I thought that I should dust the cobwebs off this thread seeing as the sequel to one of the biggest horror movies was released recently... so who has seen Scream 4 and what did you think.
I unfortunately havent seen it yet however I am planning on watching it Sunday night. Also if anyone has watched any other horror movies recently then please feel free to write your view.

The Scream trilogy is now regarded as modern horror classics (well maybe not the third one) and this highly awaited fourth instalment is finally here. Last year there were talks of which actors/actresses were going to be in this film and to avoid spoilers I stopped listening to this news, and was even lucky enough not to have caught any trailers, thereby going into this movie totally unaware except knowing that Kevin Williamson was back and that everyoneís favourite Scream trio would be returning.

After more than a decade we return to Woodsburo, we pick up events in 2010/11 where everything has changed, from the rules of the horror genre right down to the way we communicate with each other on social networking sites such as Facebook. The opening of the movie is a great way to get things started along with seeing the original cast which was a delight. (not having re-watched the Scream trilogy before watching this one)

One of the good things about this type of movie is that this old school horror, yes there are your torture porn and handheld cam movies but slashers is a sub-genre reserved for remakes nowadays and a new slasher movie is either rubbish or not mainstream (if it turns out to be good), watching this film just gives you a sense of nostalgia and although this may just be because it is the Scream franchise its a good feeling nonetheless and isnít it awesome having them talking about real life horror movies in the film providing witty conversation, thanks to Kevin Williamson whose return ensures that the verbal sparring between friends in the movie is clever along with being funny.

Eventually we would have had to come to the negatives, thankfully there isnít many. The movie moves along at a fast pace and at times this is good as it keeps the action going, however it also means it does not slow down to let us connect with these new characters and therefore like many slashers gone before we do not care when characters are eventually killed off. The movie can also be criticised for almost being a replica of Scream, there are many similarities and even though it does try and do this in a tongue in cheek way it lacks the spark and charm of the original even down to the way the mystery unfolds.

At the end of the day this was never going to top the first two movies but it does beat the third one which is great news, I was worried that this wasnít going to be that good, but it does it ends up winning you over.

Overall Score -

Has any body seen Rest Stop with Jamie Alexander. Its a bit of a mess and not really original but Jamie Alexander delivers a strong performance as Nicole. The film leaves far too many questions unanswered.

Yes, I am indeed. You labeled me a 13 year old girl, therefore you are a 'Moron'.

Besides, have you even seen the Scream films? Or is it too difficult to view films from the inside of Sly Stallone's arse?

My favourites have to be:
Sleepaway Camp
Fright Night
Poltergeist
The Changeling
Misery
The Others
The Texas Chainswaw Massacre
The Prince of Darkness
Ringu
A Nightmare on Elm Street.

And here are a few that i have fond memories of, mainly because of particulary scenes that have been embedded in my memory, but haven't seen in a long while....
The Burning, with the Canoe massacre
The Fog, the score and of course the part on top of the lighthouse
The Fury, for some reason i always remember that lady getting spun in the air
Pet Semetry, of the the creepy sick sister
The People under the stairs, one of Wes Craven's best movies
In the mouth of madness, the creepy atmosphere throughout
The Exorcist 3, that scene in the hospital corridor, probably the biggest jump scene in horror history....

Yes but these are cheesy 70's lesbian playboy model vampires who can't act for toffee, not the sparkly twighlight virgin proto-rapist cunts!

You saying about Slasher movies, I've just remembered I recorded "Silent Night, Deadly Night" recently and also have a Bava boxset to make a start on, think I'll go with "A bay of blood" first....

Oh well in that case i'll watch it!

Love Silent Night, Deadly Night. Its sequel has to be seen to be believed. So wonderfully awful. A Bay of Blood is also wonderful, havent seen it in a while though

My little sister is 13 and she's just getting into horror films, which is cool because I can watch a load of my favourites with her. We've watched The Alien films, the Scream trilogy, Evil Dead 2, Nightmare on Elm Street. She's watched stuff like Saw and Texas Chainsaw Massacre (remake) with her friends. It's weird how people react to horror films, even after those films at a young age she insists that the scariest movie she's ever seen is Jeepers Creepers, which is one of the first she saw.

It's fun passing on your influences. Took the oldest to see Scream 4 the other week. And she was watching some of Friday the 13th part 3 with me the other day. I think she's developing an interest in slashers. She won't watch Freddy yet though!

I've never been a fan of Scream, it's one of the few more renown horror franchses that I just don't get.  I didn't even enjoy the original... clever idea, but I think I hated the cast, primarily.

P.s. I haven't posted here in some time, but this is the second topic I've read where Snake Eyes has been thumped with some form of Expendables related comment... I'm guessing he's a fan?

I think Snake Eyes and I get on great so I know he won't be offended when I say that the insulting comment above made me laugh out loud  That's twice I have seen SE lose it...the first one someone questioned did he actually own his movie collection on another thread!

And to answer your question?  SE is well known for being an action junkie!

Cruise my old mate, you dust down this thread now and again and then disappear

She turned 15 in feb. Although does look older and I got her into Predators and The Town, last year

I am pretty liberal with what the kids watch, but she hates anything with a sex scene in while watching a film with me and her mum. She hides her face and goes embarrassed. It's quite funny!

I let the youngest (10) watch 18's, but only if there's no tits and shagging! Although there is apparently a full frontal shot of inmates in the niff in Shutter Island (the kids like it) according to the wife, but I never noticed, nor did the kids. Good lighting on the DP's part I guess!

I've watched Robocop, Predator and Aliens with them. The little one likes Aliens because 'it has that little girl in it' . She didn't like Blade Trinity though. Good girl.

My oldest is 9 and he just started watching the action films, Predator, Rush Hour, Speed.......he is a wimp when it comes to horror, not following me at all!  My daughter is though......but a bit wary at the age she is on, even though I must have watched Halloween 100 times at her age!

Can I just say mate, OFF THE RECORD, great review on HCF.....thanks for doing it!

Back to this thread....watching Blood Cabin tonight, a new slash inspired by Friday 13th...its supposed to be awesome

Yes, I have seen it.

One or two decent kills - but mainly dull - should have been a bit more goofy.

NEEDLE is pretty good.  It is virtually a Slasher film but without the man in a mask.  It has the old "pin the dummy" horror trait not used anymore and that is why it comes across quite fresh.

Its lack of gore and more of the mind was a welcome suprise and even the "guess the Scream kind of Killer plot!" was well thought out.

I enjoyed it anyway
