I'm thinking why can't I sleep tonight? I should be arguably tired. I've tried everything and now I'm listening to Slipknot and considering playing Madden on the x-box.

3 days off work and this is what I'm doing with my time!

How come, with all the millions of items of Olympic merchandise now on offer, it's almost impossible to get something that just has the Olympic rings on it?

As their season belatedly sprung into life last night I'd say you've got a window of about four days before they fuck it up again.
Mind, despite the film ending with that game, I reckon most football fans would find much to... if not love then certainly relate to in it.

Reading about the rebranding of confectionary has reminded me of how annoyed I got when Peanut Treets became M&Ms. Not for any nostalgic reason, but because it ruined an old joke that I liked - "How do you get a peanut out of your ear?  Pour in some chocolate and it'll come out a treet!"

I'm thinking that with tomorrow's planned industrial action, I'm likely to be the only person on this floor of my building on Thursday - should I just bring my Kindle to work?

I've tried to say it's about life and football and how a love of football develops and about relationships and growing up. I've even told him there is footage of Liverpool thumping them. But all he remembers is one Michael Thomas goal and game's a bogey. It's not even hating Thomas himself, given he played for them.

Completely irrational. I've even seen Fever Pitch twice on stage and he won't even consider it. Although it might be me describing one timely show where a wreath was laid at the picture of George Graham

If you put Olympic rings into Amazon there seems to be a bit of a range - flags, jellys, badges. cufflinks?

Not thought to look on Amazon, I've been looking at the official site and John Lewis, the store I was in the other day was almost taken over by olympic stuff.

Amazon has everything. I wanted to try Ritter Sports - they're on Amazon. I needed a brace for my buggered wrist - on Amazon. Books and DVDs are sooooo last year. (I wish!)

I always end up re-reading it at this stage of the season every year. Not that I specifically set out to or anything, it's just nice to I'm not the first person to put up with this team for a no doubt excellent reason that I can't think of.

That said, Thomas vs. Liverpool is pretty much the best thing ever so that helps.

I guess the appropriate term is 'eeek' - my actual first (dead) mouse. Apparently tried to find water in the other poison dispenser. Long stiff tails are really kind of icky.

The shop I work in has a whole stand full of Olympic Tat, and various other items scattered around the till.

They're not selling... at all. There are keyrings of London taxis and buses that are no bigger than a thimble and look incredibly cheaply made, but are being priced at £7!

The one that made me laugh the other day are the scale model collectible Olympic torches, which if you haven't seen it look like this:

Only the models are just a bit bigger than a standard pen.

Now, if you saw a scale model of an olympic torch which, if you held in your hand, felt quite heavy, you'd be forgiven for assuming it would be an actual lightbulb torch right? Wrong, it's just a lump of solid metal. A small but heavy lump of metal which is the perfect size for a child to carry around and hit people with.

[EDIT]

They might start selling when the Olympics come around, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

And to think I was on such a high after the Murder, She Wrote double-bill.

My wife is currently enjoying a retro Murder She Wrote appreciation fest. I could be imagining things but I'm sure I keep seeing Leslie Nielsen turning up in every episode and hitting on Jessica. I find the notion of Angela Lansbury possessing a sex-drive somewhat perturbing.

Although Terry's deck-chair accident in the opening credits was the epitome of physical comedy

Most 70's "comedies" were fuck awful tbh. Its like tv just decided to be massively racist and misogynistic for the decade just for the fun of it.

Watching the 70's show last week and seeing a clip of Til Death Us Do Part and Alf Garnet it reminded me how bad they were and how on earth they ever got made!

To be fair to 'Til Death Us Do Part, while it wasn't one of my favourites (or particularly funny) the whole point of the programme was to satirise the views of Alf Garnett - writer Johnny Speight was a lifelong socialist and the programme was intended to be deeply critical of right-wing prejudice. You couldn't really say the same about Love Thy Neighbour, Mind Your Language or Curry And Chips.
Of course, as Warren Mitchell explained in an interview once, it wasn't always taken that way, as highlighted by a bloke who approached him at a Spurs match, slapped him on the back and said 'I love it when you have a go at the coons!'. To which Mitchell replied 'We're actually having a go at idiots like you' but sadly the damage was already done.
Spaldron's right though - when it comes to '70s comedy, the sublime quality of Porridge or Fawlty Towers tends to overshadow how dreadful most of the rest was.
Though I'm warming towards this episode of Terry And June. There's a vicar and a jumble sale and everything!

I won't hear a bad word said against my beloved Rising Damp, thank you. I grew up with On the Buses too and find it most agreeable.

My two cents.

Yes but I remember even Fawlty Towers doing a n****r joke on one episode.

Rising Damp was very near sitcom-perfection. The episode where Phil bets Rigsby he can't go two days without food is a work of genius.
Again though, like 'Til Death Us Do Part (though Rising Damp was much funnier) its protagonist was a bigoted old fool (or in this case, a bigoted randy old fool) but it was always quite clear he was the butt of the joke.
