can be the only explanation surely? Well, apart from the fact that to criticise a QT movie goes against everything the mag stands for.

This is great fun.  It's exactly what you would expect from a rodriguez zombie flick.  Come on Empire, how could it get less stars than Death Proof?

Wow, I was amazed of how much I enjoyed this movie. At first, I was a little afraid in case anything jumped out but my fears were put aside and I joined in with the hot ride. Blood, Guts and Gore aplenty in this one, I like it. I liked the spoof trailer at the begining, very funny! The perfomaces werrn't bad either, Bruce Wills as the cool dude with serious facial problems and Josh Broiln as the hot but creepy doctor making his wife's life hell. In all, a fine and bloody good fun. Not for anyone who dosn't like blood or lots of violence.

A bit of a mess to say the least, and not as good as Death Proof, but still it does what it says on the tin and i found it decent enough in the end.

It's not perfect by any stretch of the imagination - as the original review said, Bruce is underused and the scene with Rodriguez' son is just in bad taste. But a few flaws aside, Planet Terror is exactly what it set out to be - cheesy, entertaining fun. A more enjoyable watch than QT's effort, Planet Terror cements Robert Rodriguez' position as OTT pulp director du jour. Plus, the Machete trailer was awesome...
