Have to say that the picture from this in the Emma Stone article this week looks like it might appear very late on in the film what with all those injuries.

I'm thinking there might be a revelation of identity otherwise I'm curious to know how Parker explains those injuries

You'd also do well to go for 2008's 'Spectacular Spider-man' series. That was the balls, yet got cancelled after two short series. I might even go so far as to say that it's the best Spidey cartoon since 'The Amazing Spider-man and Friends' from the 80s: the show that introduced me to web-head.

I liked Raimi's two Spider-man films, not so much Avi Arad's Spider-man 3 though.

I would have been more interested in this new one if it wasn't a frakkin' reboot! Good director, good cast, some good visuals if they use the Mirror's Edge style first-person view in the final film, but a pointless waste of screen time to give us the origin again. And, while I think Andrew Garfield looks the part, yet again a man pushing 30 is cast as a high school Peter Parker. Just seems odd but it could've been worse: Taylor Lautner.

Dull and bland. More so, it reminds me of the teaser poster for spiderman 3 with the emblem that changed from the original costume to the symbiote, only this has Parkers silhoutte added. Also, "the untold story" is an awful, awful tagline. Hate sounding negative, but at the moment this will be one of those "what if" films, had Raimi and Maguire come back for a fourth, especially with it being so close before this was decided.

Something new is fine by me, wasn't a huge fan of the Raimi films (though enjoyed part 2), but the Untold Story line is just a bit pointless. Untold by who? Raimi's first film covered high school stuff, how he became spidey and intoduced Dr. Conners. This film takes those elements and puts a new 'spin' on it (pun intended), changing the Raimi story completely. If they made it a prequel of sorts, staying true to those films but showing unseen adventures, then it would make sense.

I'm guessing the untold story is Parker's parents. Although leaving out all the Nick Fury and Avengers connections.

Why that had to involve a complete retcon back to High-School, I have no idea. It could easily have been Spider-Man 4, using Garfield, ostensibly in the same movie continuity but sliding in all the Ultimate Spider-Man elements as wanted.

The Spiderman films to me, are, or were very good. The first was a fun, colourful and had a really enjoyable villain in The Green Goblin. Defoe was OTT certainly, but he was fun to watch. The 2nd film was an excellent comic book film. It had an excellent adversary, and excellent special effects. The only thing that ruined it was MJ's 'standing in your doorway' speech at the end: to bloody cheesy if you ask me! I quite liked the 3rd film, again the special effects work excellent, liked Sandman, but honestly did we need that many villains? It was too crowded. Too many characters crying out for screen time. Nonethless it was an ennjoyable film.

But...

The one thing that started getting a little tedious for me was Peter Parker. Or more rightly the actor POTRAYING Peter Parker. Yes, Toby Maguire. The guy is a wuss and cant go a whole film without bloody crying! Ha ha! I like my super hero's to be gritty, hard, like Batman (Bale) and Wolverine (Jackman - and i'm talking about Jackman in the first three films, NOT Wolverine which was bloody awful). But i guess you'll rightly say, its a teen flick, or a kiddie orientated movie. Thats why we have a 'soft' superhero. No, Toby Maguire is too soft hearted a character to potray a continuing arc for Spiderman convincingly.

That is why it'll be interesting to see a fresh take on Spiderman.

Hopefully, more gritty minus the cheese!

Possibly, but if this film wasnt currently in development I am sure Spiderman 4 will have been in progress instead. As I remember that film was so close to the greenlight before this new direction was set. I think John Malkovich had signed on already with Maguire and Raimi set to direct with the vulture possibly as the villain. And then it all went tits up!

I like the picture of the new spidey in full swing, it is quite exciting. If I am honest though I do prefer the bulkier look that Maguire had. I suppose the web shooter adds extra dynamic to the character in that he cant web sling everywhere and he will run out (kindof acknowledged in SM2) but its not that much of a major draw. The parents issue is becoming more and more an obvious thread that will be explored.

Its a spiderman film so I imagine it will do well but im just not very optimistic about returning to school again. Though SM3 wasnt the best superhero film the franchise was in full swing. Its definately half a step back in my eyes, though im not hoping it will tank!

I gotta admit it looks a lot better than I expected. Garfield looks pretty good as Spidey, totally nailing the wise-ass aspect of the character in that scene with the car thief. The reflexes and speed of Spidey seems much more 'super' here too, and I do like it. Having said that, Ryhs Ifans looks a bit dodgy to me, and I aint sold on the design of Lizard at all. But yea, looks pretty damn good.
