Just to say I did some research and I'm pretty sure that this project is nothing to do with Voltron. From what I have researched anyway.

Not pissing on anyone's parade I hope haha.

Yeah, I doubt it's Voltron. Like the idea of this Cthutu thingy though, although hopefully you never see all of it.

Yeah, had a quick squint thru the Cthulhu link in Wikepedia and some of it is either very coincidental or this is on the money - Stars, August etc. The Cthulhu could be some sort of reference to what they are doing tho, not exactly a Cthulhu movie itself, could be 'Host'. I would rule out Godzilla tho, cant see them keeping a movie like Godzilla under wraps for this long if its due out in January! Although, if the teaser trailer is just simply a promo/gimmick thing like the Transformers first teaser, and January is the date for the first proper trailer, suppose it could be Godzilla. Would it be entrusted to a practically unknown director tho?? Very exiting times i must say, not been a buzz about an unknown film like this in a very long time :)

Throwing another theory in to the mixer..... could this be a 'Lost' movie??

Another giant monster movie this time directed by the writer of Under Siege 2. Is it okay to not be remotely interested in this?

Right im onto the final puzzle now, and it looks by far the hardest!

How's anyone else getting on?

Also, have you seen the videos on youtube of people trying to properly disect this whole thing? Analysing the trailer etc...!  It's brilliant!

Ok, I'm doing my very best at the moment to translate the Sanskrit text on the Truth about Ethan Haas site.  It's taking me forever.

Basically in this I can recognise the words for "body", "appearance", "number", "signal", "cover up (as in conspiracy)" and "crowd".  I may be well out on those as I did Sanskrit at Uni but that was years ago!  Those are in a completely random order though and I can't make out the words either side.  My Sanskrit dictionary isn't proving to be much help though.  I'm sure there's bound to be someone here on Empire that can read it far better than me.

As awesome as all this is do you think we might see a Matrix  Revolutions level of dissapointment at the end of it? After the second film I was buzzing with theories and hit the internet (which is actually why I joined this forum). In the end I was sorely dissapointed and so many of the theories I read (or even had myself) ended up being better than what the Watchowski's actually delivered. Couldn't the same thing happen here? Might we be building it up so much that what we're left with can only be dissapointing?

Having said that, the end of season 3 of Lost knocked me for six so I have faith in Abrams and his ability to deliver on a promise. However, how much is he still invloved in Lost and the direction it's taking? I think I'll leave it at that before I get lost (no pun intended) in my own questions.

It certainly seems like it could suffer the Phantom Menace Syndrome judging from the hype on forums and the web. Either way it is good to see something new and rather original (judging from the blogs and what not) coming from Hollywood for once.

Plus, with a January release date and if the hype carries on this could make a massive amount of money.

Aye but then so did Phantom Menace and Matrix Revolutions.

Oh I can totally understand. Some of the theories being battered around the net at the moment are brilliant and could all make a series of great monster films.

But if the hype continues could ruin it. For a film costing $30 million it can't be that CGI heavy, meaning it might not please the audiences. But on the other hand it could

Is that all it cost? Serenity cost $40million and some people (not me, I loved it) accused it of looking "tv movie-ish". Still, in the right hands 30million could still look great.

The TV movie thing could work though if this is going to be totally viewed from handheld camera perspectives.

Plus, if Serenity can look good at that price, it might show up Hollywood Blockbusters for the overinflated budgets.

EDIT: Ah Caster, I never knew you cared

No.

That's what's worrying me actually, the whole hand-held business. This could start to look all Blair-Witchy and the second half could comprise of just talking heads to camera. Hope not though.  Still, it is written by Drew Goddard (who has written eps of Buffy, Angel, Alias and Lost) so I am still excited.

I am hoping it does have a link to Cthulhu as I think it would be an interesting premise. From what has been revealed in the puzzle site and the blog site its not going to be your average run of the mill monster movie.
Whatever the mofo is in the trailer that took the statue of liberties head off its big and I mean biiiiiig! Could be a Kracken...who knows? But definitely involves a cult of some kind.

Some cryptic words from Abrams;

Regarding the online stuff you posted: yeah, we're doing some fun stuff on the web. But, obviously, if the movie doesn't kick some massive ASS, who gives a rat's about what's online? So as you can imagine, we're focusing mostly on THAT. For what it's worth, the only site of ours that people have even FOUND is the 1-18-08.com site. The others (like the Ethan Haas sites) have nothing to do with us.

The EthanHaaswasright.com and EthanHaaswaswrong.blogspot.com websites are widely believed to be part of the movie, generally because Paramount asked YouTube to remove videos taken from the EthanHaaswasright.com. Why they had them removed is a mystery now, much like what or where the other site(s) are that Abrams mentions above.
