Yeah, it's pretty good.  They'd never get away with it in the UK.  Presumably, they have less Health and Safety rules in Japan?

I believe it's used in place of community service in Japan - "I sentence you to 13 episodes of Takeshi's Castle.", "oh, guv" etc. (that's how they talk in Japan)

It's great fun, some of it is fucking hilarious, especially stepping stones and those giant rollers! Also Craig Charles makes me laugh because he doesn't have a clue whats going on! Has anyone ever actually won it?

This is fantastic post pub TV. It's funny enough when your sober. With a few beers it's the funniest thing ever.

I saw someone win it once.

I love this programme, it's ace!  Anyone ever see the international version?  It lost a lot of its innocent charm...

Takeshi's Castle is hilarious. For me the best games are Skipping Stones, High Rollers, Gauntlet and the one where they're on surf boards and have to jump over the whales and Pocahontas is stood on the platform ready to push them in, i've forgotten what its called

Amazing that Takeshi Kitano (for it is he) went on to make some of the best films to come out of Japan in recent years.  Then again, he also made Getting Any? so maybe it's not that surprising after all

I love this show, I've watched it religiously the last few weeks. Skipping Stones and the High Rollers are superb. Bridge Ball is my favourite, never has physical pain been so funny.

Shame they got rid of the Gauntlet though!

I love Craig Charles' narration - "New ribs please"

Has anyone ever seen the game where they have to try and paint a symbol on a very wet slope with a giant paintbrush, its hilarious!! As already said, there's no way you could do that in this country because of all this human rights! And someone mentioned the 'international' version. I've seen it and its crap! You just can't beat a little japanese guy or woman (some of them quite nice too) running out of nowhere acting like it's christmas, and shouting something in Japansese which means absolutely nothing to me apart from making it that much funnier

Me too, i couldnt believe it when they did, its hilarious that the contestants are willing to go through so much for nothing, and even if you win i dont think there is any prize... mega laugh out loud entertainment

I saw Avalanche!! Everytime one of the contestants tried to get into one of the gaps in the wall, and the Emerald Guards kept pushing them out right in front of the boulder!  I had no idea it was made in the 80's though.

I never realised that someone had won it, I think i'll go have a wee look on youtube. But it is a great tv show, bags of fun.

I saw a Clive James in Japan documentary last year....it was filmed in the mid 80's and he took part in Takeshis Castle.

In other words, the series is at least 20 years old - its dated very well having said that..
