Been a while since i read any fantasy so this one is next up.

What did you think of The Earthsea Quartet?

I have read (and apologies as I have neither the time nor the inclination to shop around for pictures of books- you can't judge a book by its cover and all that {unless it's Kerry Katona's debut novel}) the following novels recently:

Perfume by Patrick Suskind;
Chess by Stefan Zweig;
Falconer by John Cheever;
The Wall Jumper by Peter Scneider;
The Real Life of Sebastian Knight by Vladmir Nabakov;
The Road by Cormac McCarthy.

I am currently battling my way through the quartet of novels by Christine Brooke-Rose (Out, Such, Between, Thru); I won't pretend that my language skills are so advanced that I am able to extract more from these novels than the appreciation of the writer's wit and lyrical dexterity. I think that the finer points escape me, but it's a thick tome that will look good on my bookshelves.

Bought quite a few recently. Denis Lehanes "A Drink before the War" and "Darkness take my hand" a two in one book (worth reading btw), then his other one Sacred.
Also Christopher Priests "The Seperation", getting interesting. And today James Ellroys "Dudley Smith" trilogy, after seeing LA Confidential last night decided to get LA Confidential but three for 10 was a good deal.

 I've read this before and it's one of my favourite books and I wondered why I didn't actually own a copy, so I ordered it from Play.com. I've also paid and am waiting for this one to arrive:

Being a bit behind the times (and guilty of being one for getting caught up in hype) I've just gone out and bought the His Dark Materials books.  Started reading a borrowed copy of Northern Lights years ago but ran out of spare time while I was at uni.  Now looking forward to reading them properly - got 6 days off work now so can't wait to make a bit of a dent in them!

I thought the book was pretty good, even though it was about 300 pages long.  Enjoyed the film too.

Have you started this one yet? It's very good

I've bought this for my brother for Christmas but will probably borrow it from him when he's read it

I've just bought Bravo Two Zero. I have been looking for it for a while and it was in Sainsburys last weekend. About 100 pages in so far and a pretty decent read.
