Am coming to the end of shooting on my feature film, THE DIVIDER, scheduled wrap early December I reckon given the availability of actors and free weekends etc.

www.thedivider.com

Update on news, from a Empire Forum perspective, there is much involvement with the film...

  • HQ is working with me on the PR / Marketing aspects of the film
  • Ninj has agreed to complete artwork for me
  • Snake Eyes and Lukeyboy are both acting in it.

A massive thank you gang, a major personal to have close friends working with me on it.

The film will be released next year.

Been managing my website whilst juggling university commitments.

I'm stuck in Oxford 98% of the time and all the screenings are in London, so if there's anyone here who likes watching and writing about films, and would enjoy attending press screenings, then let me know!

Just finished up on the main feature for my Grimm up North 2011 coverage.

Still got the interviews to sort out though.

Enjoyed the coverage from Grimm Up North!

We are currently helping a local journalist/web content consultant to start up a independent film makers festival for the North east of Scotland

https://www.facebook.com/pages/I-Am-Do-Filmmaker/182809855133930

Looking forward to helping out on it. The guy that is doing it came along to our first weekend of filming and documented it for us. He is putting the footage together so we can release it in 2min chunks over a period of time.

As for The Dying Seconds I finished the teaser trailer last night and it is off to get the music added and audio cleaned up. We are premiering it on Halloween at a venue in Aberdeen and will have it up on the net shortly after.

Back from Hollywood and quite exhausted.

Got a visitor's pass onto the Universal back lot and pretended I was lost just to get into the DreamWorks offices (on Amblin Drive!). Didn't make any deals but got plenty of industry contacts and a lot of enthusiasm. Original scripts are hard to sell so perhaps these recommendations can lead to a rewrite gig or something on one of the many remakes in development.

Going back in April next year.

So what happened exactly? No wanted to make the scripts at the moment and that was that? It's tough but you gotta just stick with it. What happened regarding the rewrites, did they say they would be in touch regarding some work? A lot of peeps start out with rewrite work etc. Either way, win win.

I met with several companies who read Progeny and some other scripts and discussed other story ideas I'm working on. They all requested those treatments so they've been forwarded.

Also met a potential director who works for a well known visuals effects company. He loved Progeny and gave a few notes to consider. If he comes on board we can shop Progeny as a package.

I'm happy to do any paid rewrites but I think it's just a waiting game to see what becomes available. I did hear word of a remake of a certain 80s science fiction film that I think I could pull off.

Had a great five hour session at my friends studio last night tidying up the music and audio for the trailer. Added bonus I also got a five hour lesson in using Ableton 8 (only down side is that I got to bed about 0100 and I had to get up for work at 0600). Not long now until Monday night when we show the trailer.

I don't think I could ever move over there, unless I was being paid a lot of money. I think I can write better from where I am now, away from all the business. The major downside is I'm not meeting people face to face on a regular basis.

Just had a few very humbling days at the London Screenwriter's Festival. Some genuinely brilliant writers out there who'll probably never get produced. Some writers with numerous optioned scripts, produced projects, working with big producers, but who still feel the need to attend these kinds of events. Humbling and just a little bit depressing!

Where's the bloke who is doing 'Strippers vs Werewolves?' Does he still come on here? Can't wait to see that.

I actually had the chance to have a chat with him about Strippers vs Werewolves.

That's an interview with him as well as the trailer for the movie! Hope that helps.

Whilst the movie isn't my sort of thing, kudos to the filmmakers for seeing it through.

Re Prophet, it shouldn't be depressing but inspiring that writers are still fighting their way forward. It's very easy to give up.

For sure. Met a guy at a writers finalist competition, he won.  He'd had minor success in theatre and scripts as far as many his age had and had been writing for 5 years or so, he was very candid about how many times he has been dubbed the next so and so and how many competitions and meeting he had that thus far have been relatively fruitless.  He didn't care though, it's what he loved to do and I took alot from that.

Great to see some never say die attitudes on here from people who have obviously kept chipping away and made some progress at it.  There's so much bitterness and negativity out there in some circles.

Maybe you're right. I come at it from the producer's perspective and seeing some great scripts and great writers just plugging away year after year, knowing that a lot of them won't make it, I find that hard to rationalise. For writer (and of course actors) it seems so much a lottery to me.

Our micro budget, Aberdeen based Comedy/Horror movie was signed at the American Film Market and has been confirmed for UK DVD/Blu-Ray release. So happy and not bad for a bunch of mates with a Canon 5D Photography camera.

Good stuff Jim! How have you found editing a trailer?

Well it feels like a lifetime since I screened the trailer for The Dying Seconds and a lot has happened since. Due to schedules and personnel circumstances of some of the cast and crew filming is postponed for the rest of the film until next year.
But not is all lost. After the screening my friend that owns the venue we were in handed me a business card from a guy who was in the audience. The gentleman had asked for whoever made the trailer to get in touch. Unfortunately I ended up in A&E the next day and out of it on drugs for the remainder of the week due to a bust elbow. I woke from my slumber one night remembering about the card and panicking because I had not emailed or called him. So long story short- met up, had a chat and he has offered me an sum of money to help produce a short film. No string attached, I get to make whatever I want and all he wants is drop in and out of meetings and see how the entire process works. So I have begun work on a script (first draft completed last weekend) and I have started to get a team together.
No it is not tens of thousands he has offered but considering I have never worked with a budget before and any little helps this is big stuff for me and something I never thought would happen. Time to get stuck I and go for. Happy days
