I'm depressed that our "best" striker is now Ameobi.
And he's now injured. Is Lovenkrands injured, too? If not, I really don't get why Ranger is getting played ahead of him. At least Lovenkrands can score goals.

Anyhoos, it seems to me that what happened with the transfer saga, that's being carefully omitted from the quotes in the press, is that on hearing he was wanted by Liverpool, Carroll (or more likely, his agent) tried to bargain for more cash, even though he just got a new contract just 3 months ago. Forgive my speculating, but I think there's some player/agent greed going on here that isn't getting talked about.
If Carroll / agent got wind of a potential 80k+ /week  at Liverpool whilst he was on a quarter of that with us, he's probably set his stall out and said "I want to stay, but other teams are valuing me way higher than you. Give me what I'm worth and I'll stay". And the club said "We can't give you that. You'd better stick in a transfer request if you want that sort of money". Bish, bash, bosh.

So the club can come out and say "we didn't ask him to put in a transfer request", "we wanted him to stay". And the player can say "I was basically forced to put in a transfer request", "I wanted to stay". If he truly wanted to stay, if he was loyal to the Toon, he'd have turned Liverpool down. At least we got a chunk of change and wangled a 25% sell-on fee. Now we just need another forward from the acadamy to get good fast......

I was listening to Five Live on transfer deadline day (or maybe the day after) and one of the pundits (can't remember who) got wind earlier this month that Newcastle were offering Carroll to several Premier League clubs. I'm not saying him or his agent are blameless in this, but Newcastle definitely didn't fight to keep him. And it's obvious from Carroll's interview today that it was a very hard decision for him to leave Newcastle. Compare and contrast that with Torres' first interview, where it's plainly obvious that he orchestrated his move and couldn't wait to get out of Liverpool.

I was there yesterday, hadn't been to a Toon match in ten years and WHAT A GAME IT WAS.

Arsenal were incredible in the first half, their movement and fluid passing tore us to shreds and it was essentially a training match.
The sending off changed everything and despite many of our players looking rubbish we managed to do it and the atmosphere was unbelievable. I don't I'll ever see a game like that again, certainly not live. It was an incredible day. There was loads of people who left after 10 minutes! One of my mates left at half time. There was no way I was gonna leave.

I also don't think that Tiote will be playing for us next season!

The way it seems to be shaping up is that Evra will be off from Man Utd to Spain. Enrique has had a good season and you could see Utd wanting him as a replacement.

When did he sign? '07 on a 5 year contract for about 6M?

I can see how you'd want big money for him. Who wouldn't? He's been one of the best this season in his position. But won't him being in the last year of his contract be a problem? On the one hand that may reduce the price. On the other hand, I never understand Article 17 of FIFA for players buying out their contract (or whether anyone would in a high profile case), but I'd say both could potentially limit the amount Newcastle would get for him.

Well according to the Friday rumours on the BBC site, Evra has signed a new 4 year deal with Manu (Guardian) and its Liverpool and AC who are interested in him (Mirror and Mail) with Newcastle apparently saying he's worth 12M (Mail)

If he goes we gotta get Van Ahnholt back to replace IMO.

So Nile Ranger still acts like a bit of a lazy nob then according to Lovenkrands?
Apparantly hes late for Training a lot and doesnt always try hard and messes about.
There were stories of this type re Ranger way back when he played for the under 18s team, aint he learned yet.
I recall seeing Ranger play for the under 18s a few years back and he gave the impression of someone who thought he was better than anyone else on the pitch which in turn gave off the vibe he wasnt well liked by the rest of the lads.

Send him to live with Nolan i say now hes got a spare room.

I've heard a whisper the reason Ranger never gets a full game is they're worried he might steal someone's shirt.

We will get about 2.5 million for Enrique, no more. Consider Ozil was in last year of contract, was younger than Enrique and in a key attacking position and going to Real Madrid, we won't be getting much for Enrique at all.

We will be selling Tiote for about 20million. Only reason he has signed a new contract is so we can get more money for him. I also doubt whether we'll reinvest any of the money we got for Carroll or anyone else. The club has only one ambition: To make more money.

What don't you agree with? I just don't see what we're aiming for as a club anymore. Selling our best player (fair enough we had to) but we're clearly going to sell our 'big names' at the end of the season and there seems to be no ambition to reinvest. My only hope is that the club is sold.

The new home kit was revealed the other day and there is no doubt going to be some controversy over the lack of stripes...

http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/Newcastle-new-home-kit-pictures-Kevin-Nolan-Steve-Harper-2011-2012-season-puma-picture-special-article731736.html

I personally really like it but the majority of people seem to hate it, now I'm scared what people would say if I went to a match wearing one

Great result against Chelsea.

Classic chant when Sammy Ameobi came on :

"theres only 2 Ameobis .... 2 Ameobis ..... theres only 2 Ameobis"

Beat West Brom and with a bit of luck elsewhere we could finish as high as 8th. And more importantly, above s*********. That'll do me.

You've got to be pretty happy with that season overall haven't you?

I think you got rid of a good manager when you didn't need to, but Pardew's been okay. Nothing special, but okay.

The big questions now are whether the club will be sold? And whether it is or is not, will the money from January be available to reinvest?

If you get a new owner and invest should be an easy top half finish again and maybe a nice cup run. However, if you start to sell one or two of the better quality players and the money doesn't go back out on the pitch it could be a fairly miserable '12.

I'd love a new owner but failing that as long as we spend a decent chunk of money on three or four (good) players and hold onto most of the core first teamers (I'll accept Enrique fucking off if we can keep Tiote, Barton, Ben Arfa et al) I'll be reasonably optimistic on improving next season.
But aye, I'm quite happy overall. There's a lot of things I could've done without (sacking Hughton, selling our best striker, getting stuffed in the cup by Stevenage) but what the hell, to come back up and spend most of the season in a reasonably comfortable position is more than I expected this time last year. And witnessing some brilliant performances and a handful of memorable drubbings (to say nothing of the most gobsmacking game of football I've ever witnessed against Arsenal) more than made up for the occasional howlers and general inconsistency.
And Pardew? No complaints. Save one tactical fuck up against Stoke he's done nowt wrong in my eyes. Now if we can just finish above you know who I might even buy that horrible new shirt.

Self quote from back in Sept 2010 (cos I was right! - Had I been wrong, I'd have deleted the post! ):

quote:

ORIGINAL: Gram123
I'll state here and now that I don't think we'll be fighting for survival at the end of the season, as everyone seems to expect (or at least did before and after the loss at Man Utd). We might only end up a couple of places above the relegation battle, but I think we have just about enough decent players and certainly enough drive and determination to see us safe this season.

Seeing as no one else has posted it, our latest signing:

Name: Mehdi Abeid
Age: 18
Signed: 25th May 2011
Contract: 5 yrs
Previous club: RC Lens (France)
Nationality: French
Position: Midfield

Different sources state that he plays on the Right (Wiki), the Left (various), Attacking Central Midfield (NUFC.com, various) just behind the strikers, or Holding Midfield (Sky Sports). So.... dunno exactly!
