My oldest brother has lived out there for years - I've had two trips to visit him (before my fear of flying stopped me doing another one). First time was for a month and the second time for three weeks.

It's a lovely place. I'd highly recommend going - so much to see and do. Sentosa Island, accessible by cable car or a little monorail from Vivo City (a shopping mall), is awesome. Beautiful beaches, and loads of activities - Universal Studios (which wasn't open when I first went, but sports an awesome BSG themed roller coaster), a butterfly & insect world, Fort Siloso (my favourite), golf courses, a luge ride, sea life centre, zip line, cafes..........

Singapore itself has so many parks, lovely river walks, an amazing zoo (and I'm not keen on zoos), a bird park, an amazing opera house built to look like a Durian fruit, the new marina sands casino building that has one of those sky pools....

The list is endless. I basically can't recommend it enough. Good luck trying to see and do everything in between working.

Edit: Well I quickly killed that convo with my rambling.

That's ok. After having two major operations within two months of each other, and currently waiting on results to see if I require further surgery and chemo... If I get the all clear, I'm going to stick a big fat middle finger up at my fear of flying and I am going to see the world.

I don't think I'm important enough enough in the business to warrant business class though I am certainly tall enough to need the extra room

My only gripe about flying now is that I am unable to sleep in anything other than complete darkness and silence so I never manage to get any kip on the over night flights. I did try to drink myself to sleep on the way back from Johannesburg a couple of years ago (it happened to be my birthday too) and just sat there wide awake going through turbulence and a hangover...

 Positives from today:

Decided to put on a lottery ticket online. It requires a minimum of £10 balance in your lottery account to be able to do so, so I transferred a tenner over from my bank account. Put £5 worth of lines on (I only occasionally play) then decided to play instant scratch card type games with the rest of the money. Ended up winning a tenner. So I now have £5 worth of lottery tickets and I'm not out of pocket.

Negative:

Got a call from the hospital today giving me a date to come in for my results. Apparently they'd sent out a letter to my 'home address' with an appointment for today, but we never received a letter here at my parents house, and a letter never arrived at my flat either. Frustrating to know I could have known my results by now... And yet instead I'm just feeling sick to my stomach worrying about the impending day.

 Yeah, pretty much. Certainly none in the north-east, so I'm looking at jobs where I can make the argument that I have transferable skills.

But they're coming back up in a couple of weeks with figures for a redundancy offer, which is an absolute last resort at the minute. I hated every minute of being unemployed and have no desire to return to that state if I can help it, particularly in this economic climate. I'm trying to keep calm and logical and tell myself that I still have a job, and I will do until I find a job back up here. So any move I'm forced to take will hopefully only be extremely short-term.

They've also taken onboard all our various situations, so there might be some leeway to splitting shifts between Salford and doing work from home. I'm not counting on anything though, so a spruce up of the CV is in order.

Harry, I don't remember kicking a cat lately, but if I see one today it's getting my boot.

Fucking hell.

I have no idea, Chief. If there's an option to only do two or three days down there and the rest of my work I can do from home, I would just get a cheap hotel for however many nights necessary. But it's all so up in the air that it's hard to say what it's going to involve.

I mean, I was all set to fire off some job applications tonight for anything, but I think it might more sensible to hold off for the time being and see what kind of offers are put on the table.

But I am trying to hold onto the fact that a) I'm not losing my job and b) I still have a good few months to find a job before I would have to move.


And, yes, I was obviously Pol Pot in my former life.

 I've just been told my secondment at work is likely to be extended for another six months.

I do get the feeling that there's something I'm not doing that I'm unaware of though because I'm finding this job ridiculously easy and I can't understand why I'm being paid more for it than I get for my normal job. I get paranoid that I'm overlooking something big and it's going to come and bite me on the ass before too long.

And then where would you be? In a pickle with your job AND one boot down. Think of all the extra socks you'd end up going through. It'd be a downward spiral I do not recommend. Leave no boot behind, matty.


On a serious note, I'm really sorry to hear about this situation, especially after all you've been through over the past year.

To try and make you feel a bit better, here's a picture of a cake of a lamb. I thought I'd google search 'lamb fuck' to see what would appear, and the actual pic from here was amongst the first images! I thought I'd go for something different. So, lamb.

Edit: That pic was HUGE.

Have some lamb cupcakes instead.
