I've decided to resurrect this old thread in order to add a supplementary consideration. I've been listening to some of Scarlett's music and I was wondering about people's views on how this plays into the general hype machine. Her album of Tom Waits songs, Anywhere I Lay My Head has got some mixed reviews, including some incredibly positive ones (NME said it was likely to top some best of the year lists). So, do people think she has potential as a singer or is it just another movie star album vanity project a la Keanu Reeves' Dogstar? As for me. I find that Scarlett is not much of a singer. Anyone who's seen her somewhat reedy version of Brass in Pocket in the karaoke scene in Lost in Translation can tell that. And the album isn't really much to listen to. She does, however, have an extremely sexy speaking voice, so it's kind of ok that she basically speaks rather than sings a lot. Meanwhile, collaborating with the likes of David Bowie on singing Tom Waits songs certainly boosts her cool quotient. Another good movie some time soon wouldn't hurt though.
