It's effects were brilliant for it's day and are still fairly convincing.  Why doesn't Britain make these kind of films still?

Because Christian Rivers and WETA are going to remake them for us.

Oh yes, my young Padawan. Peter Jackson will be producing but WETA is doing all the effects work and Rivers is directing in his feature film debut.

You're just a fountain of knowledge, aren't you Timon?  I'm amazed.

Incidently, I've been to that dam.   On a German exchange school fieldtrip.  It's fixed now.

Speaking of flyboys, avoid the eponymous movie like the plague - it's complete shit.  There's a good movie to be made of the story of the Lafayette Espadrille, but this definitely isn't it.

I normally trust your opinion Sharky, but I really want to see this film. I just can't believe it's THAT bad.

Hmm, I think I'll try and see Flyboys, for the FX and dogfights, if nothing else.

Hey Wedge, when you watch Tuskegee Airmen let me know what you think.

Remember it's a HBO made for TV movie and not a blockbuster.

Will do.  Not sure when it will come mind.  I ordered it about a week ago now but it's coming from the states, so could take weeks.  Looking forward to it, HBO usually make quality TV and it has a great cast.

It arrived over the weekend   Unfortunately, I've been unable to watch it yet!   I'll check it out tonight.  Thankfully, my region hackal seems to be working.

Hmm, what this about The Red Baron....

Hmm, what this about The Red Baron....

A German film according to imdb.com

Europe, 1916: Celebrated fighter pilot Manfred von Richthofen and his pilot buddies become icons of the average soldier. His red Fokker DR-I is a feared and famous symbol. The woman he loves (Lena Headey) opens his eyes to the reality of war. He is abused for propaganda purposes and decides to withdraw – with fatal consequences... A great plot for a war movie, produced by a German crew. German war movies are some of the finest and most accurate in the world: »Das Boot, Downfall« and »Stalingrad« are great examples for film-making without Disneyland style as seen in »Pearl Harbour«.

Lena Headey eh? I'm there.

I'm sure it was...................bastard!

So what are they planning next? A sci-fi saga? Period drama? Did you suggest a fighter pilot film?

Spill the beans Wedgey.

He was tight lipped about that I'm afraid.    You'll be able to share the experience soon because Empire were filming and photography the event.

Apparently, the studio was suggesting Mr Wright included Jack Black as an FBI agent in Hot Fuzz.

Lots of cool stuff there.  We played on PS3's in the breaks, and had free food and booze.  Joe Cornish was there too!!  I got my Spaced boxset signed!!!  We got to see the outtakes for Hot Fuzzand witnessed Timothy Dalton shout 'mother fuck it!'.     Two of my questions were answered.

Cracking news!    I've seen Tuskegee Airmen now, btw, and thought it was very good stuff.  Lacking on the special effects and the combat scenes though.  On the other hand, they made very good use of archive footage to fill in the gaps.

For some reason, I really like the use of the achive footage put into the battle scenes.

The bit where Hannibal strafes the destroyer and it blows up is incredible. Almost ludicrous but that's actual footage and if it was done with CGI or models, you'd think it was insane that a destroyer would blow apart like that. (Although there are threads on IMDB that doubt the validity of that footage)

Expect more FX then you can shake a stick at when George Lucas starts work on 'Red Tails'.

Still an amazing fact though - they never lost ONE bomber to enemy action. Simply astounding, especially when bomber losses were so high during sortees over Germany.
