I can't really see Perlman in the role. It kinda needs a charismatic scumbag. If he was a bit beefier and a little older, George Clooney would be perfect.

Ron's 57, so any older might be a bit dangerous.

If charisma is simply a wobbly head and loud monotonic foghorm cakehole, then yeah he's charismatic.

Kirk Russell would be a great comedian. William H Macy for Rorschach!

Lee Evans would make an amazing Rorschach - he'd have to get ripped, and it'd be an awesome acting challenge, but he's got the look! Dennis Farina has the face, but too old now - Perlman not sure about though.

Lee Evans as Rorschach? Are you fucking tripping?
Steve Buscemi wou;d be my ultimate choice for him, right age, and there's no one better a playing weirdos. Plus any film's worth is increased by at least 30% through the inclusion of Buscemi in the cast.

not really,

WH Macy as Rorscharch - not a bad idea. Or Steve Buscemi. But not Bobcat Goldthwaite.

Who for Doc Manhattan?

You are out of your mind about Evans. Aside from a very, very slight resemblance (i.e. he has short curlyish hair and is about the same build) there is nothing to suggest he could do this role.

Dennis Farina was the first person I thought of for Comedian when I read the comic. Although if he didn't have a 'tache I would never have considered him.

Perlman would be ok. Gibson or Russell would be better.

Doc Manhattan has to be CGI. Otherwise you could just get one of these guys
[image]http://www.blogwaybaby.com/Blue%20Man%20Group.jpg[/image]
Paddy Considine would be good but I think he might be a little young. Rorschach is supposed to be in his mid to late forties if memory serves. It could be done though.
Macy is perfect for the part and Buscemi would be excellent too.
Cusack would be good for Night Owl but they need to get the ages right. The Watchmen are all roughly the same age so if the ages all seem a little random then it would be a bit weird. Again, not insurmountable.
Cruise might have been good as Ozymandias. He was excellent as part of an ensemble in Magnolia so I think he could have done something good here.
Jude Law seems to be mentioned a lot for the part but I think he is definitely too young and maybe doesn't bring enough gravitas to the role. 10-15 years ago Michael Douglas might have been good for the part. Maybe Ralph Fiennes if he could be more gregarious and appealing in the role as opposed to the more introverted characters he tends to play.

We could speculate ad infinatum about casting, and I certainly have my own ideas about who I think would be great in particular roles. But I think speculating about it all is a bit redundant really... They will cast who they will cast, people will rave and people will complain, and all it will amount to is a huge waste of typing!

Snyder seems to have a real passion for the project and an obvious flair for realising Alan Moore's work in a way which does its originator justice. I re-read Watchmen last year and was as impressed by it then as I was when I first read it about 15 years ago. I only wonder which aspects of the book will get the inevitable snip, causing fanboys the usual outraged online rants and pledges to boycott the film...

That's a lovely welcome, Wilbert. Cheers. As it is, I wasn't telling anyone how the forum should be run, nor would I presume to do so. I was simply expressing an opinion about (fun but pointless) speculation. Surely that's permissable, or is there a minimum post count I must achieve in order to qualify to not be sneered at?

It was a joke, Rickyboy.

You are going to need much thicker skin than that around here.

Bollocks!  It's a sponsored links site.

Totally agree that WH Macy or Buscemi could play Rorschach.  For Doc Manhattan, how about Denzel Washington?  Not so much looks, although obviously he'd have a shaved head and be painted blue, but more presence and age.
What about Laurie and her mother?  Who'd play them?  Jessica Biel & Geena Davis?

NELLYFURTADO,Did you read the interview? It's comprehensive compared to the supposedly exclusive empire version. Sponsored links
site?, what do you think youre on now you twat. The link was meant to be informative, not make you buy something, are you such a weak willed cretin that any sniff of an ad stops you reading? nonce.

Evil Bstd you naysay Watchmen, give us an example of a book that you've read that isn't overrated, and maybe we will understand your comment in context.

It may not read as a joke but it was meant as one. If that doesn't satisfy you, then I won't lose any sleep over it.

I can understand you thinking it was over-rated. Anything that is held in this high regard is going to disappoint some people. Do you really think it is a piece of shit, though?
You really think its that bad?

I really found the book boring it took me several attempts to get through it as i put it down and couldnt be bothered to pick it up again, i found the whole golden age look under whelming and really didnt care what happened to the characters.

bstd, you're coming across as bit hard of learning. There is no "golden age look"in Watchmen, just great line work from Dave Gibbons, maybe you're referring to the Black Freighter pirate section, who knows? And if you didn't finish reading it, you're hardly qualified to judge.
