There might be an old thread for this somewhere but if there is I couldn't find it....

Nathan Fillion, aka Mal Reynolds from Firefly and a recent flashback cameo in Lost, has a new mid-season show starting on Fox on April 15th.

Drive is described on the show website (http://www.fox.com/drive/) as follows:
The next time you’re cut off by crazed drivers on your way to work, give them a little slack. They could be racing for their lives.
DRIVE is an action-fueled drama following a diverse group of Americans competing for their lives (or the lives of their loved ones) in an illegal, underground cross-country road race. Some of them have been coerced into joining “The Race”; others have sought out The Race themselves, hearing rumors of the $32-million prize. Each has a reason to compete. And each must win.
ALEX TULLY (Nathan Fillion, “Firefly,” “Slither”) is thrust into The Race in an effort to find his missing wife. New mother WENDY PATRAKAS (Melanie Lynskey) is on the run from her husband and competing for the safety of her newborn baby – or possibly something much more extraordinary. JOHN TRIMBLE (Dylan Baker) is a buttoned-down scientist who embraces The Race as the last chance to show his rebellious 15-year-old daughter VIOLET (Emma Stone) that he can be spontaneous. WINSTON SALAZAR (Kevin Alejandro) views The Race as an opportunity to leave his criminal past behind and bond with SEAN (J.D. Pardo), the half-brother he has only just met. Hurricane Katrina survivors IVY CHITTY (Taryn Manning, “Hustle & Flow”), LEIGH BARNTHOUSE (Rochelle Aytes) and SUSAN CHAMBLEE (Michael Hyatt) are determined to start their lives over and help rebuild their fallen city with The Race’s winnings. ELLIE HOWE (Mircea Monroe) sees The Race as an opportunity to keep her boyfriend, military specialist ROB LAIRD (Riley Smith), from being sent back to Iraq. And CORINNA WILES (Kristin Lehman), who becomes an uneasy partner with Alex, is a gorgeous and mysterious stowaway who may well hold the key to the secrets of “The Race” and its mysterious benefactors.
Although MR. BRIGHT (Charles Martin Smith), The Race liaison, has informed them that there are other competitors, the group does not know exactly whom they’re racing against, or even where the finish line is. With each mile clocked, the drivers get closer – not only to the end of the road and a critical, life-changing victory, but to understanding the mystery behind The Race itself.

It sounds a bit bobbins to me, but its got Nathan Fillion in it and its produced by Tim Minnear, who worked on Firefly, so I'm reserving judgement.

Not being a downloader I'll have to wait and see if Sky, Bravo or someone else picks this one up.  If anyone does catch it on the torrents then let us know what its like...

Oh, and there's a trailer available here http://www.fox.com/video/index.htm?cat_id=drive

A BIT Bobbins!?

Looks like Cannonball Run without the laughs.  Still, if The Fillion is in it, I'll try it.

Actually I think it sounds quite good. And not just because of Fillion and Minnear, both of which I have huge respect for

Gotta agree, this sounds absolute shite, BUT with Nathan Fillion and Tim Minnear I'll give it a shot.

Looks far too high concept and can't see it lasting beyond one season, and not just because it will be cancelled. Still I'll give it a try though.

Just found a couple of reviews for the pilot- http://www.tvsquad.com/2007/03/26/drive-an-early-look/ and http://thetvaddict.com/2007/03/26/thetvaddict-preview-drive-revs-our-engine/#more-1623 .  They're both very positive, which is good.  With Tim Minear and Nathan Fillion, I really wanted it to be  good, but I just wasn't sure.  Thankfully, it seems it is.  Sweet.

It sounds good fun, but I'm realy wandering how the hell they can make it last as a series

Well, there'll probably be enough to keep it going for a couple of seasons begfore a format change or something.

But then again, it's a Tim Minear show, so it'll probably only last about seven episodes, especially as the show will be going up against Heroes (I think.)  Damn my cynicism- I really want a great new show, seeing as a lot of the others are dying out, but I do think this'll probably be cancelled.

This show looks kinda gay to me.  And it hurts me to say it, but what I saw from the preview, Nathan Fillion is a bad actor.  Seems like he can't play anyone else besides Mal.

Why would we want anything other than playing Mal, he does it fine in Slither

Well the part was originally written for him, or at least he was the first choice for the role- it's Tim Minear, he Knows what Nathan Fillion does well and he's playing to his strengths.  And, frankly, even if it is just a schtick, I don't think it's a schtick that'll ever get old.

Oh, and kinda gay?  Is that really the only response you could come up with?

I saw the original pilot of this, and it was average at best. However, that averageness was entirely down to the lead character being played by one of the worst actors I've ever seen, apparantly some bloke from Charmed  who redefined the terms 'uncharismatic' and 'wooden'. His role is the one that Fillion replaces in the reshot pilot episode. I've not seen that yet (hopefully in the next couple of days, fingers crossed) but doubtless it will be better - but I'm not convinced even with the mighty Mal Reynolds if it'll be something worth setting the Sky+ for. Although it does co-star Alan Ruck who's always worth watching.

Also my thought when I saw the cast line-up before Fillion joined. But Ruck only seems to have been in the binned, unaired pilot - he isn't showing in it anymore, unfortunately.

Really? That's a bonkers thing to do, he was one of the plus points of the whole thing.

So what if I am?  At least I have a reason to be bitching about meaningless shit on the internet.  Why don't you go get a job or a girlfriend since you're so much more mature.

I have both thankyou, plus the ability to come up with a review based on facts. Maybe something about the story, overall acting, possibility of character development etc. Something a bit more than "this show looks kinda gay to me", after that and the Oscar Wilde like double put down suggesting I haven't got a girlfriend or a job I'm fully expecting to be told I'm ugly and smell

It can't go up against Heroes, 24 fills that slot on Fox, it's likely that after the pilot, It'll air in Prison Breaks slot before 24, which means its up against Dancing With the Stars, How I met Your Mother/New Adventures of Old Christine, Everybody Hates Chris/All of Us and Deal or No Deal.

You know it's theorically impossible to write a review based on facts.  Everything you've listed can only be judged subjectively, which is not fact.

Hell I can say something like Citizen Kane's story sucked, or Robert DeNiro's acting was horrible in Raging Bull, ect; and you can't say those aren't facts because it's just a review all reviews are subjective.  Even the more popular reviews saying Citizen Kane has a fantastic storyline or Raging Bull had great acting is just as opinion as my previous statement.

So when I say "this show looks kinda gay to me" it's just my first impression, it's no less true than your review will be because they're both by definition: opinions.  "This show looks kinda gay to me isn't even my review, I haven't seen the show yet.  Maybe it'll blow my mind, who knows?  But nothing you or I say can be labeled as fact when writing our reviews.
