I've done that. I mean, not actually in the form of wishing my child a happy birthday, but more mentioned the fact that it's his or her birthday and holy shit does that make me feel old. That sort of thing. Actually saying "happy birthday son" is nonsense, because, as you say, he isn't on facebook... But I've put like, "holy crap I can't believe my son is TEN. TEN?! WTF!" etc

How old will you feel when he does go on facebook?

I know people with children on Facebook below the 13 year old lower limit. But yeah, I guess I will feel about 35... Because I will be, when he's 13.

God, 35...

Wait a minute, you're currently under 35? Who's the old dude in the pictures you keep putting up then? Is that your dad?

I had to look up what that was (big, big mistake to Google that). I have obviously led a sheltered life and never gone to the parties JC has.

If only I had some use for bookends but they would be a waste.

From the manner she is promoted it appears she is a pair of boobs with a person attached. Possibly she is marketed in this manner because she has no discernible talents?

Three things I have leaned today:

After Earth looks awful. Will Smith, stop trying to make your son a movie star, he lacks the charisma to do it.

If the 3D on the Man of Steel trailer is an example of how it is going to be on the film, boy is that overdone and poorly shot.

And finally, i really need to only see 2D films from now on. Iron Man 3 on the Imax was fine and I have never had a problem with Imax 3D but today when the finale started I got a massive headache and felt really sick to the stomach. It is the closest I have ever come to being physically sick at the cinema. My eyes still hurt.

I severely underestimated how stressful it would be applying for a job at my placement school. Just waiting to hear whether or not I've got an interview is sending me round the bend.

It's a great thing being able to complain about the fact I have a heap of mundane domestic chores to do tomorrow - hoover, wash clothes, tidy room, change bedding etc - because it's a direct result of the fact I have been so busy and sociable in the past week. I've just not had the chance to do any of it and instead of getting bits done here or there and it's got to the point I can't ignore it any longer.

But I love that it means I've been out and about!

I just finished walking my father's dog tonight for possibly the last time before I leave to go abroad for a few months, a dog that I have been looking after nearly every day barring weekends and holidays from the time he was seven weeks old until now, two months shy of his second birthday. It just came over me all of a sudden but I realised that having struggled with unemployment, general lack of motivation in life and being an antisocial bugger, he was literally the reason I got up in the mornings. I will miss him when I'm away. I'll admit the old British stiff upper lip failed me for a minute there, but luckily I was in a dark lane and the dog was the only one with me. He didn't seem to notice and was more interested in a empty packet of crisps. I gave him an extra biscuit and an extra kiss when I left.

Ugh. After much recommendations and praise, I finally watched Dredd tonight.

Terrible, absolutely awful.

Really? I watched it for the first time last weekend and was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. It's not spectacular, but I thought it was a decent enough action film.

I bought it for this reason - everybody raved about it and said it was far better than you'd expect it to be. I found it really vacuous, dull, and far too cheesey. I love a lot of films that are tongue in cheek (the A-team for example), but this was just cringeworthy. I actually winced at some of the one liners. Not to mention it'd barely got to the hour mark and I was already checking how long I still had left to go...

The A Team has a flying tank, though. That was the point you were sold on it, I would imagine.
