I know it is just World of Warcraft in different clothes but it has some nice touches like the Epic Storyline and you get to meet and in some cases fight along side some of the main characters from the book. Anyone else on here play?

I think the reason it's not doing very well is that it's not just WoW in other clothing

I didn't think anyone was going to reply.   I played WoW briefly about a year ago on one of those 14 day free trials and it seems very similar. Is there a big difference?

Not doing very well? There are 11 servers in the US and 9 in the EU (iirc). I know the US servers all very well populated and the EU servers are all doing very well on population. I wouldn't say LotRO isn't doing well.

Janitor, I play on the Laurelin server.

Relax, I was just tub thumping for WoW. I should have said it's not doing as well; I think it has around 300,000 players compared to over 9 million for WoW. It does look like fun though.

The main difference as far as I'm aware is in raiding. WoW is very much geared toward end game raiding in parties of 10, 25 or 40 and there are a coupel of dozen dungeons to raid in.

I am currently using the Evernight server. I have teamed up with some good people on there and itís been good fun. I could see it quickly descending into a statistically black hole though.

Yeah I've been reading about that. It looks good. In fact it looks great. But, and itís a big but, it seems to be almost entirley PvP based, which is not my cup of tea at all. Last thing I need after a hard day at work is to be killedÖ.sorry pwned (wtf?) 20 times by some 12 year old.

I think I'll have a look to see what it's all about though.

I actually loaded it up yesterday and played through the first couple of missions. Seems ok. Also played some WoW up to Lvl 5 and Champions Online through the tutorial.

I've been banished from the lounge (home of the 360) so my wife can catch up on Hollyoaks and ironing, hence the MMO sessions...

Just started playing this in the last few weeks. Been a long time WoW player but I fancied a change of scene - really enjoying it!
The animations and some of the character models are a bit shonky but the landscapes are stunning

Here's a link to the main site:
http://www.lotro.com/

It was something like a 7 Gb download if memory serves

It's a very different beast to what WoW has become - no flying, many old-school quests, elite mobs are still very much elite (as I painfully discovered the other night), levelling up takes time and effort.
Makes a nice change!

I've re-started playing this as it is now available on Steam for Mac. I'm enjoying it and I suppose one of the main appeals of the game is not being tied down by a subscription fee. Middle-Earth looks great in the game as well.
