I'd rather have given this 0 stars than 1 but anyway.

Quite possibly the dullest film I've ever sat through in my life.  Spartan kills Persian in gore splattered way.  Then again.  And that's essentially it for the entire running time.

The non-fighting scenes are hilariously badly acted and scripted and perhaps the worst failing of all is that, rather than at least looking amazing which is supposedly its main selling point,  I honestly thought it looked as if it had been knocked up in about two hours on a BBC Micro.

I should have stood by my rule of thumb, anything with Gerard Butler in it is shite.

Two hours of shouting. Visually its good, but that does not a good film make. Style over substance, of which there is none. Baffled by its popularity frankly. Sin City was leagues ahead.

Visually truly sublime and I think it deserves an extra star for that alone. I do except however that it has absolutely no substance but hey, everybody needs a bit of mind-numbing escapism every now and again!

An enormously entertaining, wonderfully stupid and in equal measures hilarious, enfuriating, heartbreaking and ridiculously rousing. For anyone wingeing about the lack of substance, what did you expect? A pure piece of pop escapism, and an enormous amount of fun. Sure one can question the obvious racial issues, but why bother when you can cheer at the screen for 2 hours and then forget all about it. Brilliant.

I remember watching the trailer for this and declared "that's my favourite film of all time". Imagine my utter shock when it wasn't brilliant. Obviously for the most part it looks very pretty. However...the treatment is all wrong. This did actually happen and I think the hyper reality stuff doesn't suit the subject - they should of made Troy more like this and this more like Troy. That feels weird saying that. Anyway, superficially it was kinda fun - just very disappointing. Favourite bit: "THHIISSHH. IISS. SSHHPPAARRTTAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Obviously.

This film is unbelievably crap, all this was was men muscly men running, shouting, people killing each other it was absolute crap, It didn't even deserve to go to the cinema or even to be made. The funniest thing has to be that I can't wait for Watchmen that looks amazing but I hope Zack Snyder dosen't make it like this movie

You might actually be shocked to find out that this film is MORE fleshed out than the comic book it's based on. But it sticks VERY closely to Miller's in that it's shallow, childish, questionabley-fascist ...but, oooh, it looks SO shiney and pretty! And Gerald Butler's performance is so good it makes the generally unlikable character he plays actual fun to watch!

A treat for the eyes ...but definately not the brain!

People who are saying this is a bad film, can you please tell me what movies you think have better visuals and action scenes so I can see what makes this movie so crap.

As a guys film this is up there with the greats of Rocky, Predator, etc. But as a film it does come sadly short. In fairness though when the action is this good, who cares about character and substance.
Right from the start this is pure epicness and Spartans are quickly portrayed as the ultimate killing mackines, Leonidas age 4 would be able to kick Spiderman's ass anyday, and the style and look of the film is so brilliant. The middle section is nothing short of spectacular. Hyper kinetic, stylised battle scenes galore this is incredible stuff. Initially I thought the film would be better off without all the mutant warriors but then I realised it would just make it less entertaining and then the film would lose its biggest pro.
As a film its 3 stars, as a lads guilty pleasure its 5, so it rounds off at . . .

On paper this movie has everything, war, love , a quest , a bald guy in a big chair , a hunchback and a man in his underwear loudly exclaiming the obvious (THIS IS SPARTA!) Its a thouroughly enjoyable movie with few shortcomings (It also seemed fitting as my 300th post)

What people don't understand about this film is that the action is part of the story. The action tells the story, its about 300 spartans survivng in battle against a million persians. This film delivered exactly what it promised and delivered it brilliantly. The film is more than what it appears, it will exceed your expectations.

Who needs that much depth when the action and visuals are this good? It is entertaining with stunning visuals and endlessly quotable dialogue. This film solidified Snyder as a genuine auteur of the Action Genre. So much so that two iconic comic adaptations would later be placed in his capable hands (Watchmen & Superman). There will be no glory in Empire's review.

A cinematic folklore. Zack Snyder's bloody adaptation is over-the-top and even offensive to some, but it works. Beautiful visuals, and stunning battles make 300 a simple-minded, but amazing high-octane experience.

Fucking crap, that is. Historic films for the Jason Statham generation, I fully expected them to jump into souped up vee-hicles, Fast & Furious style, you know...all in slow motion and tings. You get meeeee. I've yet to see Gerald (should be a) Butler in a decent film, coincidence? Utter bollocks.

300 is Zack Snyder's second Masterpice (the first is definetly Watchmen). He, Kurt Johnstad Michael Gordon carry the famous graphic novel of Frank Miller in the greatest perfection, and how Snyder directs is impressive.
Such as the comic, 300 mixes a bit of history, action, sex and exelent characters. Transporting it from comic to screen could only have been the author himself, but that's where Snyder proves that even knows how to write screenplays (with help, of course) and it was with this film that Snyder was so recognized. The story itself I found very good, portrays the war of Thermopylae in a way so hardcore-badass. I can say that everything in the movie is BADASS, the screenplay is fantastic and gave us one of the most striking phrases of all time, "THIS IS SPARTA!". Speaking of which, the Spartans in the film are all badasses, the mens, the womens, even the kids. The scenes and scenery are fantastic, everything takes place behind a green screen, but are so AWESOME. The soundtrack is Badass, fits in every scene, some are dramatic way, but others are for action.
The cast, also is badass, Gerard Butler give a great (and badass) performance as King Leonidas; Michael Fassbender is also a total hardcore badass; Rodrigo Santoro also gives a great performance as King Xerxes, pitty that was not his real voice we hear in the film.
Two words defines "300" to me, HARDCORE-BADASS!
