A quaint little masterpiece, firmly tongue-in-cheek throughout. I have seen it only once, by the way, so I'm looking forward to the repeats!

A great film from my childhood, which still stands up to repeat viewings today.

Classic Jack Burton lines...

Hey, I'm a reasonable guy. But I've just experienced some very unreasonable things.

Like I told my last wife, I said, "Honey, I never drive faster than I can see, and besides... it's all in the reflexes."

Would you just stop rubbing your body up against mine, because I can't concentrate when you do that.

When some wild-eyed, eight-foot-tall maniac grabs your neck, taps the back of your favorite head up against the barroom wall, looks you crooked in the eye and asks you if ya paid your dues, you just stare that big sucker right back in the eye, and you remember what ol' Jack Burton always says at a time like that: "Have ya paid your dues, Jack?" "Yessir, the check is in the mail."

have seen this movie countless times it is awesome.

"I'm starting to feel like an outsider here."

The funniest part for me was the "we may be trapped" line.
Cracks me up.

One of the funniest films out there, with added Three Storms kung-fu coolness. Typically great synth score from Carpenter too.

Cant believe there isnt a bigger following for this film, its SERIOUSLY one of my favourite films of all time. (For re-wacthability).
I think its amazing.

Alos in Grindhouse there is a little nod from Tarantino to this gem of a film.

Look abov the black girls head...Jack Burtons vest.

Hey that is a cool reference. I think if Grindhouse is a big hit, then Kurt Russell
might see a 'late career comeback' ala John Travolta in Pulp.
Big Trouble was always one of my fave JC movies. I could never understand why
Denis Dun wasn't a bigger action star! (?) He's handsome, very charasmatic, can
act very well and kicks some serious ass! I think the only other movies I saw him
in were Carpenter's Prince Of Darkness and a bit part in the kiddie flick Warriors
Of Virtue - really good actor. PS: James Hong (one of my fave character actors)
was awesome and scary as Lo Pan and Kim Cattrall was so sexy when she was young!
How could Burton turn her down in the end? What a dick....
oh well, I guess she wasnt Porkchop express worthy...
I would have liked to see a Jack Burton spin off movie or just more Jack Burton movies where he gets in
other trucking adventures - perhaps with Zombies and shit like that.
PS: Victor Wong as Egg Shen was the shiznos!
My favourite quote:

Egg Shen: Look, black blood of the earth?
Jack: Don't you main oil?
Egg Shen: No, I mean black blood of the earth!!

I would not rate this as Carpenter's best, but would be in my beer movie top 10. It did blow me away when I was 14 and witnessed it in the cinema.

I also loved this film and have watched it many times over the years, but some people say this was the turning point in his career. I think the only half decent film he did since was In The Mouth of Madness...and that wasn't that good.

I was watching Big Trouble in Little China 12 days or so ago on DVD after making a few changes to the sound systems surround arrays, “it’s all in the reflexes” terrific John Carpenter cult classic.

That's actually one of my favourite parts, a real kick in the face to your bog-standard cliched filmmaking. Burton doesn't get the girl in the end, because he prefers the road and the love of his truck above all else. What a guy! And a totally believeable outcome for the way Burton's character was written - the aloof fool who doesn't realise when his luck is in. Genius... utter genius! If you haven't already voted for it in this years Top 100 Favourite Film Poll then get to it...

" We really shook the pillars of heaven, didn't we Wang?"

I guess it's a case of The Thing? We never knew what happened to McReady and Childs, whether he was a Thing or not, ether way there both toast in the end.

We never knew what happened to Jack and his Truck, maybe the Thing at the back of the truck got him! Maybe we'll never know.

Oh Bugger it's that beast!

A true rainy day classic!

Jack Burton :Everybody relax, I'm here.

Jack Burton: Ok, you people! Sit tight, hold the fort and keep the home fires burning. And if we're not back by dawn... call the president.

And after about 1hour and 20 mins into the film and several meetings later Jack and Thunder have this bit of exchange:

Jack Burton: You know what ol' Jack Burton says at a time like this?
Thunder: Who?
Jack Burton: Jack Burton... ME!

Cracks me up everytime. Totally adore this film. It's fun, energetic totally committed and full of muscle. The very opposite of Carpenter's 'Snake Plisken'. Thinks he's the ducks nuts!
