Malcolm McDowell is in two totally different Christmas films this year. The TV movie Home Alone: The Holiday Heist and Silent Night a 'remake' of Silent Night, Deadly Night. Make up your mind, Malcolm, you either hate Christmas or you don't. In fact, maybe the fact that he is in both means he does hate it....

I was looking at my town on Google maps yesterday ( I was bored) and according to it, my town still has a fully thriving Woolworths in its high street.....

I still miss Woolworths .

I live about 40 yards or so from where our Woolies used to be and it was incredibly handy. I also loved going there the day after Boxing Day to see what was on sale. I'm fairly certain I've not bought a DVD (or Blu) off the High Street since Woolworths folded (not counting what I get with my obligatory HMV voucher off my sister in law each Xmas).

The last time I can clearly remember being in a Woolworths was December 2006, when I was looking everywhere for a Nintendo Wii before Christmas. I seem to recall paying a small fortune for one on ebay in the end (I really wanted to see my then 85 year old Nan trying to play Wii bowling, and it was totally worth it ).

Depending on which particular thing I think of from that Christmas, some of it doesn't feel all that long ago but other bits really do

But yeah, that was weird on Google. Everything went grey and foreign looking fonts appeared upside down, and I swear there was a stretched and blocky looking Pluto (the dog), which again was upside down

Is it me or are there are palpable ripples of tension washing through the forum these days? Everyone seems uptight.

I know what you mean, I've noticed it too. I'm pretty mellow tonight, though. No arguing for me

She doesn't usually do owt for me but Claudia Winkleman's looking rather saucy in that little black dress. Not sure whether I'm developing some alarming new lady-tastes as I hit my mid-thirties or it's just a sympton of the raging hangover-horn I'm currently grappling with. Aye aye - Fiona Bruce looks lush too. Must be the latter

Does Kevin Bacon know half of what he is saying in those adverts he's in?

I think Matty's birthday thread for Dev's mum shows that there's plenty of unity left hereabouts.

It's not really a pun when you say my name first, that sort of gives the joke away. If you said 'Mr Bench' it may have worked. Oh, and-

Since my social life has taken a bit of a torpedoing since I've left Uni, I've adopted the Matty route and joined an online dating site. This should be interesting.

Well, if people actually start talking to me, I'll probably forget every witty thing I've ever heard and start talking about the weather. Fortunately, that's not happened yet!

In another hour I may be missing a tooth, about three attempts at root canal have failed so it's looking like it's going to have to come out. Wouldn't be so bothered if it wasn't at the front..

I've done it three times now. The first time we had to carry the fucker (sorry, 'my grandad's coffin') over the road from the church to the cemetary which was a bit nervewracking but as long as you don't all crumble or wobble at the same time it tends to be okay.
That's probably not much help but I guess I'm saying it wasn't as bad as I was expecting. Hope it goes okay anyway.
Funerals are a load of fucking bullshit.

I don't think I'm going to say yes.

I feel shitty and a coward for not doing it...but I just don't know if I can.

You shouldn't beat yourself up about it and you're not a coward Matty. Some things just can't be done. It changes nothing about how you feel - they'll know that.

Yeah it's tough alright Matty but you might feel like you want to be involved in sending him off on the day, UTB's advice is solid. There were about 50 different pallbearers for my dad and it was actually lovely to see them all taking turns at carrying him. I remember each and every one of them.

Unrelated, I just spent 50 on 3 cinema tickets for The Hobbit.

Pallbearing can be really daunting. My fiance was scared when he was asked to carry the coffin at his Grandads funeral but he did such a good job and it was lovely to see his two sons and four grandsons honouring their father/grandfather in that way. I wouldn't like to see you make a decision you regret, but if you genuinely feel like you cannot go through with it, I'm sure the family would more than understand.

Thanks for the advice, guys. I've decided not to do it - he's got so many friends and other family members that they'll be able to get someone else pretty quickly and that includes people he's known far longer than me. That, the fact I'd rather be with my boys in case either is upset, and also the fact that ultimately I'm no longer with his sister, just never sat right with me.

I think it's the right decision to do what's best for you and the kids, mate. The family will understand.

Hmm, I'm trying to reply to Matty in Christmas single thread, but the message keeps getting deleted as soon as it's posted.
