I agree with your last statment, but just me you should see at least three of those films, i'll leave you to try and figure out which one's.

I'll name another Five if you like

Black Daila
Lost In Translation
Match Point
Ghost World
The Man Who Wasn't There

easy!  It's that many of the recent one's haven't been much good and she hasn't done much in them.

I did quite like the first Iron Man, so will likely give this one a try at some point.

Um, I'm a bit confused as to what you guys are all talking about?

Personally I love Lost In Translation, Ghost World and The Man Who Wasn't There.
They are three of the best films of this decade in my opinion.

Black Dahlia looked great I thought but the adaptation of the story and the voice-over didn't do it any favours. It just didn't flow as a film and felt constricted somehow, I'd really like to see a director's cut of it though.
Apparently there was an extended 3 hour cut that then got ripped to shreds, approved, then shipped to the cinemas.
I loved the James Elroy interview in last months Empire by the way. Very interesting.

Match Point I felt was ok.
I found it a bit weird to see Woody Allen doing a thriller, I've only seen him do comedies or straight dramas before, the cast were fine though I thought.

Iron Man 2 is looking pretty mighty at the moment in my opinion.
The on-going wait for a teaser trailer continues...
Good things come to those who wait!

Hope all is well.

Rich i like LT, Ghost World and TMWWT too, those are the films i was suggesting he see off my list.  Match Point i didn't get to grips with one bit, which is a shame because there was a wonderful cast, i guess in a funny sort of way Johansson was alright in it, maybe as the American in it she escape some of the lame lines being fed to the brits.

Oh I see.
Sorry, I was completely confused.
Good recommendations then!
I actually quite liked Scoop as well, probably because it's Woody Allen doing a comedy again. I think I prefer him in that mode.
Vicky Christina Barcelona was pretty good, though the voice over I thought was a bit much at times.

I think with the Christmas period fast approaching I might just have to treat myself and revisit The Pretige soon.
For some reason I get a nice Christmas / Winter vibe from that film.
That, and Batman Returns...

Hope all is well.

Hey There,
Can't wait to see Avatar, not only to see James Cameron back on form... but also to see the Iron Man 2 trailer on the big screen!
Everyone is looking pretty nails in that clip, Mickey Rourke especially.
However, I think it's great that they haven't shown too much of Black Widow. Still keeping it partially under wraps and not over exposing the characters can only be a good thing.

Merry Christmas one and all.

Hope all is well.

Peace.

Hi There,
It's really good to see Scarlett Johansson getting involved yet again with charity work.
This time it's for the very worthy case of the awful disaster in Haiti.
She joins the ranks along with George Clooney and others to help Oxfam raise money for the much needed support others require.

I love it when celebrities use their super-powers good!
: )

Hope all is well.
Peace and Love.

Wow!
I just saw this on the IMDB.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1232205/

Could it be true, I did hear some jungle drums months upon months ago from Empire and looking at the casting it looks very promising.
I recently saw Funny People and was glad to see Adam Sandler back on grown up quality form ala Punch-Drunk Love.
A great script as well in that film in my opinion.
But with Scorsese doing a glitz 'n glamour heyday pic of old blue eyes... Leonardo DiCaprio clearly has a connection with the man over the past few films, plus I loved Casino. And with Vegas being a place which the man himself was synonymous. It all sounds rather like a full house to me. Maybe even a royal flush.
It would be something rather special I think personally to see Scarlett Johansson conducted by the Toscanini himself.
In my opinion she certainly has the acting chops to go toe to toe with all on the list and with the grand wizard Marty at the helm!
And of course playing well... a very equally classic character.
(Wow again!)
Has Christmas come early?
Crossing my fingers right about now.
Ha ha.

Hope all is well.

Peace and love.

Hi UTB,
How's it going?
Hope you are well.
What do you think is bad about her performance specifically in The Prestige?
I only say that because I really don't think it's actually that bad.

Hi Rich

I felt that in a film full of outstanding performances, her limits as an actress shone through. The accent she did was flawless, so I'm not going to blame it on that, but for most of the film she seemed to be reading off a cue card, with a kind of gee-gosh performance that didn't suit the film at all.

Rebecca Hall gave a far better performance, I thought.

Hey there UTB,
Fair enough, different strokes for different folks I guess.
Her character didn't have much on-screen time to develop to be fair....
(I thought she was unfortunately slightly hard done by for that commodity; even for a supporting role which she was playing in my opinion when compared to say Michael Caine and Rebecca Hall).
Personally I thought her performance was fine.
The last time I saw "The Prestige" I wished it had 20 mins of extra footage added (like a deluxe or special edition, with a commentary as well would be a real treat).
I never saw "The Illusionist" (which came out at strangely around the same time...) but I heard it kicked it's arse. : )
Rebecca Hall I thought was also very good in the film. She's been doing so well what with Frost/Nixon and such like.
It's strange how their paths crossed once again in Vicky Cristina Barcelona years later!

Hope you are well.

Peace.

Hi There,
Hope all is well.
I just checked out some reviews of "A View From A Bridge"....

http://www.broadwaybox.com/reviews/theater/a_view_from_the_bridge_reviews.aspx

Good to see that it's looking positive, with the cast getting good praise for their efforts.
Nothing like treading the boards to broaden the mind and soul.

Take it easy.

Peace.

Hi There,
I've got to say Scarlett Johnansson is looking awfully kick arse in the new Iron Man 2 re-vamped trailer, in the blink and you'll miss it close cut action sequences. It's all looking very good though in my opinion and very promising.
I got to see it on the big screen the other day with huge sound as well when I went and saw Green Zone.

I wonder if she'll be having a face off with Iron Maiden?
(Still no sign of her in the trailer, a smart move if they are holding back yet more artillery from the biggest jaw dropping trailer of the year so far).
After being on a drip-feed for the past year and a half for this film, April 30th can not come sooner.
Especially after seeing the brief case
I'm so glad they haven't spoilt it with revealing too much visually, it's still quite mysterious.
Excellent work. This could be a classic sequel.
Hope all is well.
Peace and Love.

I think she has gotten better with age. Vicky, Christina, Barcelona I thought was a beautiful film and her performance was great. She is really hot as well which I think does help and actress get to where she is but there is no denying she has talent. I think its her voice that makes her really sexy! x

Hey there,
She has got a killer voice for "smokiness" in my opinion, very distinctive.
One of the best voices since Kathleen Turner met Jessica Rabbit.

I'm so gutted I missed this, I've just got to New York on my travels going all around the US, the reviews have been great for it (a nice poster too in my opinion). Oh well.
However... Christopher Walken and Sam Rockwell are also performing on Broadway!
Nice.
Another Iron Man 2 star "treading the boards".

Hope all is well.

Should be interesting to see how this one develops!
Allegedly, a there could be a second outing for her and Sam Rockwell with Kubrick undertones.
(Sounds more than intriguing to me!).
It's such a shame the man himself isn't around today to see the film through to the end.

Hope all is well.

A nice article from The Independent including an interesting review quote from a notoriously hard nosed New York critic about "A View from A Bridge".
Damn I wished I'd seen it.

Hooray and Congratulations to Scarlett Johansson who won a Tony Award yesterday for "Best Featured Performance" in her recent portrayal of Arthur Miller's "A View From The Bridge" in the theatre!
It's got to be tough going out in front of a crowd every night and performing let alone a Broadway crowd.
Still what doesn't kill you makes you stronger.

Weirdly i think she was a much better actress when she was just entering adulthood with the likes of Ghostworld it seems as she's got older she seems to have taken the easy option .

Hey Bohemian,
Hope you're well.
Ha ha.
I do think she's a good actress. I'm sure there are plenty of Super Fans out there however who would put me to shame with their knowledge on her to be honest.
As is the case with any actor or actress they are kind of at the mercy with the quality of the script and the director (ultimately it's his vision) and the editors. The fact that she's now won a BAFTA and a Tony, let alone a slew of other nominations including 4 Golden Globes for different types of roles, surely proves to reflex doubters that she really is certified as a worthy young & experienced actress who has been doing the acting game from a very early age.
The Tony was for a live theatre performance, to me demonstrating all the evidence needed that she can provide the goods on a spontaneous level from performing in front of a crowd. This to me is a true measure of talent.

Hope all is well.
Peace.

She's great in Matchpoint-she simply oozes sex appeal without trying!!
I think she needs better roles that challenge her as an actress, even her latest Allen gig,VCB wasn't much of a stretch for her!
And i will forget Iron Man 2 completely!
Time will tell, and it's definitely on her side, she's kinda where Penelope Cruz was a while back, hopefully it will go better for her.

Lunatic At Large looks promising, if only Dear Ol' Stanley Kubrick was still alive to see it through.
It will be nice to see her playing the lead (if the rumors are true), along side Sam Rockwell. I think they will work well together in the guessing game that is meant to ensue in the plot.
With Jim Thompson (The Killer Inside Me) and Kubrick having co-written it together we can assume "the road gets a little bumpy up ahead".
With a taught script being the seed & heart of a good film, the cake really is for the taking in my opinion on this one. I really hope they give the job of directing it to some one credible & artistic.
Though I must admit I am biased as I love Stanley Kubrick films and was impressed by the recent "The Killer Inside Me" adaptation by Michael Winterbottom.
Lunatic At Large could be a hard boiled classic in the right hands.
Dark, twisted & set with 1956 New York as a backdrop. This is one project I will be looking forward to, if it ever gets made, as I love 50's noir / crime films.
Fingers crossed.

Well, another year another Oscars...
All hail the Bale!
Everyone looking bright eyed & well scrubbed on the Red Carpet.
I think the best gown for me has got to go to either Scarlett Johansson or Natalie Portman.
Sandra Bullock & Anne Hathaway both looked good also.

Did anyone see the Jimmy Kimmel's post-Oscar show with his joke infomercial?
