That's ur opinion and i respect that. I however see things a little differently, i think SJ shows a good range of emotion in Match Point and Black Dahlia also her cockerny accent in Prestige ain't alf bad me old mucker, can't RM do that??

 i have to say even though i'm not amazed by mcadams acting talents either she has way more range,i dont think scarlett johannsen couldve dont mean girls,and done it well.

A lot of people seem to be forgetting Girl With a Pearl Earring which she was very good in aswell.   But her career has hit a real slump for me.  One of her better films recently was a Good Woman mind you i thought the film and other perfromances were better than Scarlett was.

I think she's ugly and a weak actress. In all the the films of hers I've seen [and I haven't seen them all] she mistakes pouting for acting.

Thats harsh. You may not like her as an actress and may not find her attractive but she clearly is not ugly.

Have to agree there, shes puts in consistent performances but nothing that has blown me away yet.

I have to say she is really good looking and alot of my friends (girls) have all said they find her really attractive and the guys seem not to rave about her so much. I have to say she is more talented that other young actresses that are around I mean I'd rather watch Scarlet than Kiera or Jessica Alba - if you ask me in comparison to them Scarlett doesn't really get that much hype considering.

 I think she's gorgeous, and has the potential to develop into a very fine actress. I've been impressed favourably with her performances in Match Point and Scoop, and although I didn't like the film, I thought she was fine in Lost In Translation.
I'm looking forward to seeing what she makes of her role in The Other Boleyn Girl. She's up against some pretty stiff competition there, with the marvellous Natalie Portman and Eric Bana. If she can hold her own with those two, then hopefully she'll prove all the nay - sayers wrong.

My personal urges aside though, I think she is still young and will be around for a long time and can only get better surely?

 I think she's an above average actress, she's just had a few questionable roles.

She's stunning, for the record.

 There's no "Gorgeous and a good actress" option. No one can live up to the hype heaped on them by the media, but she's got the skills.

I was going to mention Ghost World, really love that Film.  It seems early in her career before becoming big she chose some good indie parts, The Man Who Wasn't There Being an good example.  Since becoming big she's really made some poor choices.   The few years are vitel for her, she will either disapear into thin air or get back on track it's her choice.

I disagree about Girl With a Pearl Earring as she did as much with the role as the film allowed.  Her best performance is in Lost in Translation for sure it's a heart breaking film and turn by her.

From what I've seen of her she's a decent, but not great actress and she's not particulary special as far as looks go either. In answer to the question on this month's Empire cover I'd pick Natalie Portman any day over her

I just don't get it really. Sorry.

 I've decided to resurrect this old thread in order to add a supplementary consideration. I've been listening to some of Scarlett's music and I was wondering about people's views on how this plays into the general hype machine. Her album of Tom Waits songs, Anywhere I Lay My Head has got some mixed reviews, including some incredibly positive ones (NME said it was likely to top some best of the year lists). So, do people think she has potential as a singer or is it just another movie star album vanity project a la Keanu Reeves' Dogstar?

As for me. I find that Scarlett is not much of a singer. Anyone who's seen her somewhat reedy version of Brass in Pocket in the karaoke scene in Lost in Translation can tell that. And the album isn't really much to listen to. She does, however, have an extremely sexy speaking voice, so it's kind of ok that she basically speaks rather than sings a lot. Meanwhile, collaborating with the likes of David Bowie on singing Tom Waits songs certainly boosts her cool quotient. Another good movie some time soon wouldn't hurt though.

I like both Page and Lohman but surely they are the very definition of early promise not yet fulfilled. Like Johansson, they have each a couple of strong performances in their young careers but haven't yet had the chance to build up much of a body of work. Page was excellent in Juno but she has to avoid doing the bland likes of Smart People, while Lohman was great in Matchstick Men but that was a while ago now and her career hasn't always been so good. Both have been linked to Sam Raimi's Drag Me To Hell and now that Lohman has signed to it, it could give a chance for her potential to be fulfilled.
