It would be nice if one of the lovely mod people could see their way clear to action my title change request.

Also, I really need to get away somewhere for a bit.

As I do not watch Big Brother, I have only just heard of Evan Holyfield's silly comments regarding homosexuality. Everyone is entitled to their opinion but it's important to remember when there are cameras pointed at you.

I didn't, no, so it seems to have returned to normal. How very weird. I've no idea what it was but it looked like a very tacky and cheesy prog-rock album cover from the early 70s.

What the hell happened to me and my reading. I used to read one or two books a week. Browsing my shelves, I can see all the books I've read over recent years and, barring novels I've started and given up on and some films books I've dipped in and out of but read in full, I've read 29 books since 2008. That's awful.

It happens. I was actually going to post this in what made you smile. For the last few years my reading has all but stopped. Stress, worry, whatever - I've barely been able to drag myself through a book rather consume several a week. I did the Lit HoF simply to force myself to read.

But I don't know what happened - New Years and it's like the blockage opened and I hope so much it stays that way. I'm reading like I used to read - my other half is thrilled because he thought it was a form of depression!

So keep at it - I'm beginning to think you can get readers block like you get writers block and it'll pass. I promise

This. I can go months without picking up a book but then something clicks and I get straight back into it.

I used to read a book every week without fail for years. Last year I read two books. It's bugging the shit out of me because I have about 30 books waiting to be read but I have absolutely no interest in picking any of them up. I think I might try reading some old favourites, something familiar and comfortable might be good for getting me back into the habit of reading again.

I don't think I've read 29 books in my entire life, I've been reading I Am Legend since the film came out. I'm on page 2....

That's what I was doing - Pratchett/Christie, trying to refocus my mind. Some short stories as well to see if it could trip the switch.

Last year or so I started taking a lot of graphic novel recommendations in the Comics sub-forum (some amazing stuff in there) and I think getting back into that really helped as well.

Now just got my fingers crossed that it won't stall again now I'm back at work.

Give Finnegans Wake by James Joyce a shot. It's a light and breezy read, I swear.

I just started The Hobbit yesterday. I haven't read it since I was 15 and can barely remember a thing about it so it's almost like reading a fresh book. It'll be easier to get through than the films too.

Graphic novels are also handy for getting back into the habit. The pictures are nice and easy on the brain.

I read somewhere recently that it took a book club 13 years to read the fucking thing. I admire that kind of dedication.

I'd recommend both Garv and Gimli going in for the next Lit HoF. Maybe a deadline will help push you both to read.

Although I'm really tempted to nominate Finnegans Wake just to fuck everybody off.

Has anyone here ever read the whole thing? I know of it mostly by reputation and I had a quick scan through it in a library once, but I've never attempted to read it. Is there any special way to approach reading it and most importantly is it worth the effort?

As for the Lit HoF, yeah I might throw a nom in for the next round. Could be helpful in getting me back into reading.

Doing things differently this year by rereading books more rather than reading ones new to me.

First up, Crime and Punishment.
