Can't believe I'm the first to point out that that is easily the worst cover ever. It looks absurd.

it is pretty bad, i cant quite understand why spock is covered in make up in every promo shot. he looks plastic/like max headroom. its rather strange.

heres hoping subscribers get the paul newman cover that he deserves.

is that it for Trek now or can we expect another cover issue with an article?...yeah I know the Dec ST cover issue had a sizable article but Im talking a BIG trek article like the current Terminator issue going into each previous film in detail with a couple of pages dedicated to all the tv shows…maybe even do The Motion Picture in Movie Trial (what happened to that btw?)

something like The Phantom Menace and the Goldeneye/Casino Royale issues where star wars and bond basically took over the magazine those months!

im guessing thats it with T4 (other than the review) as i cant see another big issue on Terminator after this one....  actually i think thats the way it works with Emp now.…a cover issue with big article a few months in advance of the films release, then just do the review when film is out..as opposed to cover issue w/big article coinciding with films release (like the past)

Still hoping for a big Trek issue in the next couple of months though ....i take it everyones seen the new trailer now?...we could very well be talking an instant ***** classic here like The (1st) Matrix...im sure new fans and old would make certain they had the big ST issue of Empire

Yeah, I think this is the new status quo for big movies, probably because films are released so soon after press screenings, so very often several weeks go by with the film in cinemas before the magazine review sees print (obviously not such a big deal in these interweb days).

I'm really looking forward to Star Trek too, more so than Transformers or Terminator, but I have to say, I can't really see it getting five stars.  I think a really good, solid, enjoyable, old-fashioned "fun" film (hopefully PG, instead of these gritty 12As we see all the time nowadays!).  And there's nowt wrong with fun now, is there?

One of the reasons you may see another Star Trek cover is that due to the writers strike there aren't quite as many blockbusters out this year and so some repeat covers are possible. I would expect it to go

May - Star Trek
June- Transformers
July - Harry Potter

There's a really good article in this month's Total Film on Star Trek and then a retrospective on all the films and tv shows also. Good stuff.

Surely we need fewer comics- and cult-TV-related front covers, not more?

PS: HIM, what's with the Peter Cook hairdo?

Sir, are you referring to my av? If so I should inform you that that is none other than Liverpool's superstar Spanish striker Fernando Torres!

Surely the covers reflect what's likely to appeal to the bigger audience, as at the moment it's comics and cult related TV shows then that's what gets the coverage.  It's not as if it has always been this genre that's popular with Empire covers.  It's just what's hot right now.  Like Hansel.

been re reading this thread...whod have thought back then that star trek would turn out to be THE film of the summer - review and (almost) box office wise..

i suspect multiple covers in the build up to star trek '2'

pre JJTrek whod have thought a Star Trek film would be such a big event it would warrant 3 empire covers in one year! (no covers for Treks V-X) i suppose its abit like Iron Man in a way - up until the 2008 film no one really knew about Iron Man outside of the fanbase yet now hes almost on a par with batman, superman etc and while trek was by no means as obscure in the mainstream as Iron Man (some of the previous films were just as successful as 2009s) it was pretty much dead in the water for the best part of a decade so much even fans had deserted it, yet now the whole JJ thing has upped it considerably in the current mainstream (we'll see by how much later this year) to the extent it can easily be mentioned in the same breath as any other big movie series - even Star Wars...
