Foxy's already in the recommended section, so unless everyone wants to rank the sites, then I'll just leave it be!

I used Play Asia for the first time recently and was very pleased with quick delivery - quicker than DVDFromKorea, YesAsia, and HKFlix.

I would add a minus for Foxy, purely for their communication. The prices, availability and delivery are all fine, but in my experience they are horrendously bad at responding to emails.

Also minus 1 for BlahDVD - I've made a number of purchases from them, but most were left in "Awaiting stock" status for several weeks.

Having found DVD Price Check to be a little lacking in the number of stores searched, I went looking for some more price comparison sites.
I came up with the following sites.

R2
  • http://www.cdanddvdbargains.com/

    R1
  • http://www.bargainflix.com/

    R4
  • http://www.dvdplaza.com.au/pricecrawler/

    Multi
  • http://www.dvdbrain.co.uk/

I've also added these to the opening post in this thread.

Added the following to the 1st post in this thread:

  • 4CheapCDs (good prices keep coming up on price comparison websites)
  • BangCD (music DVDs only)
  • DVDsLimited (after seeing people here give positive reviews)
  • uWish (after my own very positive experience with them)

Updates to 1st post in this thread:

  • Added the R4 site DeVoteD DVD, as they seem to come up cheapest in almost all R4 price comparisons, and have cheaper delivery than some.

  • Re-organised the non-R2 DVD sites into more specific regions, to make it easier to locate the region you're after. So for example the recommended R1s are separate from the recommended R4s etc.

    Hi

Quite surprised to see SelectCheaper given a hard time, i have used them 3 times and each time the DVD arrived in around 4 days, which is good for me from Guernsey.
Used Find-dvd.co.uk and they were the cheapest for the DVDs i bought so please with them. Also got email updates.
bought these in the last few months so not sure if they have improved their stock situation
So i give them a thumbs up

On the other hand i have used foxy and my CSI boxset did not arrive after 6 weeks, so i emailed them, eventually got a reply saying not in stock as it said on their website and had to chase for a refund also. So i give them a thumbs down.

  • Added DVDigitall - a Moscow-based sister company to Canada-based Region 5 site AllDVD.
  • Moved Sensasian down to "Awaiting Rating" section after my own poor experience with them.
  • Noted Rob461's ratings.

Virginmegastores.co.uk what a pile of shit. I give it -5

I've been trying to put an order in all day, it either says my credit card is wrong, error page comes up, nothing has been added to my basket etc.

I've never had a problem with any of the other sites listed before.

    Ps
Gram123 - you know any sites that list cheap video games? Like hdanddvdbargains.com but for video games only. Cheers.

Not really my area, but I know that if you use Find-DVD  (http://www.find-dvd.co.uk), you can select "Games" from the menu at the top, and compare prices the same as you would with DVDs.
When I was searching in this manner for xmas pressies for our kid, one store that came top of the list quite a lot (i.e. was frequently the cheapest) was http://www.softuk.com/. However, the prices weren't amazing, just marginally better than your HMVs and such.

I placed an order, got the "Thank you for your order" page, yet didn't seem to get an email by them about the order. I think I might give them a call Monday.

Hey Gram. I remember a few months ago a few forumites complaining about CDWOW's long delivery times and general poor service, I can't remember exactly but I think someone said it was due to some legal difficulties they were having or something - anyway, my question is do you know if CDWOW has sorted itself out back to normal? It's the only British site that sells Criterions and I'd love to avoid risking customs by ordering from them.

Yeah, as far as I understand it....
There was an issue with CDWow selling CDs in the UK that were under a month old and only licensed for sale in East Asia, which infringed copyright laws. They promised to stop it, but then carried on, so they got into a bit of trouble and had to pay a big fine (£41 million).
I guess after such a hit they were forced to sell the company, and they were taken over by new management, an Australian company called Stomp HK Ltd. Their head office is in Hong Kong, but the UK site operates out of Beaconsfield, Bucks.

Personally, I haven't used them since before the takeover, but I understand the delivery times have improved.

CDWow isn't the only UK based site selling Region 1 DVDs (and therefore Criterions). If you have a look at the first post in this thread there are a few others listed, under "Recommended for Region 1 DVDs" and "R1 sites awaiting + / - ratings", namely:

  • DVD Concept
  •  DVDsLimited
  • Loaded247
  • Store4DVD
  • Enterprises DVD

Of these, I have only used Loaded247 before, and they were fine, but more expensive than CDWow.
There are also a couple of others within the EU, from who you are unlikely to be charged import duties (though this isn't an absolute guarantee, as I'm sure the sites' terms and conditions will tell you). These are AxelMusic (Denmark) and Sazuma (Austria). There are bound to be plenty of others too, but these two sites in particular are in English...

    Hope this helps!

Now, this won't be for everyone, as I'm sure many people are perfectly happy with their UK / US releases, but for the more adventurous of us (i.e. those who don't mind shopping with a translation website like Babel Fish open at the same time), where do you buy your European imports?

Sometimes DVDs from other European countries have different versions, or at least different packaging on their DVDs, which may be of interest to some. For example, a number of German DVDs are released in steelbook versions.

I thought I'd google around for online DVD stores in Europe to add to the list on page 1 of this thread. I found it surprisingly awkward to find anything like a directory of such sites, particularly with recommendations, if I searched in English - i.e. there ain't many English language websites detailing foreign DVD stores.

So, please reply here if you have any suggestions for decent, trusted websites in European countries.

Personally, I've only used Amazon.de (Germany) for things like the 2 disc version of "The Fountain" in its sexy lenticular case, and "Leon Der Profi", the extended edition of Leon in a steelbook; and Amazon.fr (France), both of which are fine, of course.

Sazuma (Austria) is already listed on page 1, as they're importers of East Asian DVDs and are apparently pretty good, and AxelMusic (Denmark), who sell multi region discs.

I've found a few others, though I've yet to analyse to see if they all ship to overseas addresses, and I don't know how good these are:

Opinions welcome on any of the above, and any alternate recommendations gratefully accepted!

I've been buying a lot of stuff from DVD Pacific recently (R1).
They have an excellent range of product at good prices, which they will quote in whatever currency you wish (In my case, NZ$), and the service so far has been excellent. In most cases my DVDs have been delivered within ten days of shipment from America.
DVD Planet is also pretty good.

The simple answer is no, there isn't really one site above all others that stocks this kind of stuff, at least not that I'm aware of.
However, if you go to any site and enter "Limited Edition" or "Ultimate Edition" or whatever, in quotes, in the search box, you will often find a whole load of stuff.

For example, I did exactly this on Amazon at this link and it brought back 10+ pages of stuff. Some of it is only available from Marketplace sellers, but I guess with any limited rare stuff, this may be the answer anyway.

Off the top of my head, the only site I can think of where there is a simpler way to do this is DVDFromKorea - they have a button on the left hand side entitled Special Package, which links you directly to their LE's.

I notice that Foxy, in a rather unusual move, has changed from being a DVD retailer, to being a price comparison site.
I've moved them to the appropriate section on the first post in this thread.

I did a quick comparison between the new-look Foxy and Find-DVD. I performed a price comparison for the standard DVD release of Ong Bak.

    Foxy returned 17 results to Find-DVD's 25.
However, Foxy did list additional information about the product - an eBay listings link for Ong Bak, a review, Amazon customer reviews, a list of the disc's special features, links to other films featuring the same personnel, technical spec, where the film came in the DVD chart etc
Depending what you want, this is either handy additional info, or overkill.

In my experience, Find-DVD is still pretty much the best UK / R2 price comparison site, and like Foxy, it can also be used to search for CDs, games and books.

However, it is wise not to be complacent and assume one particular price comp site is doing the best job, so it's worth occasionally checking some of the others, and Foxy seems pretty decent. See post 1 in this thread for several further alternatives.

ok, since it was mentioned elswhere, i'll give a great thumbs up to -

    Yeasasia

worth noting that due to their shipping method you avoid customs charges on their orders!

thumbs down for Zavvi, poor website and I was one of them who bought some of their recent cheap Dr Who (I know, I'll get my anorak..) DVD's that were in terrible condition.
