I've a feeling I may have already said this on here a couple of moons ago but having just watched an old Prefab Sprout interview from the Wide Awake Club on YouTube I have to reiterate: Wendy Smith was bloody lovely. Source of many a fevered moment during my adolescence anyway.

She was alright, but she was no Wendy James.

A quick stroll down memory lane via Google Images has just reminded me why I always went up to my room to watch The Chart Show. And Top Of The Pops. And Neighbours. And Home And Away. And on one particularly anxious evening, Birds Of A Feather.

This was the first poster of a girl I had on my bedroom wall. It had been Iron Maiden and Jason Voorhees before that
One of my good friends has a photo of him kissing Wendy James after a Transvision Vamp concert. He lives off that story for years, as you would.

I had that poster too. My mum did not approve but my dad thought it was ace.

After sitting through another laugh-free episode of How I Met Your Mother, I'm beginning to wonder if the show was ever actually funny in the first place.

It was never all that, but NPH and Segal had some good stuff in earlier seasons. I just never really saw the point of watching the show for the odd moment.

Not really, and I always thought the writing of the women (not just the two female leads) was hugely problematic.

All the characters are horribly self-obsessed and judgemental, they make the Friends lot look fairly normal by comparison. Plus the acting, from Segal and Buffy's mate in particular, is frequently terrible.

Also these are supposed to be friends and yet the pleasure apparently taken in actually physically assaulting one of them (and that is supposed to be funny) is deeply troubling.

And has there ever been a sitcom where the lead character has been so incredibly dull? Oh my God, his favourite film is Star Wars! THAT CRAZY FUCKING MAVERICK!!!!

HIMYM is basically told from the viewpoint of Bob Saget telling his kids a bedtime story, right? And the show has been going on for, what, five years, with 20 episodes per series?

How fucking long has Saget been telling his kids this story? Stupid twatting show.

Also half of his stories seem to be about him giving it to Aunt Robin and how much he was obsessed with Aunt Robin and giving her a good seeing to. Those children are going to grow up as serial killers.

I'd just love a final episode when the narrator goes crazy apeshit and starts screaming 'Your Mother was a fucking SLUT!!!!'

Just to look at the expression on those kids faces...

We can dream.

9 years. And I don't think I've found it funny since about S4. I wonder if PA still watches it.

Which works fine in stuff like Seinfeld or It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia when the humour derives from the fact the characters are deeply flawed, but in How I Met Your Mother I always get the impression these irritating pricks are supposed to be cool and likeable.

I know game shows are banal by their very nature, but Tipping Point really does take banality to the extreme.

Whenever we were on holiday and needed a break from the sun, we went back up to the room and put the telly on. Tipping Point always seemed to be on. At first we were dismssive. Fifteen minutes in it was all "Zone three you imbecile."

There was a very funny promo for the final season where the kids are 9 years older and basically shout at the dad for not letting them leave the sofa. Funnier than anything the show has ever done.

My wife watches, and loves, it. It rarely raises a titter from me.
