I remember when that cover came out and people wrote in to criticise Empire's art department for putting his lightsaber on wonky

Christ, yes. I didn't even notice that but it's horribly wonky and very obviously so.

Not wanting to be too Skywalker whiny or anything, because in some ways, this is a really fun idea, but... I always thought that this is the sort of thing that magazines like mojo or classic rock do when there are no decent records out this month. Pick up something old and put it on the cover again.

Think about it for a minute, whether its the june or july issue, what does it say about the state of movies in 2007 that in the height of the popcorn movie season, there are no new films that are worth putting on the front cover of empire.

30 covers for 30 years tells you that, yes, star wars is still awesome, (sign me up for a Jawa one with a 'Dink, Dink, Utini, it's 30 years of Star Wars' tagline) but also that there is nothing out in the cinemas at the moment which will get close to the same treatment in 30 years time, because it's not even getting the respect of a front cover now. 2007 is proving to be a rubbish year for movies.

My predictions for the 30 covers, in no particular order. Most are pretty obvious, and we already know the first.
Edit: I'm gonna tick these off as they come with a *. Lets see how many I get right,

1 - Chewbacca *
2 - Han Solo
3 - Luke Skywalker
4 - Obi Wan Kenobi (Alec Guinness)
5 - Princess Leia
6 - Darth Vader
7 - Emperor Palpatine
8 - Jabba the Hut
9 - Boba Fett
10 - C-3P0*
11 - R2-D2
12 - Yoda*
13 - Lando Calrissian
14 - Darth Maul*
15 - Mace Windu
16 - Anakin Skywalker (Christensen)
17 - Padme Skywalker*
18 - Grand Moff Tarkin
19 - Stormtrooper*
20 - Qui Gon Jinn
21 - Ewok
22 - Count Dooku
23 - Jar Jar Binks (unfortunately)
24 - Greedo*
25 - Bib Fortuna
26 - General Grieveous
27 - Admiral Ackbar*
28 - Watto
29 - The Rancor (just becuase I want it)
30 - The Millenium Falcon

I'm sure they promised us no more Star Wars about a year ago, but still they drag it on and on and on and on and on....

Nothing. I mean there are alot of big name films about to arrive, but you can't deny starwars' huge influence on the cinematic landscape

It's a fun idea, I think. Though I feel sorry for that one guy who posted a while ago saying he always bought all the multiple covers! I'm sure nobody would be that sad this time around.

I want Admiral Akbar!

I'm sad enough to buy all thirty, but certainly not rich enough. Depending on what I get through my letterbox at the end of the month, I might buy one or two more, but that's it. I've got the rent to pay!

I really like nightspring's idea: a free book for subscribers with all 30 covers in. That would rock my world like a Slave Girl Leia pop-up book.

Well, we know that it covers at least the original trilogy with the Hoth version of Chewie, but maybe prequels.
Personally, I think it would be cool if there were all version's of Anakin / Vader(anakin kid; anakin adult; Vader in mask; Vader unmasked; Anakin in Spirit form).

My guesses anyway
Chewie, Han, Luke, Leia, Obi Wan (young and old), Yoda, C-3PO, R2-D2, Darth Vader and adult Anakin, Emperor Palpatine, Lando, Jabba, Boba Fett, Jango Fett, Darth Maul, Count Dooku, Qui-Gon, Mace Windu, Padme Amidala, Shimi Skywalker, "The binks thing" (ducks), General Grevious.

Random extra's: - Storm Troopers, Jawas, Ewoks, Battledroids, Other Jedi's (e.g. Kit-Fisto in his I am a cool Cthulhu type thingy way),.

And

please, please, please, please, please - The Millenium Falcon.

I reckon stormtroopers are a cert along with Luke, Leia, Han,Wedge!, Vader, Ben Kenobi(old), Yoda, Tarkin, R2D2, C3PO, Lando, Jabba, Wicket, Ackbar, Boba Fett, Sand People, Palpatine, Greedo, Obi wan (young), Anakin, Maul, Dooku, Greivous, Jango Fett, Qui Gonn, Padme,
then 2 or 3 (i've lost count) from a pool of Gamorean Gaurds, Porkins, Mon Motha, Bosk, Lobot, Uncle Owen, Aunt Beru and Mr Bronson.

If my copy arrives with Jar Jar on i'm gonna burn it and cancel the subscription!!

I like Star Wars. I contributed a story to last year's "Star Wars Memories" feature. I get a bit fed up with people constantly whinging on here everytime Empire mentions the movies. But come on  this is just overkill. 30 covers?? fucking 30 fucking covers?

Way over the top.

But 30 years 10 covers has no ring to it. Its better than them just putting a stock Han/Luke/Leia or Vader picture on the front isn't it? this way we might get a novel and interesting cover.

I'd have nothing against an specially designed cover,  Empire could have commissioned something by Drew Struzan for example. That would be cool. But I jsut really do feel that this is just overkill

Enough already with Star Wars. Over the past 8 years since I have read the magazine there have been dozens of Star Wars specials, issues, 25th year anniversarys etc. Are we facing this for the 35th and 40th anniversarys. Get a life and let Star Wars go! And this from your biggest fan and reader and I love Star Wars. Please. Let. It. Go. And if you are serious about 30 separate covers you have seriously gone insane. Or insanely greedy trying to make people buy the same magazine over and over.

What can I say other than I LIKE IT!!!! Well, this WILL be a collectors challenge. I'm a self confessed Star Wars uber obsessive, and if I have to drive to every paper shop, petrol station and supermarket in the lands to acquire all 30 covers, so be it! I've been saving up for a 30th year blow out, and this should start things nicely. It'll also start my trip to Celebration Europe with a bang thats for sure! Come to think of it, I wonder of Celebration Europe will have all the covers?! Hmmmm......the possibilities

Bravo Empire, full marks, lets see your competitors best this one!
