So I was getting ready to take the food out of the oven and stuck my plate in the microwave to warm it up - and my mate gave me a look of bafflement mixed with disgust. It was like I'd curled one out on it instead.

I do this, and my old flatmates used to take the piss out of me. I don't know why, because it makes complete sense to warm up a plate before you put hot food on it.

I'm not really a fan of having my food turn cold quickly, but seem people seem to be happy with it.

Odd that you mention this just now, one of my old flatmates left a message for me on facebook just last week saying she'd microwaved a plate to take the chill off it and had thought of me!

It's probably rarer as a natural thing at home, but there's a reason good restaurants serve food on heated plates. Esp if there's a sauce or gravy involved.

Having said that, my old flatmates at uni still take the piss out of me today because when we first moved in together I used to keep my tins of food in the fridge.
