Heres the deal right Dont watch it! Simple as that. Spaced was (and is) an absolute classic piece of British comedy genius. Buy the DVD's and watch em over and over again. Okay so there is no point remaking it for US TV but so what if they do. If it works (not likely) good. But if, as is most likely, they completely screw it up, so what. Watch the DVD's again with a smug grin on your face and thank God for Pegg, Wright, Frost, Stevenson et al.

Here's an idea - just don't watch it. Any remake of a film or TV show doesn't make the original somehow worse y'know.

I'm confused as to what the two 'extremely funny films' are. Shaun is one...and the other......?

ORIGINAL: Timon

Oh and Edgar Wright has chimed in via his MySpace page and I don't think it bodes very well:

The interesting part of that is, no-one has been in touch with me at all. Haven't deigned to get in contact. So my involvement is indeed very unclear.

At least The Office had the support of Gervais and Merchant.

Surely they'd need their permission, even if it's just a common courtesy, since they were the initial creators of Spaced? It'd never get the seal of approval no matter how good it could be (I use that sentence loosely) if Pegg, Wright or Frost don't give it their blessing.

The thing is, certain things should NEVER be remade. Ever.

It's not a question of just remaking a show, it's the magic of it, the characters and the way everything gelled. You can't capture that. You can try and copy it, but what made SPACED so good was that they were all friends having a laugh and it showed.

The american remake of the office was pointless. I turned it off (not because of the quality) but purely because I'd already seen it.. it's just boring. As for spaced being remade, I can imagine it will turn out the same. Why bother?

I can't believe Mcshit, I mean Mcg is doing an American version. Its going to be lame and probably consist of fart jokes and have to very attractive leads knowing how American networks operate. Probably after every episode there will be a life affirming ending. McG = Tosser!

I think I speak for most of the fans of Spaced, Shaun, Hot Fuzz when I say:
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!
I've caught McG's latest TV show Chuck and while its not utter dirge like Charlies Angels 2 was it isn't a patch on anything Simon, Jessica and Edgar put into their fantastic show.
Further proof - if any were needed that US TV is seriously lacking original ideas - with the exception of Pushing Daises.

lets just hope it turns out like the american versions of red dwarf, coupling and men behaving badly. a pilot gets made, sucks something awful and dissapears into the ether only to return to be laughed at by people who realise just what a fucking stupid idea it was.

Part of Spaced's charm was that it was intercut with very british, nostalgic references that would have only been relevant to a certain age group at the time (grange hill, rhubarb and custard etc). The whole point is that Simon and Jessica's characters thought they were still "with it" but were actually being left behind. None of that is going to translate across the pond. And no one is going to beat Jessica Stevenson copying Bruce Willis' smirk in the Pulp Fiction scene from S2E1.

... please leave it alone! The funny thing about this is that i love everyone involved with OUR Spaced ( Hot Fuzz is brill!), yet i had never managed to watch the show itself.... until last night when i watched both dvds back to back 'til 1 this morn. I wet myself (nearly) and I gotta say to the Yanks in the style of Tim and Daiz "FUCK OFF!"

Leave it alone. After reading about the Akira remake plans I was pissed - but this has left me absolutely seething! Just re-broadcast the original! Is that too hard to do?!!?!! And if anyone has any questions about the ability of the Septics to mess up a perfectly good show I give you Men Behaving Badly - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0115265/

McG? Uwe Boll would have been better...well, maybe not...but you get the idea. If Pegg, Hynes and Wright give their permission and, at some point in the future, they say something like 'well, it's going pretty well,' then i might MIGHT be happy about it...but it just seems unfair somehow

This could turn out to be a pretty good show provided they actually develop engaging storylines and don't rely too heavily on film references like Spaced did!

How is Spaced "positively grimy"? It's a really slick show. It's always looked really polished to me, definitely not grimy.

Why do the Americans need to remake everything. Have they not realised that we speak the same language as them?

To put it politely, McG, please fuck off and die. I normally don't have a problem with US remakes of our TV, American Office had Steve Carrell after all. But this is one show that should never be touched. Ever. Now just gimme a minute to come up with a good Spaced quote that would go well with this...

i swear to god empire, will you just stop being the harbinger of bad news? everytime i log in you tell me about the karate kid remake, or how brett ratner may/may not be remaking escape from new york! of course, thats when you're not making schoolboy spelling and grammar errors! and now this! what did i do to you? pack it in! from now on i only want to hear about lucas apologising about star wars re-do's, or how ridley scott has been given lots of cash to make a new film and other such cheery stories!

.....does it?

Let the yanks do what they want, I couldn't give a flying fuck. It won't alter my love for the one and only, proper version of spaced one miniscule iota.

So go ahead- worst case: sinks without trace, best case: gets some more people into the original. Win-win in my book....

Fucking hell this is bad, especially as its McG Fiver says it stars Adam brody (playing Seth from the OC) and some blonde bimbo as Tim and Daisy (which no doubt will also be changed)

As for the Grimy thing? I think empire meant that Spaced isnt about cool, unfeaseabley attractive people in big appartments that no one in the real world could afford. While Spaced was about average looking, poor people who all lived in what was basically one step up from a bedsit.
