............ aka acest actioner of all time!  I remember the Empire quotes that graced the cover of my old VHS copy (the dubbed version, with some hysterical dialogue).  "The most gun-crazy action film in years" and "Tougher than a dozen Die Hards" or something to that effect hehehe
Come one, let's see some love for an awesome actioner!!!!!!!!!!

Ah its been years since I've seen this last, probably caught it on C4 as a teenager. Just watched the bluray, fuck me you forget how bat-shit crazy this film is. John Woo's finest I reckon and made just before he fucked off to Hollywood to make crap like MI:2. What is it like the highest bodycount ever or something? Insane film and brilliant.

HARD BOILED rocks. By far one of the greatset action films ever. It is Snake-Eyes' chosen John Woo / Chow Yun-Fat collaboration. I have great memories of watching this over and over again on VHS along wih THE KILLER and A BETTER TOMORROW IIm back in the early 90's.

Oh yeah, a fucking awesome actioner. My first taste of John Woo's Hong Kong output. I prefer it to The Killer personally.

Chow Yun Fat abseiling through the roof of the garage and kicking an immense amount of ass!!

The true magnum opus of John Woo and the greatest action film of all time. The Killer, Bullet in the Head and A Better Tomorrow 1&2 are great, but this is it, the masterpiece.

Remember Woolies?? I brought HARD BOILED from there for a pound!!! Also The Machinist, Chopper (a must watch!!) ALL FOR A BLOOMIN' 1 EACH!! God, i miss Woolies!!!

Anyway, i have the dubbed version in English. What do you guys prefer? The original in Chinese (Mandarin?) or English??

My dubbed version does sound cheesy, but i think its part of the charm!!

Always watch it in the intended language. I can't be doing with English dubs cos they are usually terrible, the only film that works dubbed is Kung-Fu Hustle.

Only watch it in its original language. You're seriously missing out if you've only caught the shitty dubbed version (personally I think dubbing is a crime against world cinema).

And agree with above The Killer is amazing too, really must check that out again.

It was supposed to be a clever joke on the thread title, but kind of backfired as no-one is smart enough to get it.

Edti: fab film though

The version i bought was dubbed, i could not get original Mandarin which was a bummer!! I mean for a 1 there was bound to be a perk!! LOL!

I prefer watching my Hong Kong action flick in the original language anyhow, the dubbed versions detracts A LOT from the original version story wise. A lot of people cant stand subtitles, but i seem to welcome it!! When i'm watching even a Hollywood fare at home, i tend to put subtitles on. I only get time to watch a good movie when my kids are asleep, so i keep the volu,e down, and subtitle on. I'm so used to it now, that i hate any films WITHOUT subtitles !!

But yeah, i agree you should always try to watch a film in its original language!! Its a part of the experience methinks!!

I like to watch the dubbed version when I feel like a good laugh, some of the lines are comedy gold. As for the version itself, the Tartan DVD has better picture quality as well as the original language options, the old dubbed only Prism version I had was very grainy in places. I'll be getting this in Blu Ray when it gets a UK release.

Thanks for the info mate. I have the Prism version which is the dubbed version. The picture quality is not too good either, shaky in places....thats is why i will be buying the Tartan DVD, or Blu Ray very soon. HARD BOILED is an absolute masterpiece and a must have!! No collection is complete without it!

You have to watch it in both the original language and the dubbed. Otherwise how else are you going to enjoy the genius that is the Ong-Bak dub?

I've not watched this in a while.

Anyone played the "sequel" - Stranglehold?? It's like playing a movie, so pretty awesome!

This and Die Hard instantly spring to mind whenever anyone says: "Best action film?"

Chow Yun-Fat is so cool..even with flour on him.

Stranglehold was really short and I was dissapointed. That and the story doesn't work as a sequel to this at all.

During the shoot-out in the hospital there is a sequence filmed in one continuous shot that lasts several minutes (including a ride in an elevator).
They had only one chance of getting it right and they pulled it off!

Which sequence do people think is the best in Hard Boiled?
The tea room
The warehouse
The hospital

Personally is go for the warehouse. Tequila absaling in alone, and taking on everyone is so cool

I'd go for the warehouse, too. Tequila abseiling in with that fucking huge shotgun on his back, and kicking mucho ass. Hard as fucking nails.

The teahouse would get my second vote, while the hospital (as good as it is) gets third.
