I hate to say it but i can't see how it would work. Spaced is such a British sitcom, with subtle humour and low budget film parodies. Americans like it smooth, polished and well, with obvious humour. Its just wrong.

 Ok, all blasphemy aside, this is still a major mistake. It completely confirms America's inability to deal with anything new or original. And anything that is in the category of programming is thrown about the time slots and played on the completely wrong channels (Arrested Development, Knights of Prosperity etc.). Hopefully Gramsci will attack McG while he is walking home one night and it will put a stop to this nonsense.

 I don't know, McG was involved in new series Chuck, and that really gets geeks.

Also, this would have to be American based geekery, not British, which is quite different really, so I can understand why they'd buy the concept but have to rework it for an American market.

Also, I don't get why you care, its not like it effects the original Spaced (apart from probably making Wright and Pegg a load of cash).

Appalling idea, especially without Pegg or Wright involved - and they apparently haven't even been asked. How rude!
The Yanks do have form when it comes to cocking up cracking UK shows. See: Cracker, Coupling (had a certain naive charm), and I personally have my doubts about the upcoming Life on Mars remake.
As for casting...you've got to think a Bilbo natural would be Kevin Smith. He has at least recently shown a penchant for TV with Battlestar Galactica, Reaper and Heroes. Plus, geeky - comic book knowledge, overweight and beard. He's a natural.
